When he was in high school, Charley Mahler witnessed a near tragedy from the back seat of a car full of kids. He still can see the events unfold in his mind, and it's the thought that a friend could have died because of the careless handling of a gun that led him to say yes when asked more than 40 years ago if he'd teach hunter education classes to area youth. |

Politics in the exam room? A new study suggests patient care may vary depending on whether the doctor is a Democrat or a Republican at least when it comes to some hot-button health issues like firearm safety. Health care has long drawn partisan political fights, like state laws surrounding abortion, or Floridas law restricting doctors from discussing guns with patients. But theres been little research on the doctor-patient side of those controversies. Can physicians leave their own political ideology at the door during something as simple as a checkup? |

Question 3 is backed by anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloombergs Everytown for Gun Safety and its clones. |

At this Sundays town-hall style presidential debate the public is able to vote for their favorite questions. The ABC News and CNN moderators plan on using the 30 questions that receive the most votes. Largely because of efforts by gun control organizations, the current top two questions are both on gun control. The first is, Would you support requiring criminal background checks for all gun sales? and the second is, "How will you ensure the 2nd amendment is protected? |

We arent enthused about what appears to be an accelerating ride off into the sunset. The pony in question is technology, and the rider, the not-so-venerable .40 S&W. Light bullets or heavy, .40 S&W is suited to many tasks. We hope our gloom is premature, tinged with guilt as it is. As early adopters of the 10 mm, we concede the appearance of the .40 Short and Weak (as it was often derided in the early 90s) evoked no enthusiasm. We were not, shall we say, subdued in offering that opinion, either. |

When Alfred Olango pulled out an object from his right pocket last month and assumed a shooting stance in a strip mall parking lot in a San Diego suburb, one officer opened fire with his pistol. The other officer simultaneously stunned Olango using his Taser. Civil rights advocates say the different response by officers facing the same suspect illustrates a breakdown in police training and communication and shows that some officers are too quick to turn to deadly force.

In expressing his opposition to an assault weapons ban, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stresses that Americans should be able to own the firearm of their choice. Under a Trump administration, that means individual Americans should have the freedom to own the gun they are most comfortable with using for self-defense, whether a revolver, a semi-automatic handgun, a shotgun, or an AR-15 or AK-47. |
