Specifically, Legislative Referendum 130 asks voters to remove local governments power to regulate the carrying of concealed firearms or to restrict the open carry of firearms except in public buildings within a governments jurisdiction.

The measure, if approved, also would repeal local governments authority to prevent the possession of firearms by convicted felons, minors, undocumented immigrants and or people judged to be mentally incompetent. The measure doesnt affect other federal or state firearms restrictions about such possession.

For many, Austin writes, God and guns are like hot dogs and apple pie. They are part of what is means to be an American and even an American Christian.

Having acknowledged this position is common, Austin challenges its validity. The problem is that this combination of faith and firearms is often accepted for dubious reasons and can lead to disastrous consequences.

To be sure, Austin acknowledges there are legitimate and orderly uses for firearms. But outside of hunting and sport shooting, almost every other use of firearms can be labeled a tragedy.

The Michigan 2A for Sanctuary Counties Facebook group launched last year, before the emergency orders, as a way to organize support for local resolutions to declare counties sanctuaries for the Second Amendment.

"When we have the people standing up and representing what they want for their values, good things happen, said Jeff Fuss, who was a founder of the page, and spoke to Michigan Radio about it earlier this year.

Attorney General Derek Schmidt is fighting for Americans to be able to keep their Second Amendment rights.

Attorney General Derek Schmidt says a federal appellate court panel erred by upholding New Jerseys ban on magazines that hold over 10 rounds of ammunition.

According to Schmidt, on Sept. 1, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit upheld a New Jersey law criminalizing the possession of a magazine that carries over 10 rounds. He said he joined 17 other state attorneys general in looking for a rehearing by the entire appellate court.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who this week escaped an alleged militia-backed kidnapping plot when federal and state officials arrested and charged 13 men, says such groups are domestic terrorists.

State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey says militias are "getting a bad rap," and composed of people "not uniquely different" from you and me. "They have a real purpose, and I think a sincere purpose," Shirkey, R-Clarklake, said in a May TV interview, months before Thursday's charges.

Earlier this year, protesters stormed the Michigan state capitol to rally against Whitmer's stay at home order. Many of them heavily armed. In September, a board that oversees Michigans Capitol put off making a final decision about whether to ban guns there.

Shortly after the protests in Lansing, Michigan State Senator Dayna Polehanki (D) introduced a resolution to prohibit guns in the state Capitol.

On the other hand, I think, and I would say, Im 66 years old, when I was growing up as a teenager in Compton, California, we started to see guns in the hands of some of the more unstable elements in our community and we had deaths. When I was a senior in high school, I remember I couldnt go to parties for a certain period of time because there had been people killed at parties.

Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old accused in the fatal shootings of two protesters during demonstrations in Kenosha, Wis., has become a cause clbre for conservatives who insist he acted in self-defense. Hundreds of thousands of dollars from strangers have poured into his legal fund. And on Friday, his lawyer successfully delayed a typically routine extradition from his home state of Illinois, arguing that Mr. Rittenhouse should remain in a facility there for his own safety rather than be transferred to Wisconsin where he is to face charges in the deaths.

President Trumps nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court will be hard for Senate Democrats to oppose based upon her qualifications.

Judge Barretts extraordinary life as a distinguished law professor, as a highly regarded appellate judge, and as a woman who will become the first Supreme Court justice with school-age children makes her a difficult target.

The 48-year-old Barrett grew up in Metairie, Louisiana, attending a Catholic girls high school in New Orleans. She graduated magna cum laude from Rhodes College, a small liberal arts college in Tennessee.

For Americans like financial adviser David Powell, the greatest worry is that they could be forced to take sides to protect civil rights, private property and even lives.

"I'm not part of any group, don't want to be part of a group, I'm your regular guy who is watching the news and is getting really concerned," said Powell, 64, of Raleigh, North Carolina. He said he worries about "antifa thugs", a term US conservatives use to describe left-wing anti-fascist activists. He said he is prepared to "stand guard" in his community, if necessary.

It is my firm belief, after several high profile, and some not-so-high-profile examples in recent years, that a part of our Second Amendment family is in need of aid.

The Second Amendment Family Member Who Needs Aid is the Law-abiding Black Gun Owner.
In choosing to write about this subject, I recognize I am entering dangerous waters.

Issues of race and police-involved shootings have permeated the national conversation for many years now. And, like everything from Chick-Fil-A to COVID-19, people seem to divide up quickly into two camps when it comes to this subject.

About two years after Maryland instituted its extreme risk protective order law that can take away guns from those deemed to be a threat to themselves or others, Carroll County has used the law among the most per capita in the state, according to a Times data analysis.

The law, commonly known as a red flag law in a term discouraged by mental health advocates, was passed after 17 people were killed and another 17 were wounded at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in 2018.

We have argued for more safeguards to prevent gun violence.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 39,740 firearm-related deaths in 2018 or about 109 deaths every day. Six out of 10 were suicides, the CDC found, while 3 out of 10 were homicides.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
For, in principle, there is no difference between a law prohibiting the wearing of concealed arms, and a law forbidding the wearing such as are exposed; and if the former be unconstitutional, the latter must be so likewise. But it should not be forgotten, that it is not only a part of the right that is secured by the constitution; it is the right entire and complete, as it existed at the adoption of the constitution; and if any portion of that right be impaired, immaterial how small the part may be, and immaterial the order of time at which it be done, it is equally forbidden by the constitution. [Bliss vs. Commonwealth, 12 Ky. (2 Litt.) 90, at 92, and 93, 13 Am. Dec. 251 (1822)
