Yet another uneducated group of anti's displaying their lack of knowledge while using the recent Maryland/Virginia murders as an excuse to pass more gun control laws. In this report they are attempting to describe the difference between a military rifle and a hunting rifle and then tell us why the military "sniper" rifle should not be sold to the public. Will these folks ever get tired of looking foolish? ------- "Several Democratic lawmakers on Thursday urged the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the marketing of military sniper rifles to civilians, noting that such a weapon may be involved in the recent Washington area shootings."
"Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, the top Democrat on the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, and three fellow House Democrats wrote in a letter to the FTC that sniper weapons are different from standard hunting rifles because they are designed to strike a target from a distance." ------- Tell that to the elk hunter who bags one every year at 500 yards, Mr. Lying Sack of Michigan. |

"Privacy for the mentally ill is more important than the publics right to protection from the potential dangers of mentally ill gun owners, says the president of the National Mental Health Association."
"Michael Faenza tells Steve Kroft that, despite a 1968 law prohibiting firearms sales to people who have been involuntarily committed, using medical records as a red flag denies an already stigmatized group their right to privacy. Krofts report for 60 Minutes will be broadcast Sunday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. ET/PT." ...
" 'If we want to be serious about hand guns, targeting people with mental illness is not the place to start,' [president of the National Mental Health Association Michael Faenza] tells [60 Minutes' Steve] Kroft, pointing out that other factors, such as being sexually or physically abused or having alcohol problems, represent a greater risk to do violence."
OR MAYBE...
While CBS News is asking if "mentally ill" people "should buy guns," perhaps it's time to inquire as to whether or not mentally ill people should have such unfettered access to the public airwaves. |

Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
"Arming pilots in an effort to keep aircraft safe was a cowboy idea that conjured a cowboy image: A muscular pilot with a military background strapping on a holster and guarding his plane with his pistol."
"It seemed simple enough."
"Favoring the proposal, Georgia's own Sen. Zell Miller framed his argument in a way designed to elicit an emotional response: Would you rather have an armed pilot, or an F-16 shooting down a commercial aircraft if someone tried to hijack it?"
"Otherwise reasonable members of Congress lost their heads and voted for the measure, which is now in a conference committee."
"It should die there." ... ------- What follow are numerous "reasons" to favor shooting planes out of the sky over letting a pilot perform his final duty at the cockpit door if necessary. Perhaps the most amusing is this one:"In addition, a system would have to be created for keeping track of the guns, and special lockboxes would have to be provided for pilots to carry the guns around (guns can't be left on the airplanes, after all)." AJC's Thinkers envision pilots carrying lethal weapons around in locked boxes, their firearms inaccessible, assuring that enterprising thieves would only have to get through pilots' fists to steal them. But they are okay with air marshals carrying concealed firearms without ever being identified to all but a minority, while every pilot carries something of high street value that poses no more immediate risk to a criminal than a briefcase would -- and that could be criminally misused by violent people in the nearby community.
And this, in their "logical" analysis, passes for reason. |
