"Acting on behalf of a Georgia resident and honorably discharged Vietnam War veteran, the Second Amendment Foundation today filed a lawsuit against Attorney General Eric Holder and the Federal Bureau of Investigation over enforcement of a federal statute that can deny gun rights to someone with a simple misdemeanor conviction on his record."

"The lawsuit was filed in United States District Court for the District of Columbia. SAF and co-plaintiff Jefferson Wayne Schrader of Cleveland, GA are represented by attorney Alan Gura, who successfully argued both the Heller and McDonald cases before the U.S. Supreme Court." ...

Not all 'crime guns' have been used in crimes

... "Of course, none of the antis will tell us this. They're counting on the term 'crime gun' evoking an emotional response, one that will make their relentless demands for universal controls and registration seem appealing to a critical mass of those who don't know any better. And the thing is, they have a great advantage, with the bully pulpits their positions afford them, with their resources and access, and with a media that largely supports their agenda with what amounts to millions of dollars in free publicity." ...

Are 'buybacks' exploited to pad 'crime gun' statistics?

"'More than 4,000 guns' in Chicago this past May."

"'1,700 weapons' in Los Angeles the same month."

"'5,337 guns' in Los Angeles County late last December."

"What do these, and tens of thousands of other guns throughout the country, just over the past year, have in common? They were turned in as part of 'gun buybacks' (a classic example of a misnomer--these guns aren't being returned to a previous owner--not, in other words, being bought 'back'). There's something else it would seem they have in common: they are very likely being used to bolster statistical 'evidence' about 'crime guns,' without any regard to whether or not the guns in question were involved in any crimes." ...

"The Obama-run Washington bureaucracy has classified a common and reliable rifle, the M1 Garand, as a 'threat to public safety in the U.S.,' and the State Department has canceled plans by the Republic of Korea to return tens of thousands of surplus rifles to the U.S. for sale in the consumer market."

"The stunning classification of an ordinary gun ... as a threat came in a document by the [ATF]."

"It is being publicized by Examiner gun rights writer David Codrea, who said the federal agency appeared alarmed that there would be no more controls [over imported Garands] than any other firearm.'"

"Judge Virginia M. Kendall declined to grant a preliminary injunction to the plaintiffs in the case challenging Chicago's ban on gun ranges, Ezell v. Chicago. In her Memorandum Opinion and Order which was released today, Kendall said:"
"Now after the benefit of full briefing, an amicus brief filed by the National Rifle Association, and two days of witness testimony, this Court concludes that Plaintiffs have failed to meet their burden in establishing that they have suffered an irreparable injury and that they have no adequate remedy at law." ...

OH: Cleveland is hopelessly addicted to the fallacy of gun control

"The Ohio Supreme Court this week heard oral arguments in the case of City of Cleveland v. State of Ohio. The outcome will determine whether Ohio's cities can enact firearms restrictions above and beyond existing state law. If the State of Ohio prevails, gun laws will remain uniform throughout the state. If Cleveland prevails, municipalities will be free to create a patchwork of conflicting ordinances that could turn law-abiding gun owners into felons as they simply drive from one township to the next."

"The most intriguing question in this case is why the City of Cleveland has insisted on advancing the nonsensical idea of contradictory gun laws." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Kvetch is Yiddish for complaining. Actually, more like bitching and moaning. Whatever you call it, yesterdays arrest of rapmeister Bryan Leach has the mainstream media highlighting the fact that he loaded his illegal Kel-Tec .380 with hollow-point bullets. Hollow point bullets! The Associated Press, for example, would like you to know that Hollow-point bullets, which are legal in New York, expand after impact, a feature that can make injuries worse. As opposed to making injuries better, I suppose. Which would truly make the RCA Music Groups senior vice presidents gun number one with a bullet.

today, Ernie's House of Whoop A$$! linked to TTAG. Young Master Ernest's recommendation was as succinct as it was sarcastic: 'how to not freak out in a gunfight. by a guy who has never been in one.' True dat. I have never been in a gunfight. And I hope to God I never will. Meanwhile, let it be known that I don't just make $hit up. In terms of psychology, I have a degree. "Possibly the easiest recoiling, smoothest shooting .40 your $439 can buy? We shall see. Meanwhile, Sturm, Ruger & Co. have provided some of the factual info missing from our pre-view video post. Uh . . . Here's the gun's Unique Selling Point: 'The through-hardened, stainless steel slide on the SR40 is .060' wider than that of the SR9; the added mass of the slide reduces slide velocity during cycling, reducing recoil and improving service life.' Also good: the Ruger SR40's not a Glock, Smith or Springfield. As in brick-like. More good news: your local gun dealer has a supply that's G2G. TTAG review to follow . . ." ...

"I can understand that. Deadly things, assault rifles. Of course, that's the whole point, right? That's why the military have them. Is it OK for the troops to have assault rifles? So when you say, 'Nobody needs an assault rifle,' you mean no civilians. Civilians don't need that kind of firepower. We should keep the big guns for the troops. Are you against people owning guns to defend themselves, generally? No? So what should they use . . ."

"The Kel-Tec PMR-30 pistol is a pretty cool looking gun. While I'm about as big a fan of a .22 caliber pistol for self-defense as Hammas is for celebrating Yom Kippur, any gun that can alternate between blow back and locked breech operation depending on internal pressure gets my respect. And I love what they've done with the Sub-2000! (I keep almost buying one.) But this, this is hideous. The recently re-activated apolitical gun blogger at firearmsblog.com has a nice little Q & A session with Kel-Tec designer Tobias Obermeite. Toby addresses the critical question about the weapon potential effectiveness against an adversary: WTF?" ...

Gun Review: Mossberg 930 SPX Tactical Shotgun

"A shotgun makes such a thoroughly awesome home defense weapon. I learned the full truth of that statement during my first defensive shotgun course. My love and respect for my Remington 870 and Mossberg 590 pump guns grew, but there were a couple of students using way cool tactical auto-loaders . . . Although I tried not to let it show, I suffered from a bad case of scattergun envy. For years afterward I looked for a suitable semi-auto defensive shotgun. I just couldnt bring myself to spend roughly twice to three times what Id paid for a good pump action shotgun. Turns out I just was waiting for Mossberg to release the 930 SPX (for Special Purpose) Tactical shotgun . . ." ...

This quote from Executive Director Josh Horowitz, lifted from an anti-gun polemic in the anti-gun polemic-friendly Huffington Post illustrates the gun control organization's amoral core: 'Byron Williams was obviously not 100% mentally stable, but good mental health is not currently a prerequisite to amassing an arsenal of firearms in our society.' "Once again, a piece of paper is used to ineffectually protect someone from a predator. Protective orders and restraining orders do absolutely nothing to protect the abused. Think of it this way. I've had several close encounters myself; a relative was brutally beaten and raped. It's a very serious issue to me. It's one of the reasons I support defending the Second Amendment. It's one of the ways in which women can protect themselves. Women are fairly defenseless and I support their right to carry firearms. FULL TEXT BELOW

This great campaign mailer [below article on originating website] came to my house yesterday. The National Rifle Association (NRA) may have a policy of favoring the incumbent, but its clear which candidate in South Dakotas U.S. House race is the more solid Second Amendment supporter.

Kristi Noem has a solid rating with multiple gun rights organizations, and wont support politicians who have demonstrated hostility toward the Second Amendment. Shes a long-time regular hunter, and she sponsored the Firearms Freedom Act earlier this year which told the federal government to keep its grubby paws off firearms and ammunition manufactured and sold in South Dakota.

The choice, indeed, is clear.

"Most people hold the mistaken belief that police are the ultimate gun guys. Its an archetype born in childhood, by pre-pubescent boys playing cops and robbers. The men and women who eventually don the uniform soon learn the discrepancy between heroic fantasy and prosaic reality. Theres a reason cops call their work 'the job.' Like most jobs, 90 percent of policing is mind-numbing routine. Its easy for a cop to get blas about the whole business. Easy to get sloppy and careless about ever-present firearms. This website has chronicled numerous cases where cops' kids shoot themselves with Daddys gun. Thankfully, this isnt one of them . . ." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our Founding Fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny, which gave rise to the second amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of the country. For that reason I believe the second amendment will always be important. --JOHN F. KENNEDY
