Casey Armitage will continue to wait to find out if she will be able to reholster her gun while performing her daily duties as a city employee.
Armitage is a Harbor Beach Community Schools crossing guard, employed by the city, who has been working to have a modified portion of the citys employee handbook, regarding the firearms policy, changed.
The revised policy prohibits city employees, other than police, to carry a gun open or concealed while on the job.
The disarmed crossing guard laid her facts and research on the table Monday night at Harbor Beachs Administrative Committee meeting. The committee consists of Mayor Gary Booms and council members Al Kleinknecht and Robert J. Swartz.

How long has it been since you have had a calm, reasoned discussion with someone you don't agree with on gun rights?
Most of us have strong opinions one way or the other, and in this time of personalized information streams, sometimes its hard to understand why smart people can think so differently on this issue.
The Center is offering a chance to hear smart people on both sides of the issue present what they actually think and why, both with each other and then directly with the audience.
Join us at 7pm on October 17th in Hillberry A&B in the Student Center Building. There will be a moderated dialogue between the speakers, and then moderated conversation in a coffeehouse-type atmosphere. |

Investigators in Alamosa County say a woman appears to have been acting in self-defense when she shot and killed a man at her home in Hooper.
Sheriff Robert Jackson tells The Denver Post the homeowner was housing a former girlfriend of 53-year-old Tony Alonzo Ferrara, who was barred from the area by a restraining order.
Ferrara, wielding a realistic-looking BB gun, was shot by the homeowner as he threatened her while trying to contact his ex-girlfriend Oct. 3. He died at the scene. |

Well-funded gun control measures are on the ballots of four states this fall.
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloombergs anti-gun control groups promised back in August, as reported by The Hill, to take their fight to the ballot box. And they have succeeded in four states. They have gotten anti-Second Amendment measures onto the ballot in four states and have financially backed initiatives boosting the measures. |

When it comes to guns, we have just too many guns. (H. Clinton, 4/20/16.)
Hillary Clinton does not believe the Second Amendment allows the free ownership of firearms to all American citizens. She has vowed to destroy it, contrary to the Supreme Courts latest decision. The Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment, and I am going to make that case every chance I get. (H. Clinton, 10/1/15.) |

Mike Rowe, the host of the Discovery Channels Dirty Jobs, recently showed more common sense about democracy in America than pretty much the entire rest of the entertainment industry.
A fan wrote him asking what people can do so their vote counts. Rowe replied in a Facebook post that upended the question.
For starters, I cant encourage millions of people whom Ive never met to just run out and cast a ballot, simply because they have the right to vote. That would be like encouraging everyone to buy an AR-15, simply because they have the right to bear arms. |

Conservatives have prized the Supreme Court as much if not more than Congress and the presidency for decades. But the degree to which it is driving activists and party leaders this year is without precedent. In the Senate, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has kept the late Justice Antonin Scalias seat open for an astonishing eight months and counting just so that a Republican presidentany Republicanmight have the opportunity to fill it. And its not just Scalia. Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg (age 83), Anthony Kennedy (80), and Stephen Breyer (78) could all retire during the next presidents term. |

In August, an Oregon County commission passed an ordinance that prohibits funding for future enforcement of gun laws. This marks an important first step toward nullifying unconstitutional gun control in effect.
Curry County commissioners approved the measure 2-1. According to Commissioner David Brock Smith, under the ordinance the county will not spend any money to enforce any new gun laws. This would include both state and federal gun control measures.
The ordinance did come with a caveat, acknowledging some provisions of pre-existing laws as constitutional.
Even though the ordinance will not hinder enforcement of current federal gun control, which is also unconstitutional, it does represent a step forward. |

The state motto of North Carolina is Esse Quam Videri or to be rather than to seem. This is an appropriate phrase concerning the current race between Senator Richard Burr and challenger Deborah Ross. Though one outcome may seem likely, the race between the two is relatively close, with what is yet to be still fairly uncertain.
Currently serving his second term in the U.S. Senate, Republican Richard Burr has many times stood in support of the Second Amendment. He recently took part in a vote against the expansion of background checks proposed by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, giving the U.S. Justice Department more say in prohibiting gun sales based on suspected terrorism. |

Just to loan a firearm to a friend, neighbor, or client, the gun owner and borrower would both have to go to a federally licensed firearm dealer (FFL) to fill out government forms, pay the $30-60 fee, and have the background check done. When the borrower is ready to return the loaned gun, the same procedure and fees apply.
To further complicate matters, because the FFL procedure doesnt distinguish between sales and other kinds of transfers (like loans), before the initial transfer the owner should ideally have a notarized letter clearly stating that the ownership or title of the firearm is not being relinquished. |

This gun control failure is the second in a matter of days, as we also learned that convicted felon John Felix was charged with possessing a stolen gun when he allegedly shot and killed two Palm Springs police officers on Saturday. This means Felix completely barred from gun possession because of his felony conviction not only allegedly possessed the gun but did so in California, a state with comprehensive background checks, gun registration requirements, and no gun show loophole, online loophole, or Charleston loophole. |

Buried in the text of a story in Wednesdays New York Times about gun control is an interesting revelation about just how determined the gun prohibition lobby is to chip away at traditional Second Amendment rights, spending millions of dollars to ratchet down on gun owners.
Much of it is coming from the deep pockets of anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg, via his Everytown for Gun Safety group. They are involved in, according to the newspaper, Hillary Clintons campaign, state ballot initiatives and individual races in 20 states. |
