How bad is it in Chicago?
Its so bad the authorities dont even know how many people got shot. Or they cant keep up. Or both.
The Chicago Tribune says 2 killed, 24 shot.
NBC Chicago says since Friday five people were killed and at least 25 people were wounded in separate shootings.
Second City Cop says the number of shootings is over 30.
And then theres the future rocket scientist who decided to shoot up a Chicago Police squad car.
...Well, the *angry* police response was something like fifteen seconds as the sedan was an unmarked Chicago police car, according to Uptown Update. |

We had a little seven-year-old girl named Olivia at the Appleseed in Danville. She was from a family of five, where four were shooting.
To her credit, Olivia was very good all Saturday keeping herself busy and out of the way, but on the ride home apparently complained to mom and dad that she wanted
So, on Sunday, mom and dad brought Olivias rifle a crude wooden cut-out, spray-painted green with a laser pointer. She was quite happy on the line for much of the day, getting into proper position just as the adults did, shooting the courses of fire. She would then walk down with everyone and mark her hits on the target with a pen. It was so very cute. |

"It has been one of the biggest stories in America this year, but the BBC's Raphael Rowe found there is one subject that neither candidate in this year's presidential election wants to talk about - guns.
The shooting death of black teenager Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman in a gated community in Florida in February led to a fierce debate about racial profiling, justice and the easy availability of guns."
Submitter's comment: Once again, the BBC airs a report on a US subject that suffers from so many untruths, inaccuracies & omissions as to make an educated observer wonder if it is a work of fiction & then does nothing to correct errors when they are pointed out.

In the wake of the latest homicide in the City of Newburgh, civil right attorney Michael Sussman, who heads the Democratic Alliance, Monday called for the city to initiate a gun buyback program. Justin Doctor, 23, was gunned down early Sunday morning at Liberty and South Williams streets. Sussman, who said his organization will pledge $10,000 to initiate the program, said it should be put into action immediately before another life is lost due to gun violence. |

I took the liberty to call Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA/ILA in Washington, D.C., to get a clarification on why it took this action. He was very accommodating and explained when both candidates are rated A by the NRA, the policy is to support the incumbent. The NRA feels this support is justified since the incumbent generally has a voting record of support.
I support Second Amendment rights and I believe in the good work the NRA has done to protect them, but I do not agree with its approach when both candidates are in full support of this issue. This makes it a non-issue in the choosing of a candidate. |

An Oklahoma law going into effect on November 1 allows employees to store ammunition in their locked vehicles parked at work. A key aspect of Oklahomas Self-Defense Act allows people with valid gun licenses to carry handguns openly as well as concealed weapons in many public places. But another part of the open-carry law affects how people can store ammunition in their cars. The bill was signed by Governor Mary Fallin on November 15. Under the new law, businesses are still allowed to prohibit weapons in their buildings. |

A man who was attacked with a knife after someone barreled into his parked car and then shot the aggressor apparently acted in self defense, police said Monday.
Santa Fe police say a 33-year-old man driving a red Toyota Tacoma pickup slammed into a parked car in the 100 block of Candelario Street at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday. The driver, whos name was not released Monday morning, continued to the dead-end of the street, turned around and was confronted by the owner of the parked Nissan sedan, according to Sgt. Now, just days before a big pre-trial hearing in the case against George Zimmerman, his defense team has dropped a bombshell, blasting State Attorney Angela Corey and her office. The defense says the state isn't releasing all its evidence, using words like "haphazard and cavalier" when describing the state's handling of the case. |

For urban politicians, gun control is like the bar in "Cheers" a place of refuge they can seek out whenever things aren't going well. Things aren't going well on the crime front in Chicago, with homicides up 25 percent this year. So what else can our elected leaders do but promise action against guns?
Action against the possession and use of guns by violent felons would be a good idea, but the proposal offered by Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is something else: a penalty on nonviolent citizens who bear no blame for the carnage.
Preckwinkle suggested a tax on sales of firearms and ammunition, with the goal of defraying the costs that gunshots create for the county hospital and jail. |

Shes dressed to shoot, 19th century style, wearing a green corset over a black prairie dress swathed with glittering pins and buckles. Wavy red hair spills out the back of her emerald cowboy hat. Re: the Wake County Firearms Education and Training Center and its new roof, I decided to check in because the building was only built in 1999. 13 years seems like a very short lifespan for a roof and $800,000 like an awfully large sum of money when many county services are experiencing budget constraints.
I'm told by a county project manager that ten-year roofs were the industry standard in the nineties and that the county is replacing roofs on several similar buildings. In today's construction world, roofs typically have a lifespan of 20 to 30 years. |

Thursdays Page 1 news, Man accused of buying gun in cop killing, should be of special interest to members of the state Senate.
Thats because a bill that would institute a mandatory five-year jail term for second and subsequent violations of the states straw purchase law has been gathering dust since April 2011. Thats when it was passed by the state House.
The measure remedies an earlier version of the law that was struck down by the courts. Minus a mandatory sentencing law, people who buy guns for convicted felons might escape doing serious time for a serious crime. |

The ISRA-FEDPac is pleased to announce its list of candidate endorsements and candidate preferences for the upcoming general election.
The ISRA-FEDPac has endorsed the team of Gov. Mitt Romney and Rep. Paul Ryan over the Obama/Biden team. Illinois firearm owners have first hand experience with Obama's disdain for the right to keep and bear arms. Thus, Illinois firearm owners know full well that Obama is not the best choice for our nation's chief executive.

DeSoto Countys proposed guns in parks ordinance has been a hot button ever since word of the idea came out.
For that reason, its no surprise people packed the county board room for a public hearing on the matter.
Those on both sides of the issue had their say, before supervisors who want to make sure only people with an enhanced concealed weapons permit could have weapons at county parks and new Greenway trails.
Those who live near those trails had concerns about the ordinance infringing on their rights. |

[Miller] was generally understood to limiting the scope of the Second Amendment to the uses of arms that were related to military activities, Stevens said today during a question-and-answer session after a speech today with the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violences Legal Action Project. The Court did not overrule Miller [in Heller]. Instead it read Miller to say only that the Second Amendment does not protect those weapons not typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes, such as short-barreled shotguns . . . Thus, the Second Amendment provides no obstacle to regulations permitting the ownership or the use of the sorts of the automatic weapons used in the tragic multiple killings in Virginia, Colorado, or Arizona in recent years. |

If there has been one bright spot in the economy of the last several years, it has been in the firearms sector. Ruger, Smith & Wesson, just about any gun company you can name has been doing darn well, if not seeing record sales numbers.
The why of these increased sales is a matter of some debate, but whether it is solely or partially due to fears of anti-gun laws, politics is a huge factor. Its been said that President Barack Obama has been the greatest gun salesman ever, because fears of what he might do based upon comments he has made have driven people to get while the getting is good. |

Its been nearly a year since Wisconsins concealed weapons law took effect.
Gun owners are busy doing lots of things to take advantage of the new law, but few are pushing to change or improve it. That is a mistake.
For one thing, the law is fraught with problems. And now is the greatest opportunity to fully restore our rights. The problem is, neoconservatives are very good at doing nothing theyre petrified theyll lose ground theyve gained if they push the issue, so they become mute. |

An unusual legal controversy in Fairfax County involves crossbows and other hunting weapons and whether a new state law allows employees to take them to work.
Fairfax County government employees soon will be allowed to take guns as far as the parking lots where they work.
The new state legislation is part of a recent push by gun rights groups for broader acknowledgment of Virginia's existing gun laws. While Virginia residents have long been able to visit state or local government facilities with guns in their vehicles, Fairfax County employees were forbidden to do so by county employment policies. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Some people think that the Second Amendment is an outdated relic of an earlier time. Doubtless some also think that constitutional protections of other rights are outdated relics of earlier times. We The People own those rights regardless, unless and until We The People repeal them. For those who believe it to be outdated, the Second Amendment provides a good test of whether their allegiance is really to the Constitution of the United States, or only to their preferences in public policies and audiences. The Constitution is law, not vague aspirations, and we are obligated to protect, defend, and apply it. If the Second Amendment were truly an outdated relic, the Constitution provides a method for repeal. The Constitution does not furnish the federal courts with an eraser." --9th Circuit Court Judge Andrew Kleinfeld, dissenting opinion in which the court refused to rehear the case while citing deeply flawed anti-Second Amendment nonsense (Nordyke v. King; opinion filed April 5, 2004) |
