"On Wednesday, the National Rifle Association shed its alleged neutrality and endorsed President George W. Bush for re-election despite his exceptionally poor record on gun rights issues. Few, least of all Libertarian presidential candidate Michael Badnarik, expressed surprise."

"Over at packing.org, a discussion of the upcoming election led to this comment by a poster, upset about Bush's remarks in the third debate about how he would have signed a renewal of the assault weapon ban--had it ever reached his desk:" "Bush believes ...government has the right to ban firearms simply because they look too dangerous for commoners to own. He doesn't want my vote."

I would expect that in the next few weeks, the Democrats are going to be going to every possible 'gun rights' chat room or discussion group, and trying to promote the idea that Bush doesn't deserve the votes of gun rights activists because he doesn't share our view of the Second Amendment." ... -------

"The civilian panel that oversees conduct within the Los Angeles Police Department has frequently been misled by incomplete reports of officer-involved shootings, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday."

"Yankee hunters will be happy to know Winnipeg police have nabbed two people for a crime spree that involved stealing guns from a number of visiting American sportsmen. Early Friday morning, police arrested a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both Winnipeggers, at the Rivercrest Motel in Middlechurch." ...
"The couple had been targeting the vehicles of American hunters, then passing the guns they stole to a relative in Grand Marais, where they were to be sold, said Johnson."
"Besides the two guns found in the motel room, police also recovered five shotguns, a .44-calibre handgun, a .22-calibre handgun and two rifles, as well as some stolen furniture." ... ------

"Canada's two major parties the long-ruling Liberals and the new Conservative Party of Canada remained deadlocked after the polls closed last night. In all likelihood, that's bad news for gun ownership and public safety up north."
"The Liberals, who have gone from a 168-seat majority in the 308-seat House of Commons to a plurality of about 135 seats, will almost certainly form a coalition with the socialist New Democratic Party (NDP) to rule Canada. ... the NDP is dead set on taking away Canadians' guns and even reducing gun freedoms in the U.S. 'We're proposing going across the border to the U.S. and actively engaging in lobbying to have gun-control laws in the U.S. strengthened,' NDP leader Jack Layton explained at a May campaign rally in Winnipeg. ..." "A RENT-A-GUN service for gangsters is today exposed by the Sunday Mirror. In the week that schoolgirl Danielle Beccan was gunned down and a toddler was shot in her dad's car, our investigators were offered the hire of a Magnum .44 revolver - one of the world's most powerful handguns - for 1,500."
"And for an extra 1,000 the gun dealers were prepared to throw in a hitman, too. Evil Lee Johnson offered a Magnum to our reporter and told him: 'It's a revolver. Take it away for the day and then bring it back.'"

"Croydon, Reading, the market town of Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire - these are not places one associates with gangs, drugs and murder. But they have all experienced drive-by killings in recent months."
"News of such shootings has become depressingly familiar from places such as Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool, and London boroughs such as Hackney ..."
"But drive-by shootings in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire? Unfortunately, yes - they now happen even there. A 15-year-old schoolboy was shot in the head outside his home in High Wycombe. The tentacles of gun and gang culture have, it seems, started to envelop places that might once have been thought immune." ... -------

"DRUG-addicted drifter was last night starting a life sentence after he was found guilty of murdering British backpacker Caroline Stuttle."
"Ian Previte, 32, was also convicted on one count of robbery with personal violence against 19-year-old Miss Stuttle, who plunged ten metres to her death from the Burnett River Bridge, in Bundaberg, during a violent bag snatch on 10 April, 2002." ...
"Marjorie Marks-Stuttle set up the Carolines Rainbow Foundation to raise backpackers awareness of the importance of personal safety after her daughters murder in Australia two years ago." ...
"The charity warns against short self-defence classes and instead advocates handing over money before running away from armed thieves." ... -------
Ian didn't need a gun to kill Caroline, but she certainly could have used a gun to save herself. Except that she was in Australia, which has ensured it's violent bag snatchers an endless supply of disarmed victims. |
