The testimony before the Oversight committee by Holder and numerous officials from the Justice Department, Department of Homeland Security, and other federal agencies was a clinic on obfuscation -- and it left Issa with little choice. Its time we know the whole truth, Issa said of this latest development in the widening scandal. The documents this subpoena demands will provide answers to questions that Justice officials have tried to avoid since this investigation began eight months ago.

Butler, 49, a former police officer, was arrested in February. In addition to setting up at least five DUIs, he sold drugs for law enforcement officers and helped them open and operate a brothel, collecting and delivering the profits, according to prosecutors and a statement Butler gave them after his arrest.

... Butler said his accomplices reasoned that they could shield their illegal businesses because any complaints would be investigated by a state-run narcotics task force, which one of the officers headed.

Stunned prosecutors combed through pending criminal cases and eventually dismissed charges in at least 20 DUI and vice crimes, tainted by the involvement of the accused officers

Since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the New York Police Department has become one of the nation's most aggressive domestic intelligence agencies, targeting ethnic communities in ways that would run afoul of civil liberties rules if practiced by the federal government, an Associated Press investigation has found.

These operations have benefited from unprecedented help from the CIA, a partnership that has blurred the line between foreign and domestic spying.

The department has dispatched undercover officers, known as "rakers," into minority neighborhoods as part of a human mapping program, according to officials directly involved in the program. They've monitored daily life in bookstores, bars, cafes and nightclubs.

During a congressional hearing (video below) on Friday, Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) made light of gun violence in Arizona, which some observers believed to be poor taste given the mass shooting in Tucson, Arizona, in January that claimed six lives and wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ). Rep. Franks made the comments while the House Judiciary Committee was considering Rep. Louie Gohmerts (R-TX) bill that would allow people from states with concealed carry laws to bring guns to Washington D.C., despite handguns being banned by local D.C. gun regulations.

A cache of 21 MP-5 submachine guns and 12 large caliber handguns were stolen last week from the LAPD's SWAT unit. The weapons, which were altered to fire only blanks, could be converted back to lethal use, say police. Gun experts and online tutorials suggest the process is relatively simple and requires only a few parts. The company that manufactures the conversion kits used by the LAPD has an instructional video on its website that walks a viewer through the steps of returning an MP-5 to its original form in about five minutes.

Now making its way through Congress is a bill that is as dangerous as it is misguided, and perversely undemocratic. H.R. 822 -- the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011, would authorize a person who has a permit to carry a concealed firearm in one state, like Arizona, to carry a concealed handgun in another state where the laws may be very different, like my home state of New York.

"SALT LAKE CITY Saying police and prosecutors purposely deceived a grand jury by not presenting all of the information available, the son and daughter-in-law of a slain Brigham Young University professor filed a federal civil lawsuit Monday."

"I thought that the police were your friends. Our experience has been exactly the opposite," she said."

---------------------

Submitter's note: Six months in prison when there was ZERO evidence against not one, but two suspects. Lives ruined. I guess the idiot filled grand jury went with their "guts" instead of their brains. Guilty until proven innocent is becoming the norm. Frightening. Just wait till the "patriot" acts start being used. Try getting accountability from the feds.

Meanwhile, Mullins told a reporter Monday he was looking forward to a successful conclusion.

"We've had consultations," Mullins said. "We will move for quick dismissal."

Beck is currently scheduled to appear in Berkeley County Magistrate Court on Oct. 31 for a preliminary hearing.

"The legal allegation is incorrect in the first case," Mullins said. "And in the second case, the factual allegations are false. On the 10th, he did not carry on campus."

"Let us suspend our disbelief (and screaming) and pretend for a moment that Cummings is telling the truth. I know, but try. Heres what else he and those he shills for are asking us to believe: No crime has been committed. For that matter, no violations of regulations or policies have been committed, either. Even by those in the Phoenix office."

The head of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Darrell Issa, said he plans to send a letter to the FBI this week to ask about apparent discrepancies in the investigation of a murder related to "Fast and Furious," the government's controversial "gunwalking" case, CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports.

U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was gunned down near the U.S.-Mexico border last December, and at least two assault rifles from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Fast and Furious case were found at the scene.

I'd settle for arrest warrants.

-- Ofc. Thompson says he believed Zehm would strike him with a pop bottle so he hit Zehm in the leg with his baton.

-- "It was clearly my intention to physically detain him,"

-- Zehm said "no" after he told him

Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses - just tell them to leave their switchblades, their blackjacks and their brass knuckles at home.

The Statue of Liberty is attracting an assortment of well-armed tourists, with security officers seizing thousands of weapons from visitors headed into New York Harbor.

SUBMITTER'S COMMENT: "U.S. Park Police SWAT team officer Michael Fermaint patrolling Liberty Island." How ironic!
But what else would you expect at a federal site on the border between New York and New Jersey?

A former police officer indicted following a federal probe into unlicensed firearms dealing at Western Washington gun shows has pleaded guilty.

In May, a federal grand jury in Seattle indicted Roy Alloway, a 56-year-old retired police officer, along with three other men. While Alloway was the highest-volume purported gun seller indicted, the sting also targeted a man alleged to have sold the gun ultimately used to kill a Seattle police officer.

On Wednesday, Alloway pleaded guilty to illegally operating as a gun dealer and income tax fraud.

In court papers, prosecutors claimed Alloway bought 387 guns between January 2005 and late 2010. On three occasions, Alloway, a Port Orchard resident, sold weapons to undercover ATF agents.
