Not much bothers me more than sitting in my tree stand, bowhunting, and sweating at the same time. Perspiration is not only uncomfortable but carries odors that deer can smell at some distance. For late September and early October bowhunters it is just one of the little problems that must be tolerated.

Welcome to the cognitive dissonance zone. They call it the Gun Free Zone. The hit TV show The Twilight Zone (1959-1964) once told us in its terse intro about entering a land of both shadow and substance, but it had nothing on todays so-called gun-free zone, which requires a complete suspension of realitynever mind that, as the Crime Prevention Research Center determined, 94% of mass murderers chose gun-free zones to commit their crimes in the U.S. between 1950 and 2019, as they wanted to prey on unarmed victims; regardless, we are supposed to believe that criminals will obey the gun-free zone signs. |

By now the Tract Optics story should be well known to shooters. The company pioneered the concept of direct-to-consumer optics sales, and in the past 7 years, it has grown to cover a wide range of optics both for the tactical and hunting markets. Tract offers high-quality optics at outstanding prices, as there is no middleman.

If you're looking for a website like QAnon, but catering to gun control advocates, you will enjoy some articles from The Trace, a gun control website founded and funded by Michael Bloomberg. In August, The Trace presented a conspiracy about the amicus briefs filed in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. The article was reprinted by Politico. Will Van Sant, The NRA's Shadowy Supreme Court Lobbying Campaign, Politico, Aug. 5, 2022. |

For more than 175 years, Iowans have been among the relative handful of citizens without a specific right to keep and bear arms provision in their state constitution, but that could change Nov. 8 when Hawkeye State voters will cast their ballots on the proposed amendment to enshrine the right. |

The Second Amendment Foundation and its partners have filed a memorandum in support of their earlier motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction in the case of Hardaway Jr. et.al. v. Bruen, challenging New York states restrictive new gun control statute. The lawsuit was filed last week in U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York. It involves Bishop Larry A. Boyd of Buffalo and Rev. Dr. Jimmie Hardaway, Jr., of Niagara Falls, who are challenging a ban on legal firearms carry in churches, which they say is unconstitutional. Joining SAF is the Firearms Policy Coalition, Inc. |

Team Smith & Wesson's Julie Golob and Jerry Miculek are legends in the shooting sports. He's the fastest shooter in the world. She's one of the winningest women in competitive shooting. Like most competitive shooters, though, what they want more than one more trophy for their own overcrowded mantels is to see you bring home the first one for yours. That's a lot more possible than you might think. After all, everybody starts somewhere and you'll never know how good you could be unless you try!

The problem with any pistol drum snail mag is that you expect it to run over a pound of ammo-- mostly outside of the magazine well-- up a long column and into the chamber under varying spring pressure while the whole affair is held in place by a mag release designed to hold significantly less weight centered in the pistol's grip rather than dangling like a pendulum below it. In other words, the pistol wasn't designed for it, and the mag must overcome this ramp of impending doom.

Rather than heed the landmark ruling by the nation's highest court earlier this year when it comes to carry rights, lawmakers in New Jersey are seeking to make it harder than ever. On Monday, the Democrat-controlled New Jersey Assembly Judiciary Committee rubber-stamped A4769 in a 3-2 vote along party lines. The measure, unveiled last week by Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Senate President Nick Scutari is billed as making New Jersey the toughest in the nation when it comes to concealed-carry laws.

For a little over 30 years, I was the editor of S.W.A.T. Magazine. Although the focus of the magazine was basically tactical firearms, my heart has always been with older guns. As an example, Ive written several articles for GUNS on century-old shotguns. I have attended classes at Gunsite with a #3 Schofield and a Single Action Army.
