Gun shows are frequent events and usually laid back, but the one staged on Aug. 20 at the former McClellan Air Force Base near Sacramento had a noticeably frenzied ambiance. While many attendees just wandered from table to table, looking at firearms for sale, others were lined up five and six deep at a booth against the wall -- one with hundreds of plastic cases, each filled with 500 or more rounds of ammunition and priced well under retail store prices. |

Small clues tell you Andrew McNamara has a thing for skeet shooting.
His dog's name is Briley, after the manufacturer of the tube set McNamara uses to adjust the gauge on his gun.
His email address uses the phrase "hundred straight," which is the number of targets a shooter must hit to post a perfect score.
And soon, the JBER airman will be wearing a flashy ring that identifies him as a world skeet shooting champion.
A week after bagging a pair of grouse while hunting with friends on base, McNamara won the .410 bore title Oct. 8 at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas.

Savage City Council members declined Monday night to move forward with a proposed distancing ordinance regarding gun stores, citing a lack of data showing it would make the community safer. The proposed ordinance, which would have prevented new gun stores from opening within 500 feet of certain protected uses, was on the agenda for consideration at the Oct. 17 meeting, following more than three months of discussion regarding the issue. After about 20 minutes of council members sharing their thoughts on the proposed ordinance, no council members made a motion to approve a resolution enacting the ordinance. |

There's a battle brewing in one Metro Detroit community, and it's all over the gunfire residents have to listen to.
A homeowner in the Forest Ridge neighborhood in Howell decided to build an outdoor gun range in his backyard, and that has his neighbors worried for their safety and irritated over the noise.
"I believe people have a right to do what they want on their land, but at some point, it can't impede other people from doing what they want on their land, too," he said.
Residents have been calling the Livingston County Sheriff's Department to complain about the noise and the possible danger.
"He does have the right to shoot," officials said at the meeting.

Carrie Severino, the chief counsel and policy director for the Judicial Crisis Network, said she didn't expect the group will need to get involved in Rutledge's bid for re-election. Rutledge on Monday said she was seeking another four-year term and filed her first fundraising report with the state. |

The current presidential election notwithstanding, there are very few topics that generate as much passionate debate as the Second Amendment and gun control. Every time a tragic event occurs, the left calls for a renewal of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban and other restrictive gun control measures, claiming that the proliferation of firearms in this country is responsible for a disproportionate amount of violence and poses an ongoing threat to public safety. |

A gun control initiative that would expand background checks to all private gun sales in Nevada also portends something else: The Californication of Nevada. After all, the initiative is not Nevadan in its funding, the bulk of which comes from Michael Bloombergs Everytown for Gun Safety. Nor is the initiative Nevadan in its conception. Rather, the Los Angles Times posits Nevada as a state chosen by external forces to be the latest testing site for Michael R. Bloombergs attempt to pass a law requiring background checks for gun sales between private parties, including those conducted over the Internet. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
I do believe that where there is a choice only between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence. Thus when my eldest son asked me what he should have done had he been present when I was almost fatally assaulted in 1908 [by an Indian extremist opposed to Gandhi's agreement with Smuts], whether he should have run away and seen me killed or whether he should have used his physical force which he could and wanted to use, and defend me, I told him it was his duty to defend me even by using violence. Hence it was that I took part in the Boer War, the so-called Zulu Rebellion and [World War I]. Hence also do I advocate training in arms for those who believe in the method of violence. I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honor than that she should in a cowardly manner become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor. Mohandas K. Gandhi, Young India, August 11, 1920 from Fischer, Louis ed.,The Essential Gandhi, 1962 |
