It was hunting and stalking of the most dangerous kind. The consequences of a misstep would be drastic, maybe even fatal. For a very young man tackling his first life-or-death gamble, it was heady adventure. I stood a short distance away from the tall tree. Underneath its heavily laden branches, my quarry lay still and silent in the night.

I haven't been immune to the growing trend of pistol-mounted optics. Frankly, it's almost impossible to ignore right now as more and more guns roll out with red-dot options, but I can't say I am loving the new fad as much as some shooters. In fact, I recently removed the red-dot optic from my carry pistol. Some people might love them, but I've personally had too many issues with pistol red dots to trust my life on them just yet. Below are the reasons why. |

Last fall, California�s oleaginous governor signed a bill into law that allows the distribution of personal information of the state�s gun buyers with academic researchers. Researchers like gun control advocate Garen Wintemute who runs the UC Davis California Firearm Violence Research Center, a producer of anti-gun �research� used to back efforts to limit Second Amendment rights.

A federal judge in Tacoma, Washington has allowed a Seattle-based gun prohibition lobbying group to intervene as a defendant in the Second Amendment Foundation�s challenge of an Evergreen State magazine ban which became effective July 1.
The billionaire-backed Alliance for Gun Responsibility requested intervention only days after the law took effect. Their motion was supported by Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson and State Patrol Chief John Batiste, who are defendants in the case. The Alliance supported the magazine ban as part of its gun prohibition political agenda, and Ferguson requested the legislation earlier this year.

Turn in a gun, get some money. That�s the plan in Oakland County, where police plan to buy guns from the public to get them out of circulation. Those who turn in guns are to receive generic Visa-type gift cards. The amounts are $100 in exchange for a handgun, $200 for a long gun and $300 for an assault rifle, according to a news release.

A school district in Northwest Iowa is allowing some staff members to carry guns on school grounds. The district in Cherokee, Iowa, came to the decision during a board meeting on Monday. Teachers and parents had a chance to speak during the meeting. Some said it is a necessary measure and are grateful the school is being proactive. Others presented data about school shootings and were curious about training.

The Kirkland Police Department will welcome residents back this month for the third iteration of its popular "Guns for Gift Cards" firearm exchange program, which paid out more than $18,000 over two events during the summer. The inaugural June event took in 91 guns, and a July event took in another 60 in just two hours.

The Kaiser Family Foundation did an analysis of federal data and found a disturbing trend. Not only are firearm deaths among children on the rise, 47% of youth suicides involve guns. That�s a 26% increase from prior years. Cleveland Clinic Children�s emergency physician, Dr. Purva Grover, says the combination of kids and guns is a public health crisis.

Quite possibly the most iconic cartridge in the United States, the .45 Colt was developed by gunmaker Samuel Colt as a black powder cartridge in 1872, for the Colt Single Action Army (aka the Peacemaker) revolver. This cartridge features a .454-inch bullet inside a rimmed, straight-walled case that measures 1.285 inches in length. Commonly called the .45 Long Colt (LC), the overall length of the round is 1.6 inches. It features a large pistol primer and is pressurized to 14,000 pounds per square inch (psi).

Donors attending the upcoming �Ronald Reagan Black Tie and Blue Jeans BBQ� will have to decide for themselves whether hearing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis speak is worth an infringement of their Second Amendment rights. The $60-per-plate fundraiser will be held Thursday in the Legacy Park Multipurpose Center � a public building owned by the city of Alachua, Florida, which is taxpayer funded and supported.

From the streets of Detroit to the woods of the Upper Peninsula, it may seem as if residents in Michigan can't agree on much. But a new statewide survey shows that a majority of citizens are in favor of more stringent gun control.
When you ask Michigan residents if they support strong gun control laws, you would assume that Up North a majority would oppose it. As it turns out, you would be wrong.
Across the entire state, 66% of all citizens back tougher gun control. Included in that is 50% of Up North residents.
In the Metro Detroit tri-county area, 73% of all those surveyed support stricter controls while central Michigan � including Lansing � is around 54%. |
