NEW YORK -- "By law, officers wearing a badge can carry a handgun. They are not required by law to have a pistol permit. However, many police departments urge officers to get one."
"I don't think you can be too careful," he said. "It will give us a little more coverage. So, if someone stops and asks what we are doing with the pistol, the permit is one more legal document."
Sarchioto (also) said the permits will allow the officers to practice using their own pistols. |

PHOENIX (AP) -- "Mesa Air Group Inc. said Thursday it would begin training its pilots to carry and use non-lethal stun guns in the cockpit in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration."
"The airline said it would use Taser brand stun guns, which fire a connected projectile up to 15 feet away. It adminsters a high voltage shock to the target, who can be left in a dazed mental state."

An armed National Guard soldier assigned to patrol Sky Harbor International Airport was unmasked as a felon and arrested on weapons charges.
Second Lt. Lyndon Ramlogan violated his probation by carrying a military-issue 9mm handgun while guarding the metal detectors in the airport, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said. Ramlogan was jailed on suspicion of illegal possession of a firearm. |

TEXAS CITY � Fees for the Rankin L. DeWalt Shooting Range will rise substantially if the city commission approves the increases at its meeting on Wednesday.
The commission is expected to vote on the proposed increases at its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The commission will meet in City Hall at 1801 Ninth Ave. N., in Texas City. |

PHOENIX -- Mesa Air Group said that it plans to train its pilots how to use non-lethal stun guns, bringing a rebuke from the Federal Aviation Administration.
In Washington, FAA spokesman Paul Takemoto said federal regulations ban stun guns and other weapons from planes. "No airline may permit a deadly or dangerous weapon on the aircraft," Takemoto said. |

When terrorists attacked New York City and Washington on Sept. 11, students in the school's Student Anti-Violence Education classes decided they wanted to do something to recognize the difficult time facing the country. As a result, each Tuesday since the attacks, the entire student body has been invited to attend a 7:45a.m. ceremony to watch the flag be raised in front of the school.
