heres no denying that many Americans are better prepared to defend themselves with firearms than possibly any time in our nations history. Or are they?
Those gun-owning Americans spend hours each day at the gun range shooting, tweaking gear, and improving their shooting skills. Those days at the range, however, could be leading those gun owners in the wrong direction or providing a false sense of security. |

The recent deadly shooting at an Oregon community college, like so many before it, isn't likely to lead to new federal laws designed to curb dangerous people's access to guns. While this understandably frustrates supporters of gun safety legislation, there is reason for them to be hopeful. The National Rifle Association's days of being a political powerhouse may be numbered. |

The Supreme Court has so far resisted elaborating on two landmark decisions that established a nationwide right to defend ones home with a gun.
That could change with a new appeal filed by gun owners that challenges an Illinois suburbs assault weapons ban. |

After the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre, each side of the national gun-control debate turned to women to give their agenda an edge. Such women who testify at House committee hearings usually fall into one of a few predictable archetypes. Batting for the liberal team are grieving mothers, often white, who have lost children to gun violence. This was demonstrated on Wednesday night at the first Democratic debate when Martin OMalley used an anecdote about a bereaved mother to support his argument for stricter gun laws. |

I hate to say it, but Ronald Reagan was the father of the modern gun-control movement in America. Of course, that was at a different time in this country, when Reagan was governor of California and black radicals had taken over the Statehouse toting machine guns and chanting Black power. At that time, the solution to having large numbers of blacks publicly exercising their Second Amendment rights scared the religion out of a political establishment already on edge at the height of agitation over civil rights.

A federal appeals court ruled today that New York's controversial SAFE Act is valid, but struck down a provision which limits the number of rounds in a magazine to seven.
Since its passage in 2012, many gun advocate groups and Republican legislators have argued that the law violates the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The legislation was pushed through shortly after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

Fewer guns, fewer gun-related deaths. A simple enough concept, so knock-you-over-the-head obvious that it practically begs for an equally blunt -- if totally oblivious -- response, one made by plenty of pro-gun rights advocates: more guns make us safer.
But a look at the social science literature surrounding the U.S. gun violence debate shows how painfully real the gun prevalence-gun death correlation is, and suggests that it could prove very difficult to dig the country out of the hole it finds itself in. |

After another violent weekend in Chicago, city officials are making another push to get guns off the streets. Mayor Rahm Emanuel is set to announce a new $250,000 fund for community-based gun buy-back events across the city.
Churches and neighborhood organizations will be able to partner with the city to host buy-back events in their communities, in which people in possession of firearms can hand them over to the city in exchange for cash. The city used to solely run the events one location at a time. |

Eric Dietz, director of Purdue University's Homeland Security Institute, in an op-ed published earlier this month advocating the dismantling of "gun-free zones," including college campuses. "Dr. J. Eric Dietz, Director of Purdue Universitys Homeland Security Institute, concluded that in a study of all mass shootings since the 1950s only two occurred outside of gun-free zones," Kremer wrote. |

Looks like the U.S. armed forces have a few makers in their barracks who love playing with Raspberry Pis and soldering guns. The Army Cyber Institute at West Point has shown off a device the size of a rifle that can shoot a Parrot AR Quadcopter down from the sky by using an exploit created to hijack those particular drones.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
For, in principle, there is no difference between a law prohibiting the wearing of concealed arms, and a law forbidding the wearing such as are exposed; and if the former be unconstitutional, the latter must be so likewise. But it should not be forgotten, that it is not only a part of the right that is secured by the constitution; it is the right entire and complete, as it existed at the adoption of the constitution; and if any portion of that right be impaired, immaterial how small the part may be, and immaterial the order of time at which it be done, it is equally forbidden by the constitution. [Bliss vs. Commonwealth, 12 Ky. (2 Litt.) 90, at 92, and 93, 13 Am. Dec. 251 (1822) |
