CT: Self-defense rights must be protected

Capitalism as we knew it in the past is now dead. Integrity means responsibility to one's country and the preservation of its Constitution and Bill of Rights. The most potent right is the right to bear arms in one's defense of country and home.

This is something Governor Rell has forgotten in her long political career.

I call on Governor Rell to get off her platform of "go along to get along" with liberal philosophies and immediately initiate legislation on the one's castle defense law, wherein, with thuggery and home invasion increasing, homeowners must have the uninhibited right to shoot to kill in self-defense.

To their credit, both Obama and McCain oppose torture, but regardless of who becomes president, the Constitution will continue to be ignored. McCain supports the police-state Patriot Act and has already given us "campaign finance reforms" that violate First Amendment-guaranteed rights to free speech by banning broadcasting other than party-produced ads that take stands on candidates for federal offices 60 days before a general election. And Obama's ludicrous claims of support for the Second Amendment guarantee of the individual right to keep and bear arms are blatantly belied by both the qualifications in his claims and his voting record.

The [NRA] is spending more than $10 million to defeat Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois. The Obama campaign says that the NRA is spreading false information and that Obama is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment. Here is a sample of NRA ads airing on television stations across the country:

Ad ad airing in English and Spanish links illegal immigrant criminals with gun rights. It features Andy Vaquera, a man identified as a retired Texas police officer. Vaquera says that Obama would deny families the right to use firearms for self defense "against rapists, drug dealers and other criminals illegally crossing our borders." The spot shows mug shots, crime scenes and a grainy picture of Obama.

A July 8-13 Quinnipiac poll found that only one in three Americans think that the highest court in the land is moving in the right direction, however. This finding is not unexpected, as the Roberts Court has produced increasingly reckless and partisan opinions.

The recent District of Columbia v. Heller decision is a prime example. In the 5-4 ruling, the Court decided that the District of Columbia's ban on private handgun ownership violated the Second Amendment. The majority opinion also explicitly endorsed an individual right to bear arms outside of service in "a well regulated Militia" -- a position virtually without precedent at the federal appellate court level prior to the Heller case.

Ruling on Guns Elicits Rebuke From the Right

Four months after the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess guns, its decision is under assault from the right.

Two prominent federal appeals court judges say that Justice Antonin Scalias majority opinion in the case, District of Columbia v. Heller, is illegitimate, activist, poorly reasoned and fueled by politics rather than principle. The 5-to-4 decision in Heller struck down parts of a District of Columbia gun control law.

"Im not going to take anyones guns away," Franken said Sunday in an interview after he met with about 20 Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe members in Cass Lake.

"People should know my stance is the same as Barack Obamas. its the same as Norm Colemans. Its the same as John McCains, which is Americans have the right to possess firearms for hunting and protection and collection."

The NRA Political Victory Fund, however, gave Franken an "F" on gun issues while giving incumbent Coleman an "A."

In this excerpt from novelist Mark Spungin's tale of a possible near-future, the US Senate, in thrall to an evil leftist president, ratifies the UN Global Gun Ban Treaty. Congress passes implementing legislation and an aggressive enforcement effort is launched.

There are those in Wyoming who decide not to comply with the new laws. The old ways suit them just fine, and they are willing to take whatever measures are necessary to preserve their traditional lifestyle.

They have no intention of letting themselves become prey to the predatory treaty enforcers, as they soon demonstrate.

The revised firearms and swords possession control law would ban the possession of daggers and other double-edged knives whose blades are 5.5 centimeters or longer, and swords and spears with blades of 15 cm or longer. At present, one is prohibited from owning swords, knives and spears whose blades are 15 cm or longer.

The bill would also expand the scope of a ban on gun ownership to people with such records of such criminal action as stalking and domestic violence as well as bankrupt people and those feared to commit suicide.

"A husband who hacked his wife to death with a meat cleaver in fury over her Facebook entry was jailed for a minimum of 14 years..."

"He repeatedly called home and threatened to kill her."

"Forrester drove to Croydon armed with the knife and meat cleaver and forced the front door open. After neighbours called 999 he emerged from the house covered in blood and holding a carton of juice."

Submitter's note: Whether it's dialing 911 or 999, one cannot rely on the police to protect you. The sad thing is that of the 50 or so comments below the story, not one single brainwashed Brit even suggests that a shotgun may have saved this poor woman's life.

The stifling of parody on college campuses in recent years is a sad tale of censorship, oversensitivity, and overreaction in the wake of actual incidents of violence. The latest case, as we document in today's press release, occurred over nothing worsebe careful, and don't be alarmed!than a Letterman-style "top ten" list of "Gun Safety Tips." The official student organization that published this list on a recruiting flyer, Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) at Lone Star CollegeTomball, had their flyers confiscated during Lone Star CollegeTomball's "club rush," and shortly afterward the group was told that their group was under investigation and probably would be suspendedif not derecognized altogether.

IL: Dead robber's mom: Shooting not right

Brandon Starks' mother tearfully condemned the shooting that took his life after he robbed a Waukegan grocery store, questioning why the store clerk who shot him outside the business didn't instead call police.
"If you had time to run out of the store, you had time to call the police," Veda Starks said Wednesday, standing outside the family's North Chicago home. The 20-year-old Starks -- a convicted burglar paroled from prison less than a month ago -- was shot to death by a store clerk Monday night as he fled the People's Market after robbing the store with a chrome-plated pellet gun."

IL: Even in self-defense case, clerk could be charged

The Waukegan clerk who authorities say shot a fleeing robber could face criminal charges -- even if he acted in self-defense, a previous case demonstrates...
...The Waukegan clerk did not have a firearm owner's identification card, police said. So he could also be charged with a state firearms violation. Illinois law allows people to carry a gun in a "fixed place of business," but the person must be the owner or have a proprietary interest in the business -- not just an employee.

The Remington 870 pump shotgun, the most popular civilian firearm ever produced, will be dressed up in 2009 to appeal to Generation-X or Y or whatever designation is being used for today's young adults. Remington has built nearly 10 million of the rugged pump action shotguns at its Ilion plant since its introduction in 1950 and the 870 continues to be the No. 1 or No. 2 seller worldwide every year. But appealing to the 18 to 35 year-old demographic seems to be the ticket to prosperity in today's world, and an exceedingly simple, easy-to-clean, easy-to-disassemble, easy-to-operate, streamlined 870 called the 887 NitroMag is designed for that purpose.

HELENA - Democrat Steve Bullock and Republican Tim Fox, the two men running to be Montana's next attorney general, have been in a gun fight for months now.

Since July, Fox has pushed gun rights as a cornerstone of his campaign and targeted Bullock for being, in his campaign's estimation, weak on the issue. The National Rifle Association and the Montana Shooting Sports Association have endorsed Fox.

But Bullock's position in favor of gun rights is also strong and, Bullock said, tested by personal tragedy.

A Tulsan who shot and wounded a man as he allegedly tried to break through the resident's front door says he's unsure why the suspect wanted to break into his home. Shortly before midnight Thursday, resident Steve Manning says he was awakened by his wife, who heard someone trying to break into their home. The intruder, later identified by police as 21-year-old Robert Alan Wickham, repeatedly rammed the front door with a straight arm, demanding that Manning open the door. Manning says he warned Wickham several times that he would be shot if he broke into the house. When Wickham finally jarred the door open, Manning fired at least two shots into Wickham's left leg.

A small group of students at Ball State University says students should have the right to carry concealed weapons on campus to protect themselves in case of an attack. Junior criminal justice major Blake Graham heads the campus organization called Ball State Students for Concealed Carry on Campus. The group drew about 10 people, most of whom have gun permits, to a meeting this month. "We feel that it's our right that we need to be able to protect ourselves," Graham said.

"In other words, the mayor and Police Chief Michael McGrath are engaging in a bit of activism, a bit of deliberate indifference, a bit of premeditated lawbreaking and a bit of conspiracy to deprive citizens of their rights under color of authority? Would anyone prosecuting a criminal charge of open carry on behalf of the city be similarly engaged? And importantly, do we all get to ignore laws we dont agree with, too, and make up our own, or is that privilege reserved exclusively for our public official royalty?"

"The TSA reached a mind-boggling new low in customer service this week when it was revealed that one agent had single-handedly absconded with over $200,000 worth of travelers' belongings, primarily cameras and laptops, and proceeded to unload his booty on eBay. His latest haul: A near-$50,000 camera that an HBO employee had been traveling with."

"The culprit is one Pythias Brown, a New Jersey resident who worked in the TSA department at Newark Liberty Airport. ... How'd he finally get caught? Brown snagged a camera belonging to CNN, and they found it for sale on eBay ..." ...

"Of note: Brown appears to have been taking items from checked luggage in the back rooms of the airport, not carry-ons. ..." ...

To at least one Midwest City man, openly carrying a gun is a matter of safety for him and his family. Fears of shoot-outs like those of the Old West are just fear-mongering, he said. Donald Ohse is part of a movement to change laws in several states, including Oklahoma, so people can openly carry their weapons.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
In our inner cities, where firearms are outlawed, only outlaws are armed. When our "philosopher kings" sit back and do nothing, this is the tyranny and terror of "gun control." CHARLTON HESTON
