"We've talked about Oath Keepers many times here on Gun Rights Examiner. Now the 'mainstream media' is starting to take notice of them. And some are taking their cues from fabricated and hysterical Southern Poverty Law Center cries of 'Witch!'...I mean 'Hate group!'"

"For those of you who may not be familiar with the organization, here's how they describe themselves:"
"Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of currently serving military, reserves, National Guard, veterans, Peace Officers, and Fire Fighters who will fulfill the Oath we swore, with the support of like minded citizens who take an Oath to stand with us, to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God. Our Oath is to the Constitution" ...

"On October 13, the Associated Press reported that the so-called Bi-National Task Force on Rethinking the United States-Mexico Border has produced a report, which, among other things, calls for re-imposition of the federal 'assault weapon' ban of 1994-2004, saying it would improve security in both countries."

"The 'border-rethinking' group has been put together by the Pacific Council on International Policy and the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations. The group consists mostly of former U.S. and Mexican officials and journalists, none of them currently elected by the people of the U.S. or Mexico to make policy on these issues." ...

Oath Keepers: How is a vow to uphold the Constitution a 'threat'?

"Back in April, I wrote about the rather startling resemblance between what the Department of Homeland Security characterizes as potential 'homegrown terrorists,' and a group whose raison d'etre is about as far removed from violent attacks on America as is possible. I refer to the Oath Keepers ..." ...

"Joining the Oath Keepers involves taking an oath to refuse any unlawful (i.e., unconstitutional) order. So if, for example, an Oath Keeper in the police or National Guard were to receive orders to disarm law-abiding American citizens ... he or she would be honor-bound to refuse that unlawful order, which would violate citizens' Constitutionally guaranteed, fundamental human right of the individual to keep and bear arms ..." ...

"On October 14, 2009 the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit upheld the conviction of a postal employee for possessing a gun in his vehicle while parked on a non-public United States Postal Service (USPS) parking lot in violation of a federal regulation at 39 CFR 232.1(l). ..."

"Mr. Doroson had appealed the conviction on the ground that the USPS gun ban violated the Second Amendment. The Fifth Circuit panel disagreed ..." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: In fact in MN the Postal Service has said that employees can't keep a gun in their vehicle even in a public parking lot, even if that lot belongs to a mall where the PO is renting space, despite MN law to the contrary! MN Statute 624.714 Subd. 18 (c) Notwithstanding paragraphs (a) and (b), an employer or a postsecondary institution may not prohibit the lawful carry or possession of firearms in a parking facility or parking area.

Oh, and ammunition, bows and arrows are "guns" for the purposes of this rule.

... "On the other hand, there are moments when the paranoia of the wingnuts is almost comical. A new group called Oath Keepers has pledged to keep the feds from violating the Second Amendment by confiscating weapons."
"Formed in March, they are ex-military and police who repledge themselves to defend the Constitution, even if it means disobeying orders. If the U.S. government ordered law enforcement agencies to violate Second Amendment rights by disarming the people, Oath Keepers will not obey."

"'The whole point of Oath Keepers is to stop a dictatorship from ever happening here,' says founding father Stewart Rhodes, an ex-Army paratrooper and Yale-trained lawyer. 'My focus is on the guys with the guns, because they can't do it without them.'" ...

"I am a firm supporter of the second amendment right to bear arms. In the state of Alabama there is one aspect where our second amendment rights are being heinously violated. The aspect I am referring to is the fact that it is illegal for people to openly carry a sword. ..."

"Why is it perfectly fine to have a concealed .44 magnum with a permit, but completely illegal to have a gladius on your belt? Why is it acceptable to own an AK-47 and a thousand rounds of ammunition in Alabama, but not acceptable to sell a fully sharpened sword? I support the right to own a gun for self-defense, but I personally detest them. So what am I supposed to carry to protect myself when the best alternative is illegal to carry in the streets?" ...

"Another wave of armed robberies put Columbus college students at risk yet again due to the archaic ban on legal concealed carry on campus. As a result, students are easy pickings for criminals looking for a sure thing."

"In this case, one student ... was robbed and two different students at Ohio State were targeted. One student was kidnapped from the OSU campus at gunpoint and taken to an ATM to get cash for his attackers. Luckily, none of the students were harmed. An employee at a UniPrint store on the OSU campus, however, wasn't so fortunate. Two armed suspects ... forcefully entered the store before it had opened (bypassing the 'no-guns' signs prominently displayed on the front doors) and pistol-whipped the employee." ...

"While doing some initial Rally setup, we learned that some anti- gunners had tried to pass some of their lies, er, literature out to a few stores and had been run off by mall management ... The Innsbrook Shoppes manager ... made it clear that the only literature that would be handed out on his property was that offered by citizens carrying guns."

"The rally was to protest Congressman Eric Cantor holding the 'Republican Roundup' at a gun-free zone each year. That is especially irksome as Cantor is well aware that there are other nearby venues that are gun-friendly. Well before last year's Roundup, several Republican gun owners even offered donations ... to move the event to a gun-friendly venue, but that offer was ignored." ...

"The demand for concealed handgun licenses is on the upswing, and a local police department is meeting the need to teach people how to exercise their right responsibly."

"The trend is widespread across Texas, and most people are attributing the increase to the presidential election ... because people started fearing their right to bear arms may be limited under the new administration."

"Beginning in December 2008, the Texas Department of Public Safety started receiving an unprecedented number of applications of concealed handgun permits ... During the first six months of 2009, DPS received an average of 12,700 applications per month, which is 46 percent more than the average for the first six months of 2008, which was 8,700." ...

"This hardly bears saying, but hunters and gun collectors do themselves and their cause no good at all when they fail to properly look after their weapons and a tragedy results."

"Could there be a sadder story than the one out of Delaware County last week detailing how a 12-year-old boy shot and killed his 8-year-old brother while their parents were away?" ...

"In some circles, the incident will renew calls for a ban on guns. Proponents will argue correctly, no doubt that, if guns were not allowed, that child would be alive today."

"But changing the U.S. Constitution and eliminating a bedrock right should not be deemed an appropriate response to an individual lapse in judgment. ..." ...

"This week, Governor Schwarzenegger (R-Calif.) signed yet another severe, but impotent gun control measure into law. Assembly Bill 962 ... mandates individuals purchasing ammunition to be fingerprinted and registered at the time of sale and outlaws mail order ammunition purchases. AB 962 will also require dealers to maintain these records indefinitely and make them available for inspection by the California Department of Justice."

"As an additional burden, ammunition retailers will also be required to store ammunition away from purchasers. AB 962 failed to garner support from Attorney General Brown, or any law enforcement organization. In fact, 15 sheriffs wrote letters of opposition to this legislation." ...

"Although he was never found competent to stand trial, authorities and witnesses say Unruh methodically walked Camden's 32nd Street on the afternoon of September 6, 1949, targeting several business owners on a hit list and firing at others who crossed his path, including children. The weapon of choice was a German-crafted Luger pistol." ...

"Though the case never went to trial, Unruh was considered by some as the first single-episode mass murderer in the United States." ...
