"In Ohio this week, John Kerry tried to stage something for the press to show that he's not an anti-gun elitist who looks down his nose at the voting public. But the dog-and-pony show he put on in order to hunt geese in Ohio the other day largely served as another political opportunity for the Bush campaign and the National Rifle Association to remind gun owners that few senators have been as hostile to them as Mr. Kerry."

"Mr. Kerry's Ohio hunting adventure started last Saturday, when the senator, campaign entourage in tow, went into a grocery store and asked the owner: 'Can I get me a hunting license here?' Even the phraseology sounded staged. Mr. Kerry ordinarily doesn't talk this way, and his language sounded fake and patronizing as if he was pretending to talk like someone from rural Ohio." ...

"The Bush Administration has announced plans to open new hunting and fishing programs on 10 national wildlife refuges and wetland management districts in Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, North Dakota, South Carolina and South Dakota as part of its annual Refuge-Specific Hunting and Sport Fishing Regulations."

"With the changes in this proposed rule, there will be 325 public hunting programs and 283 public fishing programs on national wildlife refuges."

"'With this proposal, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will have launched over 60 new hunting and fishing programs on national wildlife refuges since 2001, enhancing access and opportunity for millions of Americans to enjoy their favorite outdoor traditions,' said Steve Williams, usfws director." ...

"Senator John Kerry went hunting for a goose in Ohio Thursday morning, but his record of anti-gun votes could mean that America's gun owners will find it is their 'goose getting cooked' if Kerry becomes president, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), said today."

"'Pictures are supposed to be worth a thousand words,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, 'but Kerry has managed to show his true feelings about gun rights with a lot fewer words over the years. He supported legislation that would ban ammunition for hunting rifles. He backs a poorly-drafted bill that could ban semi-automatic shotguns. He voted to allow anti-gun politicians to file frivolous lawsuits against law-abiding firearms manufacturers. He has, in fact, never seen a piece of gun control legislation that he did not vote for.'" ...

"Remember Bill Clinton? During the campaign, he staged a duck hunt and posed for the cameras as a hunter and sportsman. He got elected and signed into law the most sweeping gun ban in American history, posing for the cameras with Chuck Schumer, Sarah Brady and the rest of the anti-Second Amendment lobby."

"Remember Jane Fonda? She loved guns so much she had her photograph taken with an anti-aircraft gun in Vietnam. The problem was, it was in North Vietnam! She didnt mind that gun, but spent years trying to deny your firearms freedom in America."

"Dont believe the campaign photos and rhetoric. Believe the record." ...

"'He has voted not once, not twice, but 50 times against the Second Amendment,' says Chris Cox, NRAs executive director for legislative action. 'Hes voted to close all hunting lands.'"

"In addition, the NRA says Kerry voted to ban guns nine times, and Kerry proved himself to be a hypocrite by accepting a Remington 1187, a popular hunting shotgun, at a West Virginia rally."

... "Dave has a list of writing credits that is simply too long to include in a newspaper column. However, his latest book (he was written a number of books) is 'Shotgunning For Deer.' Dave claims this book is a 'labor of love.' I can state with out fear of being proven wrong that Dave Henderson is considered one of the few true authorities on slug shooting in this nation. Noted gun-writer, Wayne van Zwolll acknowledges that in the foreword by stating 'There are other books on hunting. But if you hunt deer with a shotgun, you must read this one. Its that good.' "A growing number of hunters are losing faith in the National Rifle Association due do the organization's positions on a variety of issues, including the assault-weapons ban and anti-environmental measures, the Knight Ridder news service reported Oct. 20."

"Mike Hayden, secretary of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, has allowed his NRA membership to lapse because 'I just don't think the NRA represents the best interests of hunters, with the extreme positions it takes.'" ...

"For those of you who read the Pocono Record you may have been horrified by a suicide-murder by a husband in his Penn Estates home on Monday night after his spouse received a protection from abuse order from county court."

"Our readers may still be feeling the tragedy and drama of a recent story detailing the shooting of a Saw Creek woman. He shot her seven times, but she survived." ...

Romanian police have arrested a man after he smuggled a handmade machine gun into the countrys sole nuclear power plant, a private TV station said on Friday.

The 31-year-old man, a locksmith at the 750-megawatt reactor on the river Danube in Cernavoda identified as Eleodor Covaliu, told investigators that a person offered him 100,000 lei ($3) to smuggle the bag into the plant and hide it there.

Ive been asked to tie it (the bag) up with sticky tape and plant it inside, Covaliu told Realitatea TV. I would have earned 100,000 lei.

Police have launched an investigation.

Analysts have said Romania, which joined NATO early this year and has been a staunch supporter of the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan and Iraq, could be a target of terror attacks.
