The Brooklyn district attorney, Charles J. Hynes, dropped all criminal charges on Monday against a young man whose arrest inside a Jewish community center in Brooklyn led to allegations of police brutality. Police officers stated in a criminal complaint that the man, Ehud Halevy, 21, attacked them, causing one to suffer a sprained wrist, during an Oct. 8 encounter inside the Alternative Learning Institute for Young Adults on East New York Avenue in Crown Heights. Mr. Halevy was charged with a felony count of assault on police officers and a slew of other charges, including resisting arrest and criminal trespass. |

42-year-old Zina Haughton of Brown Deer, the wife of salon mass shooting suspect Radcliffe Haughton, is among the victims shot and killed at Azana Salon & Spa in Brookfield. ... In a court filing, Zina Haughton said her husband thought she was cheating on him, and threatened to kill her if she ever left him or called the police. She was granted a four-year temporary restraining order this month after her husband was arrested for slashing her tires. She told the court he threatened to burn her and her family with gas.
Submitter's comment: ANOTHER victim killed within days of receiving a "temporary restraining order." What she should have received was an instant concealed carry permit. |

Its generally hard to pinpoint the moment when a politician self-destructs the Dean scream moments are few and far between. Campaigns tend to fall apart as part of a cascade of mistakes, where the number of things going wrong simply becomes insurmountable.
When asked what he would do to restrict the availability of so-called assault weapons, the president offered the vague platitudes one would expect from a foundering candidate, before inexplicably reintroducing two unpopular gun measures ... |

The president signaled that he favors renewing the ban by saying that weapons designed for soldiers at war do not belong on our streets. Then he swerved away to the importance of better law enforcement, good schools and faith groups that work with inner-city children.
That was pretty much it for the guns, except that Obama did call for getting automatic weapons that kill folks in amazing numbers out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. Actually, automatic weapons, like machine guns, are already heavily regulated. Although, in a different world, we would be discussing why theyre in the country at all.
Ed.: OMG, an anti-gunner that actually knows the difference between semi-auto and automatic weapons! |

Is the presidential election at a tipping point?
The recent national poll from Gallup indicates that Mitt Romney has taken a sharp lead in the national polls after two debates.
Now the pundits are arguing over whether the poll is critically flawed. Others are pointing to the poll as evidence that Romney may over-perform in the raw national vote number while still losing the Electoral College. Certainly, other polls of swing states find the gap between the candidates is smaller. |

Following a weekend that saw more people shot in Chicago than have been killed in Seattle so far for the entire year, one gets a sense that people who think the Jet City is getting more dangerous should spend a couple of days in the Windy City.
During last weeks debate on domestic issues, Barack Obama admitted that he would like to renew the ban on so-called assault weapons, but almost in the same breath he blamed much of the violence on cheap handguns. Many in the firearms community took that as a hint that if Obama is re-elected, he will take the gloves off on guns, except, perhaps, for those sent south of the border on his watch, and under the nose of his attorney general. |

Prosecutors have decided not to file criminal charges against a man suspected of stabbing one man to death and seriously injured another during a street fight after authorities determined that he acted in self-defense, police said Monday.
...
The two men from the bus stop were interviewed by homicide investigators Friday night. Authorities have determined that neither of them had gang ties.
Prosecutors from the Orange County District Attorney's Office have determined that the man suspected of carrying out the stabbing acted in self-defense and that Estrada and the other man in the Cherokee had initiated the confrontation, Bertagna said. |

On November 1st, 2012, the amended Oklahoma Self Defense Act (SDA) takes effect, which will permit citizens licensed under the SDA to carry authorized firearms in plain view. By adopting this measure, Oklahoma becomes the 44th state to allow open carry in some manner. The new open carry law, however, also establishes limits for those choosing to carry a firearm in full view. |

Whether any evidence dug up by Zimmermans defense team ever makes it to the media or the public will be up to Judge Nelson. But the ruling opens up a major new break in whats shaping up to be an emotional, heart-wrenching trial that will explore not just Zimmermans guilt, but the extent to which race played into both Zimmermans actions and decisions by police in the aftermath.
I have had anecdotal evidence that there were videos out there suggesting that [Martin] involved himself in MMA (mixed martial arts) fighting, he had an experience level with that, Mark OMara, Zimmermans attorney, said after Fridays court hearing. I think the judge hit it on head that reputation for violence is an issue in this case. |

Illinois is the only state in the nation that doesnt "allow" citizens to legally carry a concealed weapon. Yet Chicago, with 401 homicides in 2012 by Oct. 9, has more murders caused by gunfire than any other major metropolitan area in the country.
Rather than restore residents' Second Amendment right to own a weapon for personal protection -- as the city was commanded to do by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2010's McDonald v. Chicago ruling -- city politicians want to tax away violence by imposing a levy on all ammunition sold in Cook County. |

While its refreshing to see the Left criticize President Obama, its disappointing that it only relates to gun control and involves a tired rehashing of the same shopworn arguments liberals have been using to curb Second Amendment rights.
What's more, her anti-gun diatribe is really watered down when she offered that the president did a good job at last weeks debate, cautioning that he should just be mindful not to bring up issues that can split the base. |

While the White House and general media may believe the DoJ Inspector Generals report on ATFs Fast and Furious fiasco puts an end to further questions, congressional investigators are far from satisfied.
Dave Workmans report in the Second Amendment Foundations monthly magazine, TheGunMag.com, November 2012 issue, explains that the IGs report did not answer all the questions. In fact, the 512-page report revealed that Attorney General Holder should have known what was happening, but didnt. TGM says congressional probing will continue. |
