The future is now ... well, as far as firearms go, anyway. Sci-fi fans know that, all too often, futuristic films feature heroes wielding blasters forged from unobtainium. Their pistols and revolvers are either highly customized, like the full-auto Berretta 92FS used by the Grammaton Clerics (Equilibrium, 2002), or they are based on hard-to-find guns, like Han Solo's scoped Mauser C96 (Star Wars franchise). Either way, their rarity or expensive custom work commands exorbitant prices.

The rise, fall and rebirth of the 10mm pistol round would be a great Hollywood movie. Created in the wake of the infamous 1986 FBI Miami shootout, the 10mm round filled a perceived need for a more powerful pistol cartridge that could deliver fight-stopping hits on demand. When the cartridge was placed into service, however, it proved to be a bit too powerful for common use, and was soon replaced with the smaller .40 S&W round.

Refinishing the metalwork of a firearm is not as complicated as you might think, and the options have changed over the years. In days past, you needed bluing tanks and all the toxic chemicals that process entailed. While bluing is still an excellent way to finish a rifle, the hobby gunsmith will likely have better results with spray-on coatings. In fact, with the stainless steel guns so popular today, a spray-on coating is the one of the few options for a new finish.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. Samuel Adams
