A new Rasmussen survey shows more likely voters trust Republicans (49%) more than Democrats (38%) to handle crime and law enforcement issues.

By no small coincidence, this poll might be good news in a gubernatorial race in Washington state, where former King County sheriff and former seven-term Congressman Dave Reichert is running as a Republican in a state that hasnt elected a Republican gubernatorial candidate in nearly four decades.

The Supreme Court of the United States declined to intervene Friday in response to an emergency application seeking the High Court to act in favor of Missouris Second Amendment Preservation Act.

The Supreme Court declined to get involved while the appeals process is playing out; such decisions not to intervene have been common when gun legislation is on an appeals path that could result in it being brought before the High Court at a future time.

Despite the invitation by the Illinois State Police to gun owners holding semi-automatic firearms that will become illegal to own on January 1, 2024 to register them, scarcely 4,600 of the more than 2.4 million holding FOID (firearms owner ID) cards have accepted the invitation. The bill, which Illinois Governor JG Pritzker eagerly signed into law in January, was immediately challenged by numerous parties, including gun owners, gun dealers, and pro-Second Amendment political action groups. It bans the possession of more than 170 different types of semi-automatic weapons, but provides a legacy loophole.

Its hard to overstate John Moses Brownings impact on the early evolution of the self-loading pistol. In the closing decade of the 19th century, he inked two momentous deals. The first one, in 1896, gave Colt the exclusive rights to sell JMBs pistol designs in the United States and the British Isles. This was quickly followed by a deal inked with Fabrique Nationale of Herstal, Belgium, giving them the exclusive rights to Browning designs in most of Europe. Significantly, it prevented Browning designs initially bought by FN from being sold in the U.S. and United Kingdom.
