A local man who was shot yesterday will likely face charges after he pinned his former landlord against an apartment building with his car.
The landlord shot the man twice and struck him at least once and will not face any charges.
However the driver of the car will likely face multiple charges of felonious assault.
According to Dayton police, at 4:43 p.m. Saturday, the landlord of an apartment complex at 317 N. Smithville Road called police to report that a former resident was trespassing on his property.
In response, the man drove around the interior of the apartment complex, running over grass, knocking over trash cans and a picnic table and nearly striking a few residents. |

"Analysis of an Associated Press report released over the weekend shows that Americans need to be able to defend themselves and others from terrorist attacks right here within the United States," gun rights expert John Snyder said here today.
Snyder cited an AP article stating that "a U.S.-born spokesman for al-Qaida on Saturday urged Muslims living in the United States and Europe to carry out attacks there, calling it a duty and an obligation."
Snyder said that, "Law-abiding American citizens must be able to get, carry and use firearms needed for self-defense without unnecessary legal encumbrances. This includes handguns." |

There may be momentum for expanding the rights of law-abiding gun owners in New Jersey.
With unprecedented police department layoffs across the state, especially in urban communities, authorities anticipate response times will increase and crime-prevention initiatives will be the first law enforcement services cut.
Next year's 2 percent property tax cap will decrease the number of police officers in the state by 30 percent, says state Policemen's Benevolent Association President Tony Wieners.
From Jan. 1, 2009 through October, 12 percent of local police officers in the state were laid off or retired, he said. |

Of course, the idea of armed schoolkids is not so far from reality. Following school shootings, gun advocates invariably argue that armed teachers might have prevented such massacres and some feel they have a point. And it's not so much of a leap in logic to move from there to the notion of arming the actual kids -- with proper training, of course.
That's what goes on here. A father named Wayne (John Arthur Lewis) channels his personal pain into the idea of teaching kids to use firearms in self-defense Wayne's main opposition is a schoolteacher named James (John Ferrick), and the flashpoints for this adult debate, literally, are a pair of youngsters named Justin (Andrew Raia) and Mick (Nick DiLeonardi). |

From the Florida Times-Union: Michael Brown, 22, of Darien, was arrested on armed robbery and burglary charges after being treated and released for a gunshot wound to the arm at Southeast Georgia Health Systems Brunswick hospital, police Capt. Marissa Tindale said.
Thomas Daniels and April McMillan, both 18, were arrested on the identical charges.
Thats pretty much it. Keylin Jones, 22, and his girlfriend, Keshuana Lassiter, 23, came home on Thursday night to find their apartment being burgled. Jones pulled a gun, fired once, the trio left. |

The National Rifle Association wanted a "shoot first" society, and now it has one with its "stand your ground" law. Our position remains the same: This law is a fraud and has nothing to do with self-defense.
Our old self-defense law had worked well from 1885 to 2005, when suddenly the NRA not law enforcement, prosecutors or our courts demanded a law that took Florida from a "duty to retreat" state to a "shoot first" state.
What was behind this new law? The answer had nothing to do with self-defense. The NRA wanted to protect gun owners from prosecution when they used guns when not facing an armed predator. |

I once heard a staunch liberal ask Russ Feingold about the Second Amendment. Feingold replied that he believed our founding fathers were revolutionaries who wanted individuals to have the ability to revolt again if necessary. When faced with a vote on the Patriot Act, which he believed contained unconstitutional provisions, Feingold cast the lone dissenting vote because he honored his oath to uphold the Constitution. |

Of particular interest to many of your readers is our right to firearm ownership.
The recent Heller and McDonald Supreme Court decisions affirming an individuals right to bear arms were decided by 5-to-4 votes That means that four Americans, Supreme Court justices, do not believe that the Second Amendment says what it clearly does.
Couple this near-disaster with the administrations cooperation with the United Nations to advance the trade treaty on gun control and it becomes clear that our rights are in the balance.
The common factor here is that the United States Senate must approve Supreme Court nominees and international treaties. |

Taylor wants a smaller government, with less intervention from other states.
I simply feel that the state level has just become totally unsustainable, he said. It is too big.
Taylor wants to impose laws against sting operations by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a coalition co-founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, to limit intervention from outside the state. Not only would it protect our Second Amendment rights, it will also protect state sovereignty, Taylor said. |

The Randy Hultgren for Congress campaign issued the following statement today regarding Hultgren's endorsement by the National Rifle Association, a national organization with more than 21,000 members in the 14th Congressional District.
"The National Rife Association is among the nation's most respected and influential sportsmen's organizations, and has always been an outspoken defender of our Second Amendment rights; I am proud and honored to have received their endorsement," said Randy Hultgren. "I've fought to defend the Second Amendment rights of Illinoisans in Springfield, and I look forward to fighting for the Second Amendment rights of all Illinoisans in Washington, DC." |

A 4-year-old girl fatally wounded Saturday near Wickenburg was accidentally shot by her 8-year-old sister, authorities said.
The 8-year-old was target-shooting with a .22-caliber rifle and her parents in the open desert between Wickenburg and Morristown, said Jeff Sprong, a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
"There were two families in that area doing some target-shooting practice," Sprong said. "The 8-year-old was practicing on a .22-caliber firearm. While she was shooting, the 4-year-old darted out in front of her." |

My husband and I proudly write this letter of support for Laurie Sanborn and Mark Lindsley, who are running for state representative for Henniker and Bradford. We have known both candidates for a number of years and feel we could not have a better choice for representative.
Laurie and Mark are strong Second Amendment supporters and will reduce our taxes when they are elected. The current Democratic representatives have been in office since the 1990s, and we must ask ourselves if we are better off now than then? We say No. No, we are not better off. No, the 80-plus taxes supported by the current representatives are not in working families' interest. No, we are not better off with more regulation on everyday life. |

Republican candidate for the 7th Congressional District Ilario Pantano held a campaign fundraiser at a shooting range in Brunswick County yesterday. The event was called a steel challenge and attendees brought pistols, bullets, and their checkbooks.
...
"Well thank you very much. Thank you. Are you the gentleman that's here with NPR? I don't have a comment for NPR, so I'm gonna be speaking to everybody else."
When another reporter asked about the comment, Pantano said he doesn't like seeing censorship and politically correct behavior by organizations that receive public money.
More specifically, he says he doesn't agree with how NPR handled last week's firing of former news analyst Juan Williams. |

According to two witnesses, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia took fellow Justice Elena Kagan out for a lesson in skeet shooting at his shooting club in Virginia last week.
The witnesses saw Scalia at the Fairfax Rod and Gun Club, where he is a member, around noon on Wednesday of last week. He was with a woman who was noticeably diminutive in height, like Kagan, who stands at about five feet three inches. The witnesses, who got a very close look at the pair, say that the woman was the newest Supreme Court Justice.
Scalia was bending down in order to teach Kagan how to hold the shotgun, the witnesses say, and the pair were shooting skeet. |

With NRA's November magazines containing our Political Preference Charts arriving across the country this week, we are again receiving questions regarding some of our candidate grades and endorsements. Many of the questions are about our support for pro-gun Democratic incumbents. Our policies, and the justifications for our candidate ratings, have been explained many times in the Grassroots Alert and elsewhere.
This election year there is a lot of anger directed at the policies of Congress and the Obama Administration.
One of the main concerns is over politicians from both parties who have abandoned their principles. |

Advocates for those who hunt and fish say a ballot proposition that would establish a constitutional right to those sports in Arizona is long overdue.
There's material in the constitution about timber, about mining, about a lot of what affects the outdoors, said Tom Mackin, president of the Arizona Wildlife Federation. But there's not one word in there about wildlife, and we felt that it's imperative to change that.
Proposition 109 would guarantee Arizonans the right to hunt, fish and harvest wildlife lawfully. It would prohibit any law or rule that unreasonably restricts hunting or fishing using traditional means. |

Of course I didnt understand this to be a literal reference to firearms or anything like that, but at the same time I found it a good segue for discussing the much bandied issue of violence.
When I came to Venezuela, the first thing that struck me when going out into the street was the presence of a pair of soldiers walking along with us carrying large automatic weapons, the kind Id seen only in movies or museums. Like anyone whos not accustomed to having such armaments so close, a light anxiety came over me. Whenever there exists an arm, there also exists the possibility of it being firedof someone being injured. |

Are Columbia residents safer when police deploy a Taser than when an officer has to get into an all-out brawl with someone resisting arrest?
Those are questions voters might consider Nov. 2 when they decide whether the use of conducted electrical devices, or CEDs, should be banned in the city. The issue comes to voters after a grass-roots organization and the city couldnt reach common ground when it comes to the safety of Taser use.
People for a Taser-Free Columbia the group seeking the ban and those who support Tasers as a law enforcement tool each have data and anecdotal evidence to support their cases. |

"Who (besides rabid anti-gunners who preach denial and avoidance to 'feel safe,' of course) could be against gun safety training? Especially in a state with so many gun owners carrying openly and concealed?"
"And who has authority to interfere in freedom of expression this way?"
"Apparently Assistant Phoenix city attorney Ted Mariscal thinks he does." |
