Investigators in Weakley County, Tennessee call a deadly shooting there an act of self-defense. According to Captain Randall McGowan, deputies responded to a home on Hyndsver Road around 10 p.m. on Sunday, October 23. They found Stephen Delauter, 45, dead in the upstairs bedroom of the house. With the plethora of commentary and news about the upcoming election next month, I want to make a few minor predictions. Now of course some of you who are more firearms-community-savvy than others will think these are common sense, but for most these thoughts will seem strange.
If you see HRC getting elected, what will happen that day? The prices and availability of firearms will explode. While prices will go up like they have a few times in the past (an AR-15 that goes for $800 will go for over $1500) I think availability will be the hardest hit, with sales skyrocketing and guns flying off shelves. |

Perhaps unintentionally, the Los Angeles Times on Monday explained in simple, matter-of-fact language how anti-rights gun prohibitionists have successfully eroded the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, laying bare the strategy they will continue to use until the right to keep and bear arms, and the liberty that right represents, have been erased.

Passing on the tradition of protecting the great outdoors has always been the mission of the Almond Rod and Gun Club. On Saturday, the club held its annual Turkey Shoot, which featured a visit from state Sen. Catharine Young (R-Olean). The all-day affair pitted six shooters at a time against one another for the prize of a turkey. The marksman nearest to the center of the bullseye would take home the bird. |

A rise in shootings on college campuses has added a new front in the gun debate, centering on this question: does it hurt, or help, to have more armed people at school? Eight states allow people to carry concealed weapons on the grounds of public colleges and universities, based on the belief that criminals will be less likely to open fire if they know they might be confronted by someone else with a gun. Texas became the latest this year, and there is a growing movement to expand the list. |

Gun owners in Texas now have a better means to keep track of anti-gun establishments through a website and mobile app called Texas3006. With 12,000 users as resources, the site and app allow gun owners to report non-gun permissive environments within the state. The site has logged 9,500 entries so far. The watchlist, which notifies those who register of newly posted signs, has sent out over 150,000 notices this month alone, founder Russell Jones told Guns.com. |

City police and prosecutors have for the last several years preached the need to get "bad guys with guns" off the streets and have announced assorted special efforts to do so, from a "war room" to the recent creation of a new joint unit pairing experienced personnel from the police department and state's attorney's office. Police report they are making far more gun arrests, yet we are poised to exceed 300 homicides for the second year in a row, a rate of killing not seen here since the 1990s.

Unless the city pays to have metal detectors and guards at the entrances, about 50 public buildings will have to allow concealed firearms once a new state law goes into effect. As the date draws closer, city leaders are examining options. Because of disparate locations that so many of our operations are in, to try to provide security would be an overwhelming and hugely expensive task to accomplish, said City Manager Tom Markus. The state has handed us a fairly large challenge in that regard.
