Lobron was just one participant in a four-part course taught by members of Penn State Police and the Center for Women Students. The Rape Aggression Defense course -- offered over the course of 12 hours at the Weston Community Center -- is broken down into four three-hour sessions, in which participants listen to a lecture and practice defensive maneuvers.

The course is designed to teach women to "make informed decisions and learn to protect themselves," Penn State Police Officer Rebecca Bywater said.

Ed.: Just don't even *think* about using a firearm to defend yourself.

Lee Zeidler was calm as he spoke to the women, each armed with a pistol, ready to fire. They stood nervously on the line at the Caledonia Sportsman's Club pistol range. The pungent smell of gunpowder hung in the air.

They were a mixed group of women, from their early 20s to mid-60s, all prepared mentally and emotionally for the next step.

Most had come to learn how to defend themselves. Others feared losing that right some time in the future.

"Get the gun up. Take a breath. Halfway out, hold it, and you will have a nice, steady shot," Zeidler said in the practiced way of a National Rifle Association-certified gun instructor.

NJ: Anti-Christie ad wrong about guns

This letter is in reference to a new TV ad that criticizes Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie for siding with the National Rifle Association on armor-piercing rifles.

There is no such thing as an armor-piercing rifle. There is armor-piercing ammunition, which is manufactured in many different calibers for many different types of weapons. This ammunition is already banned in the State of New Jersey.

To ban all rifles that have the capability to fire this type of ammunition would, in reality, ban many weapons, hunting rifles included.

In a recent editorial ("Horrifying," Oct. 7), the Gazette decried the repeating tragedy of West Virginians murdered by a spouse or loved one. The latest figures I have seen indicate that, on average, two-dozen victims of domestic violence are killed by an intimate partner in our state each and every year.

Between October 2008 and September 2009, 24 people have already lost their lives to acts of domestic violence. The editorial accurately described a solution to this madness as "elusive" and "extremely difficult."

Today Congressman Joe Sestak (PA-07) voted for, and the House passed, H.R. 3619, the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2010. If the Senate considers the bill, this legislation will be the first full Coast Guard reauthorization enacted since 2006.

...

Title X-United States mariner protection

Title X of H.R. 3619 amends title 46 to guarantee to U.S. mariners the traditional use of self defense to enable them to protect themselves and their vessels against piracy.

Congratulations!

You have stymied the shady tactics used by Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi to try to pass the ObamaCare bill and -- in the opening salvo of the battle -- you blew them out of the water.

Gun Owners won a huge vote Wednesday in the Senate.

As you remember, the ObamaCare bill would dump your gun-related health data into a federal database. It would also put your (government mandated) insurance at risk if you keep a loaded gun for self-defense.

But there was a problem: The anti-gun health bills cost too much, and Obama had promised to pass a bill which would not raise the deficit by one penny.

Sacramentans are arming themselves in increasing numbers, statistics from the Sacramento County Sheriff reveal.

Applications approved by the sheriff to carry a concealed weapon have increased more than 500 percent from 2008, statistics show. By September 30, the department had approved 37 applications to carry a concealed weapon, compared with six approved applications in 2008.

The sheriff also has been denying applications in increasing numbers: 25 applications were denied by September 30, compared with 10 permit denials in 2008. Overall, the sheriff had approved or denied 62 concealed weapon permits by October, nearly four times as many as had been processed through 2008.

The Heller decision doesn't necessarily apply to you as an Ohio citizen. The ruling only applies to the Federal government's ability to restrict handguns. It is as yet undetermined whether the right to own a firearm extends to the citizens of states. The Supreme Court recently decided to hear an Illinois case with purpose to settle that issue.

The Fourteenth Amendment assures that the individual states cannot preempt rights guaranteed by the federal government. Illinois, for example, cannot restrict speech in a way that violates the federal right to speak freely. As of now, Illinois can, and does, ban handguns.

In early October, the Second Maine Militia opened its meeting with the traditional shooting of the televisions. The 50 or so "members" (there are no rolls and no one pays dues) chatted quietly as the blasts rang out. A small cannon was fired into the woods, parting the trees and shaking the windows of the house nearby.

But no real televisions were harmed. The sets were just cardboard boxes painted with inane smiley faces and decorated with slogans like "Feel good!" "Proud to be USA!" "Safe in the homeland!" The aluminum-foil antennas, however, did collapse miserably from the real gunfire.

A group of Adopt a Highway volunteers were packing more than trash along the shoulder of Minnesota 55 in Mendota Heights on Sunday morning.

With legal guns on their hips, a dozen area residents spent nearly three hours picking up litter everything from cigarette butts to blown-out tires along a 2-mile stretch of the highway just east of the Mendota Bridge. It was the inaugural event for the group, which registered with the Minnesota Department of Transportation's Adopt a Highway program under the name Minnesota Carry Permit Holders.

"We believe this is the safest stretch of road right now in the state," said Jason Walberg, who collected trash with a Springfield XD .40-caliber, semi-automatic handgun clipped to his belt.

Closer to home, a case in Oregon challenges whether the Oregon University System has been given the explicit authority to ban firearms on campus that are legally carried by a person with a Concealed Handgun License. The University System knows they overstepped their legal limits when they issued the ban, because they requested that the legislature address this issue in the 2010 special legislative session.

The legislature should not address this issue in the "special session." The case should be allowed to work its way through the legal system. Oregonians have the right to legally carry firearms to protect themselves.

Earlier in the spring, the Department of Homeland Security circulated a document warning law enforcement of an alleged threat posed by "domestic rightwing terrorists." Included in the group of potential terrorists were individuals who are pro-life, support the Second Amendment and oppose the flood of illegal aliens. The DHS pamphlet also singled out military veterans as possible domestic terrorists in-waiting.

"A few interested readers asked me about sending the respective campaigns the Gun Rights Political Questionnaire, to see if it could be useful in further defining the level of understanding and commitment the candidates have for the right to keep and bear arms. I did, and let the campaigns know I would make their responses available to readers here."

Since 2000, Kanawha County has issued 13,272 five-year permits to carry concealed pistols, according to Lt. Rick Rose in the sheriff's department. Cabell County has issued perhaps 4,000 in that period. Statewide, the grand total probably is over 100,000.

Presumably, all those West Virginia pistol-packers carry hidden guns because they think it makes them safer. But a new federal study concludes that people with concealed pistols are four times more likely to be shot than unarmed people.

Published in the American Journal of Public Health, the study funded by the National Institutes of Health examined 3,485 shootings in Philadelphia between 2003 and 2006. (The fact that 3,485 Philadelphians were shot in three years tells an ugly reality about America.)

The chances are pretty good that as you read these words, paramilitary attacks -- commonly described as "no-knock raids" -- are either being planned or executed somewhere in the U.S. Typically carried out by the military units called SWAT or tactical teams, those raids are generally triggered by a tip from a "confidential informant" -- a paid snitch -- and subsidized with federal funds, often through the "Justice" Department's Byrne Grant program.

Those who advocate gun control as a means of enslaving the people will never be influenced by an intellectual argument, presentation of facts and figures, or a simple plea to do that which is right. Those who are influenced into making decisions based on their emotions are now being motivated by a stronger emotion: fear, the fear that what we have been telling them for years is true.

Thats what the Kansas Supreme Court just held, interpreting Kansas Stats. 213211.

...the court concluded that while this allows self-defense that involves an actual attack on the attacker for instance, hitting, shooting, or stabbing the attacker it does not allow self-defense that merely involves a threat of violence against the attacker.

A San Jose police spokesman says officers are being investigated for possible criminal conduct after officials viewed a video that shows an unarmed university student repeatedly being hit with batons and a Taser gun.

The cell phone video shows one officer hitting 20-year-old Phuong Ho with a metal baton more than 10 times. Another officer is seen using his Taser gun on the San Jose State math major.

Several police experts told the paper the video shows the officers using excessive and possibly illegal force.

Ho was arrested in the incident last month on suspicion of assaulting another of his roommates. He was not armed when police arrived.

The conclusion for libertarians, therefore, is that they ought to measure their actions and intentions against the yardstick of convincing the general population that the state is intrinsically murderous and unnecessary.

Submitter's note: It is necessary that the majority of the people do not support the State, not that they form alliance with the State's adversaries. Deny the State enough support, and it falls, as per de la Boetie and Bastiat. Active resistance to the State may be necessary.

The term social engineering never fit an entity better than it does the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). This intrusive, tenacious organization has spent years attempting to recast and transform American society to fit its own peculiar ideals. Its directors are missionaries in the full sense of the word, in that they relentlessly work to stamp onto the hearts and minds of the public a distinctive belief system, which teaches what is evil and what is not.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Foolish liberals who are trying to read the Second Amendment out of the Constitution by claiming it's not an individual right or that it's too much of a public safety hazard don't see the danger in the big picture. They're courting disaster by encouraging others to use the same means to eliminate portions of the constitution they don't like. Alan Dershowitz
