Our view of violence is wildly distorted. We dont know the truth, but I think we can handle it.
In the USA today, we think TV shows and the news represent reality. They arent. Instead of the truth, the news media feeds us the preferred biases of their selected audience spiced with titillating and emotionally charged subjects like violence and sexual scandal. That formula sells soap, but it is also selling us a dangerous brew of politics.
That witches-brew of lies could get our children killed. |

A package of bills in the state house could enact so-called red-flag laws that allow law enforcement to take away firearms from people who could be a risk to themselves or others.
The legislation has been sitting in the senate since February but now bill sponsors say they have been promised a hearing.
Similar laws have or will soon be enacted in 18 other states including Illinois and Connecticut. The laws have been posited as way to reduce mass shootings, domestic violence and suicide.
According to a 2018 study, red flag laws are responsible for a 14 percent decline in firearm suicides in Connecticut and a 7 percent decline in Indiana.

A: A few things, but the biggest is that a license to carry now is optional.
Among other provisions, the main change under House Bill 2597 is that the Self-Defense Act no longer requires Oklahomans who are 21 years old or veterans or military who are 18 and over to obtain a permit at a cost $100 for five years or $200 for 10, which required a training certificate that showed basic knowledge of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act and an ability to handle a firearm safely, proof of residency or permanent military orders to be in the state, a background check and fingerprinting. |

Theres ax throwing, zombie hunting, indoor shooting range, archery targets and much more at Shooters Corner, a new business in Pratt put together by local businessman Dale Withers and accomplices. All venues will be open November 1 except for the indoor shooting range, which will open as part of a grand opening celebration 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Monday, December 2.
We really just wanted to create a place where we could educate kids about how to properly use guns and provide something to do. We needed a place where old folks could have some fun too, all with a high emphasis on safety, said former Pratt Chief of Police Gary Myers who will be managing the business. |

As personalities go, Gabbard appeals to a vast majority. But in terms of policy, she is as radical as the rest of the Democratic presidential hopefuls.
While she does support Second Amendment rights, Gabbard is a vocal proponent of banning assault-style weapons. As a co-sponsor of H.R. 5087, introduced in the House last year, she is publicly acknowledging her belief that removing certain weapons would be a fruitful and productive step in the fight against gun violence. |

There was quite a bit of interest in my column from last week about mastering the double-action revolver, so I thought Id follow up with another revolver tip regarding ammo management.
From examining actual shootings, we know that most citizen-involved shooting are resolved with the ammunition in the defensive handgun. However, most is not all, so armed citizens should plan for the exceptional scenario. This is one of the reasons that we recommend a person carry at least one reload, regardless of the type of defensive handgun he or she carries. However, with the revolver, I choose to carry a minimum of two reloads and suggest that you do the same. |
Are you packin'? If so, you've got a lot of company!

Gun control advocates are avoiding this like an ugly dog: The Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) recently released its 2019 update on concealed carry in the United States, and its not the kind of news the anti-self-defense crowd cares to acknowledge.
According to the CPRC, the number of people with concealed carry licenses or permits increased by about 1.4 million. This spike brought the total estimated number of licensed citizens to 18.66 million, a whopping 304 -percent increase over the past 12 years. |
