"The National Rifle Association says the mayoral efforts are too much talk and too little action." ...

"It's real simple. If you want to get crime off your streets, get criminals off your streets,' LaPierre said. ..."

"'Walk down to Town Hall and tell your prosecuting attorneys that from now on, no plea bargains ... A drug dealer caught with a gun goes to jail. A violent felon caught with a gun goes to jail. Discharge a gun in commission of a felony, go to jail. Smuggle a gun, go to jail. If you do that, if you stop talking and start acting, your violent crime rate will drop 30 to 40 to 50 percent in one year."

"During a visit from Ryan Harmon, who is running against our state representative, John Piotti, I mentioned that I am a strong advocate of gun rights. He gave me the clear impression that Piotti is in favor of more gun control and had voted in a way that showed this."

"The scenario appears to have played out for real this past weekend in the Waterbury area, when two civilians - both apparently armed - were allowed to participate in a sweep of suspected deadbeat dads."

"The involvement of the untrained civilians wasn't the only problem with the raids, however. There is also concern that the state marshals did not receive weapons training from a certified instructor as required by state regulations." ...

However, my purpose here is not to advocate lifting the ban, but to encourage and inform the debate."
