A pair of crooks picked the wrong Milford home to break into. They weren't attacked by the family dog or confronted by the police. Instead, they were confronted by a 13-year old boy.
Josh Cichy came home Friday night to two men trying to rob his house. That's when the teen went straight for his spotlight, an airsoft pistol and his shotgun to scare them away. |

While Americans are still wary of making big purchases such as a new home, they are investing heavily in guns and ammunition. The sales are off the charts and this may have something to do with why the Founding Fathers, after protecting free speech, free press, and the right to peacefully assemble to protest, made the right to keep and bear guns the Second Amendment.
Right after 9/11 Americans similarly went out and bought guns and ammunition. When Americans get scared, they get guns. The first months of the Obama administration have given many cause for concern that this president harbors totalitarian dreams. |

Drivers on Interstate 70 can barely see the billboard but once they do the message has been gaining attention. The billboard is located along I-70 between the Adams Dairy Parkway and the Grain Valley exits. The billboard reads, "How do you like your change now? Obama Nation. They are coming for you! The Taxpayer. First and Second Amendments are in jeopardy. Live free or Die." There is also a hammer and sickle on the sign. |

AN APPLE fanboy who was upset that his Iphone didn't work threatened to execute the gadget in front of a bemused black shirted Apple staff member.
...
We're not quite sure that the aggravated menacing charge will stick. After all, he only threatened to shoot the Iphone, which technically isn't protected by the US Constitution. ...
We would have thought that if the US wanted to protect Iphones from people pissed off by them breaking down or exploding, then it would have to remove the Second Amendment from the US Constitution's Bill of Rights entirely.
Give lots of people guns, Iphones and the AT&T network, and sooner or later an Iphone will be so smug or useless it will get plugged. |

The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, the state's largest and nation's oldest Second Amendment civil rights organization, announces the endorsement of Essex County Judge Richard B. Meyer for State Supreme Court in the 4th Judicial District. Our endorsement is based upon his record of fairly treating pistol license applicants as the Essex County licensing agent. Our membership views this as one of their primary concerns when considering judicial candidates and we believe Judge Meyer has performed objectively and without bias. NYSRPA urges all concerned gun owners to support Richard B. Meyer in the November 3 general election. |

A federal appeals court may have slapped the Federal Bureau of Investigation last year for its misuse of gag orders to prevent discussion of government investigations conducted under the authority of National Security Letters, but that hasn't slowed the feds very much. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, despite a court's finding that such gag orders are constitutionally suspect and should be subject to judicial review, the FBI continues to muzzle recipients of the controversial letters, preventing them from participating in public debate over the Patriot Act and the security state.

The Supreme Court agrees to decide if the Second Amendment applies to all of us, or just Washington, D.C. Why would the Founders put in the Bill of Rights something applying only to a federal enclave?
In a 5-4 decision last year written by Justice Antonin Scalia, the Supreme Court overturned a draconian District of Columbia gun ban enacted 32 years ago that barred private ownership of handguns at all. Scalia wrote that an individual's right to bear arms is supported by "the historical narrative" both before and after the Second Amendment was adopted. |

Its going to happen.
Gun rights activist and former Afton resident David E. Olson of Glenwood City has announced that an Open Carry Tea Party will be held the afternoon of Oct. 17, a Saturday, at Lakefront Park in Hudson, Wis.
The purpose of the event is for people to exercise their First Amendment rights to free speech and assembly and their Second Amendment rights to own and carry firearms, Olson said.
After holding an open carry event in Glenwood City on Aug. 23, Olson told other media outlets that he was planning a similar event for Hudson in mid-October.
A Web site with information about the Hudson event, www.donotinfringe.org, urges people to: Come exercise your liberties affirmed by the 1st and 2nd Amendments. ... |

The U.S. Supreme Court announced today (9-30-09) that it will hear the case of McDonald v. City of Chicago, and decide whether the right to keep and bear arms secured by the Second Amendment protects Americans from overreaching state and local governments.
At issue is a 27-year-old Chicago law banning handguns, requiring the annual taxation of firearms, and otherwise interfering with the right of law-abiding individuals to keep guns at home for self-defense. The case was brought on behalf of four Chicago residents, the Second Amendment Foundation, and the Illinois State Rifle Association.

It has been only a year and a season since the Supreme Court shook the world of Second Amendment jurisprudence with the historical D.C. v. Heller decision. The court declared for the first time that the 2nd Amendment protects an individual right to bear arms against infringement by the federal governmentat least commonly used arms, for self-defense in the home.
Heller opened the gates for a flood of new lawsuits by gun-rights friendly attorneys and organizations, most prominently the NRA and the Second Amendment Foundation. One of those cases, McDonald v. Chicago, challenging a gun ban in Chicago that's similar in most respects to the D.C. gun laws overturned in Heller, has just been taken up by the Supreme Court.

The man with the gun shouted at Volk to give him money from the register. That's when Volk noticed the gun looked fake.
I realized right away it was not a real gun because of the barrel shape, the 42-year-old Army veteran said. I was not as scared as if it had been a real gun.
Volk said he managed to reach down and pop the emergency alarm right as the robber sprayed him in the eye with mace.
It really burned, Volk said. I couldn't see out of that eye.
Volk then learned the hard way that the robber's gun was a pellet gun. |

Last week, columnist Steve Robinson lamented about "the ever encroaching threat of gun control ("If you want my guns, you'll have to take my bullets first," September 25). In it, he argued that the mantra of the NRA, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people," made a lot of sense, and I think he's right. We can't blame our nation's crime rates on the existence of guns and assume that only regulating guns more heavily will fix the problem. But the NRA's mantra is also true when understood like this: "Guns don't kill people, people kill people with guns." Conservative thinkers always forget that crime happens "with guns" and that school shootings are executed "with guns." |

The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear an important Second Amendment case challenging the constitutionality of Chicago's gun ban ordinance.
Last year we praised the Supreme Court's 5-4 ruling that the Constitutional right of the people to bear arms actually belongs to those people, not merely the state they inhabit. The case then was District of Columbia v. Heller, and the ruling was that federal laws prohibiting citizens from owning handguns are unconstitutional under the Second Amendment. We knew then that cities with similar bans would also be challenged the suit had already been filed in Chicago. |

I took a quick look at the U.S. Supreme Court docket. I'm not a lawyer, but a quick glance showed there are some life-changing cases before the court.
For example, Abbott vs. Abbott, which is apparently a case of custody and the right of a parent to take a child out of a country and away from another parent.
Despite all these important issues before the Supreme Court, the court decided there is no more important issue than the rights of gun owners in Chicago to carry their guns in the city. What's next, a Supreme Court challenge for the right to carry a concealed gun aboard an airplane? |

" If you doubt the misanthropic nature of government workers, go into a post office, the DMV, or an IRS office; or confront a police officer or customs agent; or pass through the phalanx of TSA employees at an airport, and watch for any any signs of joy or love for the humanity with which they must deal. And why should you expect otherwise? Why should those who are able to coerce, threaten, and manipulate you with both impunity and immunity from consequences, be expected to show you more respect than you exhibit on your own behalf in your willingness to put up with their incivility?" |

Will the U.S. Supreme Court act differently now that it has two female justices again?
How much will replacing a Republican presidents appointee with a Democratic presidents shift the court?
Dahlia Lithwick, an insightful regular of the Supreme Court press corps, wrote in Newsweek recently that its clear that Justice Sonia Sotomayors substitution for Justice David Souter "will do nothing to alter the balance of the court."
But, at the risk of sounding dated, not even her hairdresser knows for sure.
What is certain is that there are potential blockbusters on the docket for the term that opens Monday. And the court raised the stakes last week by taking on a case that challenges gun bans in Chicago and Oak Park, Ill. |

Mayors Against Illegal Guns is a coalition of more than 450 mayors, including Yvonne Johnson. Now, she is coming under fire for her affiliation.
...
Johnson said Greensboro Police Chief Tim Bellamy and Guilford County Sheriff B.J. Barnes supported her decision to join the coalition. In spite of receiving nearly 100 e-mails urging her to drop out of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, she plans to remain a part of the coalition.
"I would stand up for their Second Amendment rights any day, and I'll also stand up for Illegal Guns any day," said Johnson. |

In its first orders granting certiorari for the new term beginning Oct. 5, the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to consider whether the Second Amendment applies to the states.
The court will review the Seventh Circuits holding in NRA v. City of Chicago (PDF), 567 F.3d 856 (7th Cir. 2009), rejecting a challenge to municipal ordinances in Chicago and Oak Park, Ill., which banned citizens from possessing handguns in their own homes. |

The new laws allow guns to be kept in cars on campus, as well as on public and private properties. New abortion laws, which have been challenged in court, impose a 24-hour waiting period for women seeking abortions.
Another new gun law allows licensed gun owners to carry concealed weapons into bars and restaurants unless there is a sign on the property prohibiting firearms, according to state legislative documents.
A student leader at Arizona State University (ASU), sophomore Christopher Chesny, secretary of the ASU College Republicans, said the new gun laws "are well thought out and protect Second Amendment rights." In other words, more guns will be available to more people in more places.
