For gun policy watchers in 2014, the game has become a one-sided affair. Gun rights advocates continue to rack up political and legal victories, while the anti-gun movement seems to have run out of steam entirely says John Pierce, co-founder of OpenCarry.org, and a Virginia gun rights attorney specializing in gun trusts and the restoration of gun rights under Virginia and federal law.
. . .
All in all the anti-gun movement is appears going no-where fast, claims OpenCarry.orgs Mr. Pierce. Looking ahead, Pierce predicts that the Supreme Court will eventually grant certiorari to a case so as to resolve the split of authority as to whether the Second Amendment provides a fundamental right to carry guns outside the home. |

Police believe that a 37-year-old man was attempting to shoplift items when a Safeway employee confronted the man inside the store. An altercation between the two men started, with the alleged shoplifter running outside, with the employee following, police said.
The two men ended up in a parking lot across from the Bank of America where another altercation occurred. The shoplifter then struck the man in the head with a bottle, police said. Police said that the Safeway employee who was scared after being struck in the head stabbed the suspected shoplifter multiple times. |

The City of Santa Clara has relaxed their gun laws, at least for now. Before the Santa Clara City Council meeting on Wednesday, the city said it was illegal to carry firearms and knives longer than 3 inches in public places, an ordinance which apparently conflicted with state law and the Second Amendment.
Shortly after enacting a law prohibiting the discharge and the carrying of guns and other weapons upon public property, the City of Santa Clara received a letter from Alan M. Gottlieb, executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, a gun rights advocacy group, which brought the matter to the forefront of Santa Claras attention. |

Its important to note that this isnt a constitutional question. The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the right of states to impose certain limits on Second Amendment rights. Just as the right to free speech does not allow someone to yell Fire! in a crowded theater, so the right to bear arms doesnt allow someone to carry any weapon wherever he or she likes, in whatever manner he or she likes.
Hoell is right in one respect. Lawmakers should take up this matter in the new legislative session. But they should not try broaden the availability of concealed weapons. Instead, they should fix the states toothless firearms statute, which asks local officials to decide whether someone is a suitable person to be licensed. |

Corey Wilson, the man behind the first 3-D printed gun, is now promising a miniature CNC machine designed to complete home-built AR-15 lowers.
Wilsons company, Defense Distributed, unveiled its introductory-priced $999 Ghost Gunner machine this month and, unlike the companys previous entries into the DIY firearm world, the company is promising the ability to produce guns that are more durable. The device, essentially a simplified desktop CNC machine, will allow a user with no prior manufacturing skillset, to produce a working AR-15 lower receiver from almost any mil-spec 80 percent receiver blank. |

Concern for realtor safety is nothing new to Shepherd, but he said recent news that a real estate agent was killed while showing a home in Arkansas has reinforced his views. |

State law enforcement officials like Sheriff Gary Raney of Ada County are in drastic need of a reeducation lesson on anti-commandeering, the Constitution, and the Second Amendment.
Raney, the president of the Idaho Sheriffs Association (ISA), has openly declared he will enforce federal gun laws restricting the rights of citizens to keep and bear arms in his county in spite of a new state law banning him from doing so.
Earlier this year the Idaho state Legislature unanimously passed the Idaho Federal Firearm, Magazine and Register Ban Enforcement Act, which makes it a misdemeanor for a state law enforcement officer to enforce new federal firearms restrictions. |

Don Hosmer recalled disarming before entering Illinois, and seeing several others do so as well. As a result, I decided to explore the problems and possibilities of carry in Illinois for a non-resident. |

Backers of one of two rival gun-related initiatives are raising alarms this morning over a meeting scheduled next Tuesday in Marysville to combat their measure, Initiative 591, but their focus might be redirected by a KOMO news story yesterday that suggested grant funds from the City of Seattle have been used by two local filmmakers on a gun violence movie that they hopehas an impact on the November election.
What does that mean, precisely? What sort of impact are they envisioning? |

Gun control groups say this is the year they finally go toe-to-toe with the National Rifle Association and match their foe's imposing campaign spending for congressional candidates.
Their long-awaited financial parity with the gun lobby, however, underscores the importance of timing in politics. Firearms violence has faded as a top tier public concern, a turnabout from the issue's high profile immediately following the December 2012 massacre of 20 first-graders and six aides at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. |

Yesterday the Tenth Circuit heard oral arguments in Bonidy v. United States, which is an as-applied challenge to the U.S. Postal Service regulation which completely prohibits firearms on all postal property, including parking lots. Mr. Bonidy lives in Avon, Colorado, and has a concealed carry permit issued pursuant to Colorado law, following a fingerprint-based background check, safety training, and the County Sheriffs determination that he does not pose any threat to himself or others. |

An attorney who successfully challenged the District of Columbia's ban on carrying handguns outside the home said Thursday that the centerpiece of new gun legislation passed by the D.C. Council is unconstitutional and that a judge should keep it from going into effect.
The legislation approved in September says people can only get a permit to carry a gun outside their home or business if they demonstrate a specific reason for needing one. But attorney Alan Gura says that the Constitution requires the city to allow people to carry a gun for self-defense, without any more specific reason.
Gura says a judge should act to make clear the requirement isn't acceptable and keep it from being enforced. |

Lets be perfectly honest. The Great Divide between the two gun initiatives I-594 and I-591 will never see a bridge built. Both factions are obstinate and emotional. Extreme politics are becoming more visible as we get closer to Nov. 4.
Heres a look at what the two initiatives are and what the major arguments are, both for and against them. If you havent already, its time to decide how to vote. |

Two years ago Chris Cheng came out of nowhere to beat seasoned marksmen, police officers and veterans to win History Channels reality shooting competition show Top Shot.
When I auditioned, I was openly gay. But I was surprised as nobody cared. They only cared how well I could shoot and represent our season, said Cheng, who quit his job at Google after the show and is now an NRA news commentator and is releasing his first book Shoot to Win. There is this stereotypical view of the gun community as anti-gay rednecks, but nothing could be further from the truth. It was interesting as the History Channel never outed me on the show even though they had hours of footage. I asked why and they said simply that it just wasnt relevant. |

The plaintiffs who successfully sued to overturn the Districts long-standing ban on carrying firearms in public asked a federal judge Thursday to bar the city from enforcing its new law to regulate weapons, arguing that it is unconstitutional.
In a motion, the four people and the Second Amendment Foundation asked U.S. District Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. to enjoin the D.C. government from enforcing restrictions on carrying guns in public unless and until such time as the District of Columbia adopts a licensing mechanism consistent with constitutional standards enabling people to exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms. |

A Tevis Junior High School administrator who was arrested and subsequently released after bringing a gun to school has filed a claim against the city of Bakersfield and its police department, according to his attorney Daniel Rodriguez.
The claim, for which plans were announced in early September, was filed in court Thursday.
Kent Williams, 51, vice principal at the school since 2010, claims he was falsely arrested by officers for bringing the handgun to school, because he has a valid concealed-weapons permit and showed it to them before the arrest was made.
"Once the police were shown the CCW, end of story," Rodriguez told Eyewitness News. He says the arrest violated Williams' rights, and he has three basic complaints. |

I spoke to Charles C.W. Cooke of National Review about the emerging and deadly cancer of SWATting within the anti-gun movement yesterday, and hes released a very good article on the disturbing trend which cites specific examples from gun control cultists.
While Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action, Erica Soto Lamb of Everytown, and similar gun control leaders are not explicitly calling for gun owners to be harmed by their followers, they are attempting to other us, turning us into something malignant and possibly just a little subhuman and therefore worthy of extreme measures. They are certainly not making any attempts to police their more extreme members. |
