A large crowd turned out for a contentious town hall on curbing gun violence Tuesday led by Democratic U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens of Rochester Hills and two Michigan lawmakers.
The hour-long, Q&A-style event at the Multi-Lakes Conservation Association was hosted with Fems for Dems, a grassroots group, and aimed to cover topics such as safe firearm storage, protecting victims of domestic violence and preventing attacks, organizers said.
But Stevens, Michigan House Democratic Leader Christine Greig of Farmington Hills and Democratic State Rep. Robert Wittenberg of Huntington Woods were often drowned out and interrupted by protesters at the gun club, some of whom repeatedly shouted "NRA" in reference to the National Rifle Association. |

This morning, Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden unveiled his Plan to End Our Gun Violence Epidemic, and its a mess. It contains provisions that would bankrupt gun manufacturers for the crime of selling fully functional, legal firearms. It would ban the sale of the most popular rifles in America and the standard-capacity magazines made for Americas most commonly used handguns. Oh, and to incentivize a voluntary buyback of existing assault weapons, it would grant the owners of such weapons a choice: sell your rifle to the government or join a firearms registry. |

A Florida lawmaker is pushing to loosen the states gun laws.
Republican State Rep. Anthony Sabatini filed the bill, HB 273, that would allow lawful gun owners to carry without a license in areas where concealed carry is typically allowed.
It would keep in place prohibitions on carrying firearms in places like courtrooms and college campuses, but the penalty for bringing a gun there would be reduced from a third-degree felony to a second-degree misdemeanor. |

Once outside, the business owner was confronted by a man with a crowbar and the business owner fired a handgun several times striking the man at least twice. Berkey said the man ran about 150 feet before collapsing.
The business owner called 911 and the responding deputy found the man, who was in his 30s, deceased along Texas 105.
Berkey said no charges had been filed in the case but added the case would be presented to a Montgomery County Grand Jury. |

Clark County commissioners passed an ordinance today extending no-gunfire zones around Lovell Canyon and the southwest northeast part of the Las Vegas Valley. The ordinance prohibits any discharge of a firearm except for self-defense.
Municipalities in the county already prohibit target shooting outside designated ranges.
County code also prohibits gunfire in areas within 500 feet of a public roadway. Shooting ranges and certain events sanctioned by government agencies are excluded from the ordinance. |

A new Nevada Domestic Violence law 2019. The Nevada Supreme Court has ruled that people accused of misdemeanor domestic violence have the right to a jury trial based on the fact that a 2017 law cancels the defendants right to keep and bear arms.
In trying to make victims safer, our legislature added a law that anyone convicted of a misdemeanor domestic battery loses their right to possess firearms. That right, however, is enshrined the Nevada Constitution as well as the United States Constitution.
The unanimous ruling came on an appeal by a defendant who was denied a jury trial in Las Vegas Municipal Court and subsequently convicted by the trial judge. |

The Crossroads of the West Gun Show returned to Del Mar last weekend with a rally, emboldened by a recent victory in court.
The state-appointed board that oversees the fairgrounds suspended Crossroads last year after receiving political pressure from residents and officials. The organizers sued, and a federal judge ruled in June that the gun show could continue to operate while the lawsuit proceeded because Crossroads was likely to win its constitutional case. |

Vivian Brown was charged with possession of a firearm without requisite Firearm Owners ID card following an incident in the spring of 2017. During that incident, it was discovered that Brown was in possession of a single shot, bolt action .22 caliber Remington rifle within her home without a FOID card.
Now Brown is contesting that requiring a FOID card to own a firearm within her own home is a violation of her Second Amendment right to bare arms for the purpose of protection, having already had the White County Second Circuit Court rule in her favor.

A correspondent I have known since his childhood spends a large part of his time overseas as a missionary.
Coming back to Wisconsin, he was surprised to find a No Firearms Allowed sign at a Denny's. I believe this is a local policy, decided by each local manager of the franchise. My correspondent gave me permission to edit the account of his reaction. His overseas experience has made him appreciate the freedoms Americans take for granted. |

Harry Wilson is the Director of the Institute of Policy and Opinion Research at Roanoke College. He doesnt believe safe storage laws are effective.
The guns I have in my house, I can store them any way I want, for as long as I live here, Wilson said. No one is going to come and check to see if Im in compliance with any law or not in compliance with any law.
To his point, in states with safe storage laws or child access prevention laws, police officers dont knock on gun owners doors to see if their guns are locked up. |

Move over Shotgun Joe. That was so 2013. Welcome 2019s Bazooka Joe, who said instead of buying an AR-15, youre better off buying actual weapons of war.
The former vice president made the comments at a town hall in Las Vegas, just days before the anniversary of the tragic murders there. Biden used the event to call for universal background checks and promote his justifications to ban lawfully owned firearms.
If you need weapons to protect yourself from the government, youd better go get an F-15. Youd better buy yourself a fighter jet or a bazooka rocket launcher, Biden said, according to the Associated Press. |
