"Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske, quoted by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer today claiming that more guns in the community does not deter crime should remember that his stolen gun is out there posing a greater threat to public safety than firearms belonging to typical law-abiding gun owners."
"... CCRKBA still has a reward for the recovery of Kerlikowske's stolen 9mm Glock pistol, taken from his city-owned car that was parked on a downtown street almost four years ago."
"Kerlikowske, in New York preparing for a gun control debate on National Public Radio, is quoted by the newspaper arguing that research is 'clear' that the more guns in the community, 'the more that are in circulation for criminals to get their hands on.'" ... |

"There are some who are fond of repeating Jefferson's comment about the tree of liberty needing to be 'refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants,' though they often skip the part about patriots and choose to only include the tyrants. The problem is that in actual practice you couldn't leave out, 'the blood of patriots,' because when the blood of tyrants is spilt, the blood of patriots must also be spilt. There is simply no way around it."
"The same guys are often fond of bumper sticker slogans like, 'from my cold dead fingers,' and the more erudite, 'MOLON LAVE,' and while I can appreciate the sentiment, I also know that in 99.995% of cases it's simply not true. ..." ... |

"In June, the Supreme Court held that the Washington, D.C. gun bans violate the Second ... This has understandably been an occasion of great joy for advocates of the right to self-defense. Nevertheless, we must understand how fragile this result is and how limited the opinion is."
"The case was decided by the scantest of majorities: 5-4. The dissenting opinions are, to put it bluntly, ahistorical garbage that treat the Second Amendment in ways in which no other portion of the Bill of Rights is treated. The case for the right to arms is so overwhelming that both sides call it the Standard Model view of the Second Amendment, which has been accepted not just by gun owners but also by many honest scholars who are anti-gun." ... |

... 'The truth is,' the state gun rights group points out, 'that the only thing SB184 changed regarding schools was about the ability for concealed handgun license-holders to pick up or drop off their child from a designated point on school property.' "Seems reasonable. These citizens have a right to keep and bear arms, and citizens in compliance with SB184 are the most peaceable in the state. And it's not like those intent on evil will be stopped by mere rules. So if youre not projecting your own ignorance and trust issues, whats the problem?" ... |

"The usage of guns in America has always been a hot-button issue used by politicians to appeal to their various constituencies across the country. Thanks in part to the efforts of our Founding Fathers, the right to keep and bear arms is a protected right shared by all citizens. The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution ensures that the government does not have the jurisdiction to take away this right."
"The importance of protecting this right is derived from fear of the government exhibiting some form of abuse toward its citizenry, in which case the citizens would have the right to replace that government with a new one that would better serve them. ..." ... |

You have to write lots of new jokes for late-night TV shows, you have to immediately start printing bumper stickers abdicating responsibility for the new president-elect (ie: 'Don't blame me, I voted for ______!'), and of course, you have to stock up on your guns."
"Wait. What?"

"Keeping violence out of the workplace naturally is a top priority for employers everywhere. But as more states pass laws giving employees the right to bring guns onto company parking lots, many managers now feel caught in the proverbial crossfire, writes James P. Anelli, a Newark-based attorney in LeClairRyan's Labor and Employment Group in a new article."
"In the article, written for Human Resource Executive Online ... "Here in the West, there's no more sure-fire way to rile up voters than raising a threat to our firearms. Heritage and history are only part of it. Tens of thousands of Coloradans grew up around hunting and cherish the fall ritual as a once-a-year renewal of good times with family and friends. We tend to associate guns with camaraderie, the outdoors, rugged independence and, yes, personal safety."
"It's small wonder that a vigorous, $40 million [NRA] campaign against the election of Sen. Barack Obama as president has attracted a good deal of attention. The NRA has named Colorado as a target. With flyers, mailers, yard signs ... the NRA claims the Democratic candidate would be 'the most anti-gun president in U.S. history.'" ... |

"Politicians in the city of Worcester, Massachusetts ... propose to ban the possession in public of knives with blades longer than 1.5 inches. The ban follows a rise in after-hours stabbings among the city's bar- and club-goers from 85 in 2006 to a projected 148 this year. (Strange but true: a popular New England regional band of the 1980s was called Rash of Stabbings.) The idea seems to be that if you forbid the carrying of sharp pieces of metal, the people committing the mayhem will slap themselves on the forehead and say, 'Oh hell, I guess I can't commit attempted murder tonight cuz I might get fined for carrying a pocket knife.'" ...
