"The Courant and other outlets have so far not seen fit to publish the photos. Neither has this column, copied on that email, as evidenced by the screenshot accompanying this article. While my motives are based on not wanting to cause personal destruction to someone who should and could be an ally in advancing the right to keep and bear arms, there can be little doubt many of the media outlets, which wouldn't hesitate to run such photos of a non-'progressive' candidate were this a two-man race, feel little inclination to buck a strategy of the man they do back."

In 1905, the U.S. Supreme Court decided in Jacobson v. Massachusetts that a man who refused vaccination during a 1902 smallpox outbreak could be fined, ruling that, Upon the principle of self-defense, of paramount necessity, a community has the right to protect itself against an epidemic of disease which threatens the safety of its members.

A controversial gun-rights sign that was ordered to be taken down in Hamburg will be allowed to stay up in Niagara Falls.

Code Enforcement Director Dennis Virtuoso, who is also the Democrat minority leader in the Niagara County Legislature, said the anti-NY SAFE Act sign attacking the bills main supporter Gov. Andrew Cuomo, also a Democrat, is allowable under the city ordinance that covers signs, explicitly stating that political speech on specific candidates and issues is legal.

We made a decision that it is allowed to stay there, Virtuoso said.

On Tuesday, one week before the election which will determine whether Pennsylvanias Republican Governor Tom Corbett (shown) gains a second term, he signed into law a state-wide preemption law that ensures that all gun laws across the states 2,639 counties and municipalities cannot be more restrictive than the state allows. In its announcement of Corbetts signing of the bill, the National Rifle Association (NRA) urged its members to thank Governor Corbett for being a steadfast advocate of your Second Amendment rights and for signing [the bill] into law.

After all, Georgia is a gun-friendly state, and talking about one's support for more regulations on the Second Amendment is not going to be popular.

But in March of this year, when Nunn when still trying to win a Democratic primary, she was very clear about her gun control convictions. At that time, according to The Marietta Daily Journal, Nunn responded to questions on gun control by saying:

My mother and father are hunters. They are teaching my 11-year-old about hunting right now, and I also believe that we can have common-sense efforts to ensure that we have background checks and keep guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists and those who are mentally unstable.

The question we posed in Mondays GSA Daily email asked, Do you think domestic violence offenders should be allowed to own firearms?

Fifty-four people responded to the survey. Four, or 7.41%, answered, Yes. Some of these respondents cited the Second Amendment, though one wrote: Yes, It seems appropriate that they would not be able to have firearms for a period of time following a conviction, but they should have the opportunity to earn this privilege back. It may be appropriate to permanently remove a person's right to own a firearm if they are a repeat or frequent offender.

On the other hand, 46 respondents, or 85.19%, said No. One reader wrote, It may be a constitutional right, but that does not make it right for everyone.

Voters in Washington will have to decide between one measure that would require background checks for all gun-buyers, and another that would prevent all background-checking except what is required by federal law. That seems fine, except that both measures have a good shot at passing. Some likely voters have even said they will vote for both measures. No one is quite sure what will happen if both succeed.

Alabama's measure up for vote would require "strict scrutiny" of any future measures that may curtail the right to bear arms.

The campaign for Initiative 594, which would expand background checks for gun purchases, leads spending for all ballot measures with more than $11 million raised between two committees. That total has been boosted since mid-October by a $285,000 contribution from former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and more than $660,000 from Everytown for Gun Safety, a political action committee that he helps lead. Everytown also gave another $216,000 to a separate committee it set up to support I-594.

WA: 27 Of 39 Washington Sheriffs Now Oppose Initiative 594

A majority of Washington States 39 sheriffs have come out in opposition to anti-gun Washington State Ballot Initiative 594.

The sheriffs oppose I-594 because it will not make anyone safer, will strain scarce law enforcement resources, will criminalize the lawful behavior of millions of law-abiding gun owners in Washington and will be unenforceable. Instead, I-594 would vastly expand the states handgun registry and force law-abiding gun owners to pay fees and get the governments permission to sell or even loan a firearm to a friend or family member.

When I instruct at Project Appleseed eventssomething I dont get to do as often as I would likethe shoot boss typically gives a benediction, reminding us of the bloody sacrifices that that first generation of Americans made in order to win a liberty we all too often take for granted.

One of my favorite shoot bosses typically wraps up his benediction by noting through a voice strained with emotion that, the Founders were forced to use the cartridge box, and risked their lives and sacred honor, to win us the liberty to use the soap box, the ballot box, and the jury box.

Members of the Montana Chapter of Moms Demand Action are being recruited for a telephone blitz of Washington voters this evening to promote Initiative 594 on the heels of an e-mail yesterday from the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility (WAGR) that alleges the gun lobby has so much power that they've gotten your sheriff to spread their lies about Initiative 594 to voters.

Its the latest, but certainly not the final attempt by supporters of the 18-page gun control measure to downplay and even discredit the overwhelming law enforcement opposition to their billionaire-backed initiative.

The Washington County Attorneys Office will not prosecute a man who fatally shot Stephen Aizenberg in Leeds in July, ruling the shooting to be self defense, lead prosecutor Ryan Shaum said Thursday.

There is nothing there to be inconsistent with the claim of self defense, Shaum said, adding the investigation involved taking statements from witnesses.

A newly revised law in Oklahoma says you can shoot someone in your home if you feel your life or the life of anyone else in the home is threatened. The law previously only applied to you and your family.

A new law requires you to renew your handgun training certificate every three years. They previously did not expire. As a part of the new law, firearm instructors will be required to keep a record of certificates over a three-year period.

The New York Times mocked an NRA ad that shows a rape victim speaking up for her right to bear arms for self-defense. The ad features Kimberly Weeks--a "survivor of violent crime"--telling gun control proponent Michael Bloomberg that he "[does] not have the right to tell [her] how to defend [her] life."

According to the NYT, this ad is illustrative of the NRA's "expert use of fear" to "[put] guns in nervous hands."

The advent of 3-D printed firearms is shattering the foundations of government gun control and reviving an important debate about the place of firearms in modern democracies. In the next decades, the dissemination of printed guns will force public institutions and citizens to adapt, whether they like it or not. A more widespread knowledge of gun safety will be necessary to cope with this development.

Vivek Murthys nomination to become Surgeon General now has mythical status. It is the Obama nomination that will not die. Or, its at least a zombie nomination, because it was dead, but it comes coming back to life. Harvard physician Murthy, gun owners may recall, was originally nominated in the fall of 2012 to serve as this bureaucratic anachronism, and on October 16, 2012 famously tweeted:

There is a new argument against Iowa Republican Senate candidate Joni Ernst. To wit, that she should be excluded from the United States Senate because she might shoot the parliamentarian the first time a procedural ruling goes against her.

In a recently unearthed video from a 2012 National Rifle Association meeting in Iowa, Ernst explained her devotion to her Smith & Wesson 9 millimeter in particular, and to her gun rights in general. I believe, she said, in the right to defend myself and my family whether its from an intruder, or whether its from the government, should they decide that my rights are no longer important.

Break-ins have been invading the media lately, and women seem to be common targets. Many are tired of being victimized, so they're taking it upon themselves to ensure their safety.

Women of the 21st century are feeling the need to pack heat. Heart of Texas Guns, a Big Country firearm shop, has observed more women coming into the shop to make purchases, and the number of women with a Concealed Handgun License is at an all-time high.

Rep. Shannon Savick had a letter to the editor recently wanting to set the record straight on guns. In February 2013 during gun-control hearings before the House Public Safety Committee, Rep. Savick never asked a single question or made any comments. Not once did she stand up for law-abiding minnesotans. In fact, Rep. Savick walked out on the committee during the same gun-control hearings on HF 241, which would have banned common hunting rifles, introduced universal background checks, limited magazine capacity and banned so-called assault-style rifles. She was also in favor of HF 237, which introduced universal gun registration.

A 17-year-old girl in Mississippi used a handgun to defend herself and her mother against a home invader early Monday morning.

The idea of a burglar showing up in the middle of the night chilling and not something that many of us want to think about. Still, a large number of Americans take precautions every night to fight off a potential burglar. Whether it's a deadbolt on the front door, a guard dog in the front yard or a 9mm on the nightstand, many homeowners like to feel an extra sense of security before heading off to bed.

In my states last legislative session something encouraging happened. The will of the people overcame special interests and political gridlock. Both chambers of the legislature did what 86 percent of Nevadans like myself wanted: they passed legislation to close the private sale loophole that lets criminals and the seriously mentally ill meet a gun seller online or in a parking lot and buy a gun without a background check.

Amendment 3

Amendment 3 seeks to protect the right to bear arms as a fundamental right, subject to the highest protection.

A vote for the amendment would declare the right to bear arms a fundamental right and protect it against international treaty or law.

A vote against the amendment does not diminish the right to bear arms, but does not protect it as a fundamental right.

The right to bear arms is still provided for in the state and federal constitution.

Nasty New York Times writer David Firestone pretends to care about campaign scare-mongering. But what he and his elitist ilk really fear is independent-thinking women who have dared to exercise their First Amendment powers to defend their Second Amendment rights.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Our Founding Fathers were proud that Americans were trusted with arms because they knew that only when people are armed could they truly be thought of as free citizens. And that's where the circle closes. Those who want to deprive you of your right to keep and bear arms are intending to deprive you of your freedom, period. Like the criminals their policies encourage, these elitists know that it is always best to disarm victims before you enslave them. Charley Reese
