Melikidse showed no emotion as the verdict was read. He was arrested inside a home where the family was terrorized for 3 hrs. Deputies said he barged in with a stolen 9 mm pointed at the homeowner's head after the man answered an early morning knock at the door, then forced the man & wife to bind each other with packing tape. Why is the media making such a big deal over this miscreant's work? ------- "Making fun of Canada is such an all-American pastime that watching Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" with a Canadian crowd at the Toronto International Film Festival last month felt like payback. Mr. Moore's latest gadfly documentary, opening in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, tackles America's love affair with guns and its egregious number of gun deaths more than 11,000 annually compared with that of other countries. The comparison he finds most telling is with hunting-happy Canada, where there are 7 million guns for a population of 33 million a ratio similar to our own but fewer than 400 deaths a year. So you might say that the joke's on us." ...

"A judge ruled Friday that jurors can see gruesome crime scene and autopsy photos in the multiple murder trial of Jonathan and Reginald Carr."
"The brothers stood quietly behind their attorneys and looked intently at the evidence, presented Friday by prosecutors to defense attorneys and Sedgwick County District Judge Paul Clark."
"The Carrs are facing a combined 113 counts -- including capital murder, kidnapping, robbery, burglary, rape and criminal sodomy, among other crimes. Both brothers face the same 55 charges. In addition, Reginald faces three additional charges related to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm."
These black men forced their way into a home, forced white victims to have sex with each other, raped and sodomized the women, forced them all to remove money from ATM machines, and executed all but one of them. ORIGINAL TITLE: "Firearms, ammunition found in defendant's home" ------- SALLISAW (AP) - "Investigators found firearms and plenty of ammunition when they searched the home of a man accused of killing an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper in a drug-raid shootout, according to testimony on Friday." "Authorities found a .223-caliber semiautomatic rifle and a 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun in Kenneth Eugene Barrett's cabin after the Sept. 24, 1999, gunbattle, said Vicky Lyons, a special agent with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation."
"Prosecutors have charged Barrett, 41, with first-degree murder in the death of Trooper David 'Rocky' Eales, of rural McAlester."
"Eales, 49, and Trooper John Hamilton were in the lead Ford Bronco of a tactical team caravan that troopers say came under fire as it tried to serve a 'no-knock' warrant to search for methamphetamine at Barrett's cabin."
"Barrett, of McKey, could receive the death penalty if convicted. He also has been charged with shooting with intent to kill for shots fired at Hamilton and two counts of discharging a firearm with an intent to kill linked for shots fired at two other troopers." ...
"Barrett's attorney, John Echols, has argued that a 'flawed' tactical plan led to a tragedy that could have been prevented had troopers announced their presence on Barrett's property, which was posted for no trespassing."
"According to Echols, Barrett was acting in self-defense against a heavily armed force that attacked his home."
NOTE: IF this man is able to get off on his "self defense" claim, he won't be the first to do so. Previous judges have ruled in favor of self-defending citizens who've come under armed assault by government employees. But it's rare. Many if not most judges protect the police state as a matter of course, throwing the right to self-defense out the window in such cases. |
