A Jackson photographer who has sued to stop the annual elk hunt in Grand Teton National Park has secured a license to shoot an elk starting Oct. 24.
Timothy Mayo said he bought the license to show that officials are not following laws requiring park hunters to be qualified and experienced. A plaintiff in the 2014 suit against the U.S. Department of Interior and National Park Service, Mayo said he purchased his license over the counter at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department office in Jackson without demonstrating any marksmanship abilities. |

Days after nine people were massacred on an Oregon college campus, TV news people and politicians were doing the proverbial rearranging of deck chairs on the Titanic. CNN was refusing to name to killer to cut down on his notoriety; pundits went back and forth on the need for spending on mental health; and national politicians were silent on the need for meaningful gun control regulations, except for some like presidential aspirant Jeb Bush who said, simply, Stuff happens. Not mentioned often enough in the rhetoric is the fact that despite whatever mental illness he suffered, the Oregon killer was able to acquire 13 guns legally. |

In the market for a gun? An East Tennessee store is offering a deal, as long as you're a Christian. The owner of Frontier Firearms says the mass shooting in Oregon prompted the sale.
"If Christians are going to be targeted, we need to protect ourselves," said Brant Williams, Owner of Frontier Firearms. "The best way to protect yourself is with the best weapon available, and that happens to be a handgun."

Another mass shooting, another flood of liberal attacks on gun culture, the Second Amendment, and the NRA. And another round of conservative pushback asserting some version of "guns don't kill people; people kill people." And another Barack Obama press conference railing at our failure to "do something" to stop the violence. And another Nicholas Kristof column about how we need to regulate guns like cars. And another flurry of calls to do a better job of responding to mental health problems.

Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, is the latest spot of a mass shooting.
The killer, Chris Harper Mercer, ran rampant on Thursday, slaughtering nine people and injuring at least 10 others. Law enforcement officials have said the reason Mercer did this was because he felt the world was against him, according to NBC. CNN released on Saturday that the gunman killed himself, according to the local sheriff. |

Investigators say in two different incidents he tried to lure women into his van, grabbing one of the women. Fifteen minutes later another woman had to escape after the suspect put his hands on her a few blocks away at Olive and Clark.
Fresno Police are still searching for the man targeting women. In the meantime, self defense experts tonight say something as simple as a flashlight can help make you more aware of your surroundings and can be used to blind, or fight off an attacker. |

In August, my colleague Charlie Cooke wrote an epic rant daring the Left to stop talking about repealing the Second Amendment and start doing it. Introduce the repeal to Congress, work it through the states, and tell the American people what you want to do take from them a fundamental, enumerated right from the Bill of Rights. As Charlie eloquently outlines, repealing the Second Amendment is an impossible task. Even worse for the Left, its political suicide. |

Forgive us if by the time you are reading this you are feeling fully sated with commentary about the latest mass shooting tragedy, this one from of a small community college in Oregon. It follows others in South Carolina last June, in California last year and the Washington Navy Yard in 2013. If your gut tells you that mass public shootings are alarmingly common, your gut's right.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation defines a mass murder as four or more deaths during a single incident with no distinct time period between killings. By this definition, according to Northeastern University criminologist James Alan Fox, between 1980 and 2010 there were an average of 20 mass murders per year, or an average of one every 2.6 weeks. |

The shooting at a community college in Oregon is only the latest in a long line of carnage inflicted by people who are unstable, but who have an all-too- easy access to guns. While the solutions to this problem are not easy, they must be addressed.
Its too easy to dismiss what has become an epidemic in this country with easy answers like The Second Amendment is being threatened, or Guns dont kill people, people kill people. |

"I always hear the NRA say 'guns don't kill people, people kill people.' They're right. Let's do background checks on those people," he said.
But Democratic legislation calling for universal background checks has not seen any action so far in the Michigan Legislature, where the Republican majority has moved to streamline gun rules in recent years.
Gun control laws simply do not work, according to Sen. Patrick Colbeck, R-Canton, who delivered a floor speech on Tuesday challenging his colleagues to name one law that would have prevented the mass shooting in Oregon.

Munich's picturesque beer halls aren't just good for guzzling some of the best German lager in the world; for many of the city's rich and famous, these local institutions are also some of the most swankiest places to be seen. Even members of the Bayern Munich soccer squad are known to show up for a taste, and especially during the city's annual Oktoberfest, some of these venues are actually quite selective about who they let through their doors.
