I have had a lot of questions about the new CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) laws that are soon to take effect. This has been covered several times in the paper and radio, but I wanted to take the time and cover it again for those who may have missed any of the information before. There are two dates of importance within the new law (Senate Bill 656), but there are some things I would like to point out before going into the dates and what changes they bring.
There has been a lot of confusion regarding the permit itself because if you will be able to carry without a permit then why get one? |

When it come to best, that terminology is subjective and open to endless debate on social media. Simply tagging something as the best opens up a can of worms with damn near everyone chiming in and disagreeing to disagree.
With over four decades of whitetail hunting in the North East under my belt and having had great success hunting with a handgun for whitetail deer there are a number of bullets (factory and hand loads) that I have tried and all have worked; but some have performed extremely well. |

This clown epidemic just took a serious turn after a knife-wielding clown terrorized a bowhunter.
Draven Riffe posted a video to his Facebook recently, showing a knife-carrying clown walk right to his treestand while he was hunting one afternoon.
He shouts at the clown to make him aware hes trespassing on private property, but the clown isnt fazed. Instead, the clown reveals a large butcher knife, and thats when Draven goes into a panic.
Some people are calling this video a hoax, and were with them. Although Draven says he was so shaken afterward, he waited nearly 2 hours in his treestand for law enforcement to come and escort him out of the woods. |

A longtime Oak Park resident and college professor is hoping to start a conversation about gun control by seeking support to abolish the Second Amendment.
A non-binding referendum appearing on Oak Park Township ballots in November will ask voters if the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution should be repealed, with future gun licensing and regulation to be taken up by Congress.
The referendum question will read: "Shall the Constitution of the United States be amended as follows? The second article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is repealed. The United States Congress shall regulate the licensing and use of arms." |

When Bill Ruger, Sr. founded Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. in 1949, his newly minted company faced an uphill battle. Experts cast doubt that a new firearms company could stand up to the established name-brand gunmakers in an industry that was already viewed to be in a state of decline.
More than 60 years later, the Ruger name is respected around the world. In the spirit of Bill Ruger, Ruger CEO Mike Fifer and President/COO Chris Killoy have taken a stand to not only provide customers with a great firearm, but to ensure their customers have the right to use them for years to come. |

The amount of guns on the street have increased these days and its so much easier to get them.
St Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCullough tells KMOXs Charlie Brennan that his problem is not with weapons.
People certainly have the Second Amendment right to own weapons, McCullough says. Its just that there has to be some sensible legislation out there and thats pretty much what we are lacking in Missouri.

The National Rifle Associations been the target of complaints following its tweets questioning the concept of gun control in the wake of Kim Kardashians gunpoint robbery in a Paris hotel room. NRAs tweets about criminals not submitting to background checks in a nation like France, with some of the worlds most strict gun ownership laws, were called classless by some publications, like Mother Jones. Other pro-Second Amendment pundits like Dana Loesch offered to teach Kim-K how to shoot back. |

West Virginians with concealed carry permits are now able to travel further, with the addition of 16 different states agreeing to honor the permits this week.
Yesterday, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced the expansion, saying, Protecting the Second Amendment rights of West Virginians continues to be a priority. Our office worked very hard not only to maintain the existing agreements, but also to expand that freedom for younger West Virginians who lawfully wish to exercise their constitutional rights. |

As a society we have a responsibility to look at what laws are on the books and how they are being enforced, Braden said. Its important to recognize how many gun owners are responsible and take safety seriously. My organization is focused on the small fraction of people that most agree should not have access to guns.

The 23-state ammo ban hoax designed to make waves among gun rights enthusiasts was in keeping with prior Associated Media Coverage falsehoods, including claims of an impending motorcycle curfew in March 2016, a motorcycle speed ban in August 2016, a FDA e-juice ban in mid-2016, a codified "two pet maximum" ordinance in multiple jurisdictions (causing many households to believe they would be forced to abandon beloved pets), a 50-state ban on open carry, and the elimination of Wisconsin's food assistance programs. |

But on Friday, officials from the sheriffs office and district attorneys office said the two agencies had reviewed the facts of the case and determined that Armendariz was defending himself when he shot Lauster.

Later, the judge discussed the Second Amendment and focused on state militias. He lectured, That is what I thought they [the Founding Fathers] were talking about, which is not the right of an individual to keep a gun next to his bed. Stripping the Second Amendment right of millions of Americans is moderation and pragmatism? (Breyer dissented in the landmark 2008 Heller decision that the Second Amendment does protect the individual's right to own a gun.) |

Recently coming to light is the fact that in 2015, Florida passed a bill allowing for the carrying of firearms during a state of emergency. This includes those who do not have a concealed carry permit. Governor Rick Scott officially declared a state of emergency on Monday due to Hurricane Matthew. This exemption applies for 48 hours after an evacuation is ordered. It can also be extended as needed by the governor.
For most libertarians, the idea of needing a permit to concealed carry is ludicrous. After all, the Second Amendment was designed for the precise reason of allowing private citizens to arm themselves without government encumbrances. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by one enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1821) |
