"Yet thats been an official attitude exhibited by Detroit officials, from Mayor Bings participation in Michael Bloombergs Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition, to Chief Godbees efforts on behalf of the globalist International Association of Chiefs of Police and his domestic stumping for a semi-auto ban, to his predecessor, Warren Evans, notorious for his own sexual scandal as well as widespread gross mismanagement and abuse, stepping down after his officers gunned down a seven-year-old girl." |

Authorities say a Transportation Security Administration officer was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport after being accused of stealing $100 from a passenger. Clyde Reese, 47, of Gardena, was arrested on suspicion of theft about 8 a.m. Friday and booked at the 77th Street Station in response to an airline passenger complaint in Terminal 5, Los Angeles Airport police Sgt. Karla Ortiz told the Daily Breeze. The victim, who wasnt identified, said he put his wallet and other items in a bin and passed it through the X-ray machine, and Reese said it needed to go through a second time, Ortiz said. When the bin emerged, the victim said his wallet was open and his credit cards were scattered inside, Ortiz said. |

Based on the chatter on gun blogs and Internet forums, it looks like a groundswell is underway in Virginia to borrow a page from Napolons playbook and vote to the sound of the guns. Thanks to a new law passed by the Virginia General Assembly and signed by Governor Bob McDonnell (R), all that it will take to vote in Virginia this year is a concealed handgun permit.
. . .
Applicants for Virginia concealed handgun permits do not have to provide photos or SSNs. And use of the concealed handgun permit as Virginia voter ID is approved by the United States Department of Justice, and is now highlighted on BarackObama.com. But not everyone approves . . . |

Located in Fredericksburg Virginia and with campuses in Stafford and Dahlgren, the University of Mary Washington is undeniably part of Virginias strong commitment to excellent public colleges and universities.
Unfortunately, UMW (which prides itself on being named after the mother of George Washington), has joined many of Virginias other fine public institutions in the very un-American act of rendering adult students, faculty, and staff defenseless.
In todays Virginia Register, UMWs finalized campus gun ban was published (putting it into full force and effect). Codified at 8VAC55-10 through 8VAC55-30, the prohibition reads: |

In one of several new filings, defense attorney Mark O'Mara writes that the requests are part of a "well thought out plan to focus on potentially relevant and admissible information."
O'Mara also noted that the state has gathered Zimmerman's high-school records from Manassas, Va. "Yet, when the same exact documents are requested regarding Trayvon Martin, the State denigrates the request as a fishing expedition," O'Mara writes. "The irony is rich." |

The National Rifle Association is asking the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn a lower court ruling that blocked the state from enforcing a law aimed at restricting doctors from questioning patients about guns.
The Firearm Owners Privacy Act is another reasonable regulation of medical practice, the NRA said in a brief supporting the states appeal of the July ruling. It exhorts doctors to stick to practicing medicine when examining patients, rather than pushing their own political agendas, and it protects patients from doctors who refuse to do so. |

A Canadian university has stopped a college game club from putting up posters that featured an image of a pistol. Except that the pistol in question wasnt even real, but a Nintendo weapon from the 1980s.
A game club at Saint Marys University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, decided to hold a game-themed social event, according to a local student newspaper. Naturally, because it was a gaming party, they drew up a poster with images of a Nintendo game controller and the Zapper, a gray-and-red electronic pistol that came with the 1985 Nintendo Entertainment System. |

The Bayou State is one step away from what some lawmakers are calling the strongest protection for gun rights in the country.
That's if enough Louisianians vote for Constitutional Amendment #2, written by Senator Neil Riser.
The amendment reads that the right to bear arms is fundamental and if any future law tries to restrict it, it will be put under strict scrutiny. |

Some state lawmakers are trying to eliminate the state background check process.
"So why do duplicate work, the police departments have enough to do already," said Sen. Rick Jones, R-Grand Ledge.
The argument is a federal check will be performed anyway. However, Michigan State Police argues that's not always the case since 47% of all pistol purchases are done through a private transaction where a background check is not available. Sgt. Christopher Hawkins, legislative liaison for the state police, says that opens dangerous doors for criminals. |

Then again, theres more to Acts 874 than this. As I noted in a previous column, its language would likely create constitutional carry, meaning that the state could no longer require permits to carry a concealed firearm. This is a major shift and Louisianans should be aware of it, but its the same state of affairs that exists in several other states.
But in a state where I cant carry a concealed weapon in my own driveway, its ludicrous to suggest that legal protections for gunowners are indisputably adequate. From my perspective, state protections for gun rights are tenuous at best and need to be bolstered. Thats why Ill be voting yes on Acts 874. |

When they brought in Abdel Odeh for attempted murder, the 19-year-old shop clerk acted more like a whimpering kid than a cold-eyed killer.
In the police interview room, Odeh tried to explain that he had feared for his life when he shot a man outside the Star Seven convenience store in a blighted stretch of Lauderhill in 2008.
Odeh didn't know it, but he had a powerful new law on his side.
Three years earlier, the Legislature had expanded the definition of self-defense in Florida, a move that allowed people to "stand their ground" when faced with grave danger. |

Drawing the ire of the gun lobby, Cook County Board President Preckwinkle is eyeing a violence tax on guns and ammunition sold in the city and suburbs, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.
Such a tax alone wouldnt close a $115 million budget gap in 2013, but it could at least funnel money into the countys $3 billion operation where roughly two-thirds of the budget pays for both the countys public health clinics and two hospitals along with the criminal justice system that includes the courts and jail. |

I felt like my life was in danger, Parks said in 2010. I was trying to close my door of my car, and I have people trying to attack me, like forced entry.
When Parks appeared before Judge Cordell Maddox in August 2010, White asked the judge for leniency.
White said that at the time of the shooting, Parks was a recent graduate of Clemson University with a degree in mechanical engineering and a 3.1 GPA. Parks had no criminal history. White gave Maddox several affidavits from ministers and teachers vouching for Parks character, including a letter from Clemson University President James Barker. |

It has been said that figures lie and liars figure. This statement has never been more appropriate than in response to the States contention that 95% of firearms in Florida are not licensed to be concealed. (States brief Pg. 20). Such a statement requires ignoring basic rules of statistics, ignoring the lack of available data, ignoring the fact that there is no requirement to license individual guns in the state (doing so is a felony, See Sec. 790.335, Fla. Stat.), and ignoring the fact that some people own multiple guns. |

Many are questioning why moderator Jim Lehrer did not ask a question related to Second Amendment rights or gun-control during the Oct. 3 debate between President Barack Obama and challenger Mitt Romney, especially since it was the only one of the three scheduled debates devoted exclusively to domestic issues. Certainly, all interested parties in the gun rights/gun control schism would have appreciated listening to both candidates define their views about a wide range of Second Amendment-related issues, from reinstating the automatic weapons ban to adopting the proposed National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Bill to making appointments to the federal judiciary, including the Supreme Court.

The candidates for governor struck different notes on gun control last night, with Democrat Maggie Hassan saying she supports the Second Amendment plus "common sense" restrictions and Republican Ovide Lamontagne saying he'd sign "constitutional carry" legislation allowing most adults to carry concealed handguns without a permit.
"Vermont has a constitutional-carry law, too, and no one's accused Vermont of being overly conservative," said Lamontagne, a Manchester attorney, during a televised debate. "The reason for that is, they've put their trust, their confidence, their presumption in favor of law-abiding citizens being able to carry when they see fit." |
