"Gun locks have their own problems. Most importantly, the increased time it takes to get the gun ready to deter a criminal. Locked guns are not as readily accessible for defensive gun uses. If criminals are deterred from attacking victims because they fear people might defend themselves, gun locks may therefore increase crime. Exacerbating this problem, many mechanical locks (such as barrel or trigger locks) also require that the gun be stored unloaded. Loading a gun obviously requires yet more time to respond to a criminal."
"Guns clearly deter criminals, with Americans using guns defensively over 2 million times each year -- 4.5 times more frequently than the 500,000 times guns were used to commit crimes in 2001. Over 90 percent of the time simply brandishing the weapon stops an attack. Even though the police are extremely important at reducing crime, they simply can't be there all the time and virtually always end up at the crime scene after the crime has been committed." |

"David Bach is a warrior. A former Navy SEAL, a Naval Reserve officer and a naval attorney with top-secret clearance, Bach stands at the front lines of the War on Terror. Yet, on Sept. 25, a federal judge forbade him to carry a gun in New York state."
"The ruling is part of a growing trend. More and more federal judges today contend that Americans have no ...constitutional right to keep and bear arms."
"How did this happen? Simple. Left-wing historians and law professors have been rewriting American history and reinterpreting the Constitution for years. Now their work is bearing fruit. Anti-gun judges parrot the lies their professors told them. With each stroke of their gavels, they infuse those lies with the force of law." |

"Call your carrier in advance. Let them know you are traveling with a firearm and find out if they have any special regulations."

"While most people who fly will get to the airport 1-2 hours before their flight leaves, hunters should give themselves more time because they will have to fill out forms."

"Sammy Burks Jr. is dead today because two adults treated their loaded handgun without care or thought."
"The gun, indeed, is an inanimate object. Yet when you leave one out for a child to find, it can become horribly animated."
------- Here is where Mr. Johnson becomes all confused and downtrodden, because he's oh-so-misunderstood by gun owners when he advocates rendering your tool of self defense useless "for the children." He attempts to make himself sound more rational by claiming he's pro-safety, not anti-gun, ignoring or conveniently forgetting his moronic advice that keeping a loaded weapon at home is a "dangerous, stupid thing."
"I wrote the story to illustrate the danger, the outright foolishness, of any parent whose guns aren't locked up," Mr. Johnson claims. Anyone who read his last column can see right through that lie.
And, of course, he falls back on the old "I'm a gun owner" claim, as if this is a shield against his utter stupidity when it comes to actual gun safety.

"In the two months that Villarreal and her son have taken tae kwon do together, the pair have seen their confidence levels increase, she said. When a strange man recently followed them through a grocery store parking lot, Villarreal readied herself to backhand the man if he approached her a move she wouldnt have known without her martial arts training." -- A move she wouldn't need unless her attacker was already dangerously close - something that wouldn't happen if she were armed.
"Most of the violent crimes involved a lone, weaponless attacker. While 56 percent of men were assaulted by strangers, just 24 percent of females were attacked by strangers. Women were most commonly victimized by someone they knew, usually an intimate partner (husband, ex-husband, boyfriend or ex-boyfriend). Women were most likely to suffer minor or severe injuries at the hands of an intimate partner than anyone else." -- If most of the attackers were unarmed, a pistol would give a woman a distinct advantage - an advantage she likely wouldn't have against a much bigger, stronger male assailant.
