Warren Mayor Jim Fouts announced active shooter police training for all places of worship.

Fouts, mayor of the state's third-largest city, posted on social media Thursday that police training will be made available to all churches, mosques and synagogues in response to the deadly mass shooting in Sutherland Springs Texas last Sunday.

In his post, Fouts wrote:

"In light of the recent tragic shooting in a Texas church, we will be taking a proactive measure to provide all churches, mosques, and synagogues with police training to deal with an active shooter in their places of worship.

"We hope this will better protect our houses of worship. In my opinion, it's better to be prepared than scared.

An FBI counterterrorism supervisor is the subject of an internal investigation after his gun was stolen following a night of drinking at a North Carolina hotel, officials said.

Robert Manson, a unit chief in the FBIs international terrorism section, was staying at a Westin hotel in Charlotte, N.C., during training in July when his Glock .40-caliber handgun was stolen.

According to the Times, Manson was incapacitated from drinking alcohol and a fellow agent, Kevin Thurman, reported the theft to the police. In the police report, the theft is noted as occurring sometime between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Submitters note: Criminals will always get guns regardless of all the laws that only restrict the rights of honest citizens.

Before I begin: This letter concerns gun control, but please dont turn off. No one is trying to take away your guns. The writers of the Bill of Rights werent referring to military grade weapons when they wrote about the right to bear arms. They werent talking about cannonsthey were talking about single repeat weapons to be used for self defense or hunting.

Ed.: They were, in fact, talking about cannons and warships as well.

America needs meaningful, sweeping and immediate federal action on guns.

1) No semi-automatic weapons of any kind, rifle, pistol or shotgun.

2) Bolt-action rifles only, with a minimum barrel length of 20-inches, and a maximum 4-round capacity (one round in the chamber, three rounds in the magazine).

3) Only the sale of over-and-under or side-by-side shotguns with a minimum barrel length of 20-inches would be legal (limiting the shooter to 2-rounds before reloading). No pump-action or semi-automatic shotguns; no pistol-grips or collapsible stocks.

4) Revolvers would be the only legal handguns, with 6-round cylinder maximum capacity and a 6-inch barrel length minimum.

Ed.: List continues.

On Wednesday, Senate Democrats led by Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced a bill that would ban the sale of more than 200 semi-automatic weapons and ammunition. Appealing to hoplophobia (fear of firearms) rather than sober reasoning and the facts, Feinstein advocated for further limiting Americans Second Amendment right to self-defense while at the same time promoting the flawed promise of statist utopia. Feinstein pontificated, Were introducing an updated Assault Weapons Ban for one reason so that after every mass shooting with a military-style assault weapon, the American people will know that a tool to reduce these massacres is sitting in the Senate, ready for debate and a vote.

Subject to an exception for grandfathered firearms, the bill would prohibit AR-15s and dozens of other semi-automatic rifles by name (as well as their variants or altered facsimiles), and any semi-automatic rifle that could accept a detachable magazine and be equipped with a pistol grip, an adjustable or detachable stock, or a barrel shroud. And thats just a partial list. Pistol grip would be defined as a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip, meaning the ban could implicate even traditional stocks or grips specifically designed to comply with existing state assault weapon laws.

Homeowners and taxpayers must step up our activism and get the right to defend ourselves, Weinberger explained. I did not own a firearm when I moved to New Orleans. But by 2011, I realized crime was so bad the if you didnt protect yourself, the chances of a police officer being close enough to actually protect you if a criminal was about to attack was close to zero. Basically, we have to defend ourselves, said Weinberger.

DC: Good Reason to Cheer D.C. Carry License Applications Skyrocket in October

One estimate is that D.C.s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) had denied licenses to close to 80 percent of applicants because of a failure to satisfy the good reason rules. Now that this requirement has been judicially eliminated, carry license applications have jumped sharply. A year ago, October and November each showed only a single National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) check done in relation to permits in D.C., as was the case again in September of 2017. This October, however, 145 District residents have had permit-based NICS checks.

Well then. Lest we be accused of "magical thinking" when it comes to the Texas tragedy, let's look at the empirical facts. Here's a big one: In the case of the deaths of 26 people at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, the federal government the same sprawling, bureaucratic behemoth that die-hard gun control advocates insist we trust with every element of our personal safety screwed up big time.

Addressing a somber circle of Utah pastors, Charles Huyck focused on one message: If you don't have a plan, you're going to be a victim.

"As a Christian community, its time for us to stand up," Huyck said. "Evil is going to keep coming, but were going to keep doing what were doing."

More than a dozen church leaders from evangelical congregations across the Wasatch Front gathered Thursday at the Salt Lake Christian Center to share their thoughts on the recent mass shooting at a Texas church, as well as recent violence in Las Vegas and New York.

Within its double doors lies the scene of the greatest mass murder in Texas history, which took 26 lives and wounded 20 more. The weapon was nearly the same as every mass shooting in recent U.S. history: a Ruger AR-556 gas-powered, military-grade semiautomatic, more killing machine than mere rifle.

Wielded by Devin Kelley, it was one of the 5 million AR-15-type weapons in this country, a kissing cousin to America's standard-issue combat weapon. Along with supposedly civilian versions of Russian, Chinese and German combat weapons, this is the weapon of choice for mass killers from Aurora to Newtown, from San Bernardino to Orlando, Las Vegas and now, Wilson County, Texas. Only the 9 mm pistol, also semi-automatic, is as prevalent.

In proximity, the United States and Canada couldnt be closer. But when it comes to gun control, the two countries couldnt be further apart.

A majority of the people do not feel the need to have a gun because were quite safe, says Debbie Thorburn, a Windsor, Ontario resident.

In Canada, they talk about guns differently because they look at guns differently.

You have the Second Amendment, said Brian Green, a manager at General Guns in Windsor. We dont.

Where ERPOs are believed to be most often effective is in stemming suicides. For example, Everytown cites a study of the law in Connecticut (where it has been in place the longest) that states that from 1999 to 2013, For every 10 or 11 gun removal cases, one suicide was averted -- an estimated 72 averted suicides.

Ed.: In other words, they are wrong 90% of the time and are violating people's fundamental civil rights on mere suspicion.

Lets get down to basics. People kill people with guns. When the Second Amendment was written, guns were, primarily, muskets not what we know as guns.

Almost the entire civilized world has limited guns, and the result has been fewer deaths by guns in each country. Simple, isnt it?

The Constitution changes from time to time. Amendments can do that.

Massachusetts is the first state since the deadly shooting in Las Vegas last month to ban bump stocks, the gun accessory the shooter used to increase his rate of fire.

Bump stocks became a major source of discussion among lawmakers across the country after the attachments were found on the guns of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock, who killed 58 and injured some 500 last month. But talk of banning the devices nationwide appears to have stalled.

Florida Carry is raising money off a case filed at the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of a gun-toting man arrested in 2012.

The costs involved in bringing a case to the U.S. Supreme Court are considerable, the Second Amendment advocacy group said in an email to members Wednesday. Florida Carry is not alone in funding this effort, but our share is on par with national level organization participation. For a statewide grassroots group, this is a large financial burden to bear.

The Supreme Court on Nov. 21 is expected to consider whether to take up the challenge to the constitutionality of a Florida law that bars people from openly carrying firearms in public.

We love hearing this message coming from such huge voices in country music.

In a new feature for Billboard, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill used their platform to speak out in support of gun control.

After a year full of tragedy and heartbreaking loss, it's about time we all realize this is a bipartisan public safety issue.

The Nashville power couple felt inclined to discuss the issue following the deadly shooting at Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas in October that left 58 dead and 527 injured.

Meanwhile, anti-gun campaigners cling to the belief that they are a cadre of dedicated pragmatists who merely seek sensible gun-control laws. No doubt there are some who fit this description. But given how the most vocal advocates of gun control tend to get basic facts wrong and have a history of praising countries such as Australia, which all but banned guns outright for normal citizens, it's easy to see why gun-rights supporters are suspicious about what their real goal is.

In 2015, the New York Times ran its first front-page editorial in 95 years to call for, in part, the confiscation of millions of guns. Last month, columnist Bret Stephens called for outright repeal of the Second Amendment.

Twenty-six shot dead in a church and a painted rock commands more than half of The Tribunes front page?

This is exactly the time we should be probing deeply into gun deaths in United States of America. Last year, there were over 38,000 lives lost to guns. Gun homicides have gone up. And no one dares to mention the elephant in the room? Its not mental health treatment, but easy access to military-style weapons. Mass shootings occur in the U.S. almost daily. No other country comes close. More guns make us safer? Just the opposite.
