A nine-year-old, 300-pound female grizzly bear is dead after attacking two pheasant hunters near Pendroy, Montana. According to reports, the grizzly, who had three cubs with her, was bedded down in some willows when the hunters approached looking for pheasants. The bear initially charged one of the dogs before turning to attack the hunters.

The investigation is ongoing, but it looks like a self-defense incident, Wesley Sarmento, a Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MFWP) grizzly bear management specialist, told the Great Falls Tribune.

One of the hunters tried to scare the bear off, firing his 12-gauge shotgun into the air; however, that didnt work.

In the Nov. 8 letter in the Victoria Advocate, "Mental health, access to weapons is a real issue," the writer lays at least part of the blame for the Nov. 5 shooting in Sutherland Springs on the five million members of the National Rifle Association - of which I am a proud life member. It is natural to want to blame someone, but that is an unfair indictment of your friends and neighbors, as NRA members are not doing these shootings.

Superior Court Judge Andy Spivey issued his ruling on the murder charges against Caleb Barrett on Tuesday afternoon, November 7, and dismissed the murder indictments. Spivey ruled that Barrett was reasonably justified in standing his ground and shooting Lea Merritt as a matter of self-defense.

MO: Limit long guns' potential for a high casualty count

There is no need for a long gun to have a magazine that holds more than five rounds and no need for the magazine to be detachable. Magazines should be reloaded one round at a time through the breech. If long guns were limited in this manner, it would greatly diminish the potential for a high casualty count when the next disturbed person decides to start shooting at a large gathering with a semiautomatic rifle.

TX: Despite popular stereotype, Texas isnt the Wild West

Long steeped in Wild West lore, Texas often evokes images of horses clip-clopping down city streets and residents with guns strapped on their hips as they go about their daily business.

But the Lone Star State was among the first to bar residents from carrying handguns in public that was back in 1871. It was one of the strictest prohibitions at the time and would remain in place for more than a century.

Even now, as state lawmakers continue to steadily remove gun restrictions, Texas doesnt allow permitless carry, which is allowed in at least 10 other states.

This time, the the fire and the fury of American mass murder erupted in church. Twenty-six people were killed, including children, one only 18 months old.

How do we stroke their memory? How do we move forward? This is bigger than gun control. We should begin, I think, by envisioning a world beyond mass murder: a world where rage and hatred are not armed and, indeed, where our most volatile emotions can find release long before they become lethal.

TX: After Massacre, a Texas Town Says More Guns are the Answer

The mass shooting at First Baptist Church that killed 26 people and wounded 20 others has not made the residents of this rural area east of San Antonio reconsider their belief in guns. It has only reinforced the sense that the answer to America's mass shooting problem is not gun control. It's more guns -- more guns in the hands of good people who can stop the bad guy.

After all, they say, the shooter, Devin Patrick Kelley, was stopped by a neighbor of the church, Stephen Willeford, who confronted him with a rifle. Without Willeford's armed response, there's no telling how many more would've died.

NY: Gun control doesnt work to stop crime

A hushed up Centers for Disease Control study under President Barack Obama admitted gun control does not reduce crime, but that doesnt stop the liberal left from exploiting victims to push their socialist agenda, and their gun lies cannot go unchallenged.

We currently have about 20,000 gun laws (aka, infringements), from background checks for all guns sold by dealers, including internet sales and gun shows, all handguns, and all sales across state lines. Forty-five of the 50 worst mass shootings occurred outside of America, and 99 percent occurred in gun-free zones. They claim 35,000 gun violence deaths, but two-thirds are suicide.

Ill set the patronizing tone of such exhortations aside for a moment, in order to make a different observation: that when it comes to violence against women, domestic of otherwise, the left is guilty of the rankest hypocrisy. It never tires of telling women they should take responsibility for their own safety, but its irrational hatred of guns then gets in the way of the rational outcome of this argument: that women should arm themselves.

A church in Central New York has responded to the Texas church shooting by inviting its members to bring their guns to services.

"We are not a gun-free zone," a sign outside the Lighthouse Mexico Church of God in Oswego County says. The church's official website also includes a scrolling message that says "We are NOT a 'Gun free zone'- we protect our people!"

Pastor Ronald Russell tells Spectrum News that his church, located on S. Jefferson Street in Mexico, N.Y., has allowed congregants to openly carry guns since a shooting at a South Carolina church in 2015. Dylann Roof, a self-identified white supremacist, was convicted last year of killing nine black church members at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The NRA magazine American Rifleman has a regular column called The Armed Citizen, which consists of amazing stories which highlight accounts of law-abiding gun owners in America using their Second Amendment rights for self-defense against robbers, rapists, burglars, and other assailants. American Rifleman doesnt have a similar column with accounts of spouses shooting one another, jealous lovers shooting their exes, alcohol-fueled shootings on Saturday night, workplace revenge massacres, or children accidentally shooting their playmates, but no matter. The NRA is an advocacy organization putting out the best side of its story of armed self-reliance.

The shooting at a Southern Baptist church in Texas is believed to be the worst such shooting at a church in modern U.S. history.

Several prominent Southern Baptist pastors have President Donald Trumps ear as members of his unofficial evangelical advisory council. Even so, it would be very surprising if Southern Baptists pushed for changes in gun policy, because it hasnt been a priority for the denomination in decades.

Just as in the last two trials, Navarro has requested, and been granted, a motion in limine that prevents the defendants from talking about their First and Second Amendment rights.

The defense is not allowed to say the word "constitution" or talk about the BLM's actions that caused individuals to protest.

"They are not allowed to speak about the BLM killing cattle, they are not allowed to speak about self defense in front of the jury until the judge has a hearing outside the jury's presence about whether or not they can make that argument," Roots said.

Louisiana native Tim McGraw and his wife Faith Hill didn't perform at the event, but they were asked about it in an interview with Billboard less than two weeks later. Both said they want to see changes to gun laws.

"... Military weapons should not be in the hands of civilians," Hill said. "It's everyone's responsibility, including the government and the National Rifle Association, to tell the truth. We all want a safe country."

" ... There is some common sense that's necessary when it comes to gun control," McGraw said. "(Gun rights advocates) want to make it about the Second Amendment every time it's brought up. It's not about the Second Amendment."

Now we have another mass shooting at a church in Texas, with 26 people killed. This is just a few weeks after the Las Vegas shooting which killed 59 people. As after similar horrible shootings, many of our leaders say, This is not the time to talk about any limits on the purchase of guns. When on earth will that time come?

The Second Amendment was written well before the presence of guns which can kill many people in a very short time. That amendment speaks of the right to bear arms because a well regulated Militia (is) necessary for the security of a free state.

First of all, theres nothing wrong with the Second Amendment. James Madison, who wrote it, set the right to keep and bear arms in this context: A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state.

Clearly, the founding fathers were thinking Minutemen, not National Rifle Association fanatics or maniacs with AK-47 knockoffs.

How to Talk to Your Kids About Guns

Here are two true statements:

1. The number of privately held firearms in America has nearly doubled in the last two decades while the number of gun murders per capita was cut in half.

2. The number of kids abducted by strangers in 2011 was 105, out of approximately 73 million children in the United States. That's down slightly from 115 two decades ago.

After Stephen Paddock killed 58 people and injured hundreds more by firing into a crowd from the 32nd floor of his Las Vegas hotel in October, America dove headfirst into our now-traditional national shoutfest about gun laws.

In the following nine mass shootings, there were 974 shooting victims (264 killed & 706 wounded) to wit:

...

If the shooter had not used an assault weapon, 929 of the victims probably would not have been killed or wounded.

I do not know how congressional members opposed to banning assault weapons can sleep at night. They prioritize reelection over the safety of U.S. citizens, which includes Rep. Vern Buchanan.

Ed.: I guess even the shooters that had multiple weapons couldn't have used them, nor could they have reloaded them.

In just the last two years, former FBI agent J. Pete Blair, author of the FBIs Study of Active Shooter Incidents in the United States Between 2000 and 2013," has trained more than 130,000 citizens in how to respond to the sudden presence of an active shooter. Blair now leads the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training program at Texas State University. Said Blair: Weve seen a series of incidents and an increase in lethality [but] it could be that weve had a really unlucky few weeks.

Northam has said thoughts and prayers arent enough. Proud of his F rating from the NRA, he called for universal background checks for gun buyers, an assault weapons ban and smaller ammunition clips. He promised to reinstate the one-gun-a-month limit on gun purchases.

Northam beat Gillespie 54 to 45 percent.

South Carolina has weak laws when it comes to guns. Go to any gun show and in some cases the seller will be less worried about your background than making the sale.

Straw sales are still a big problem. Stop allowing semiautomatic and fully automatic (bump-stock) weapons to be sold to the general public; these are weapons of war.

School teachers dont need to carry guns in school, and we dont need stupid laws that allow the public to carry guns in bars and restaurants. Even worse is the idiotic constitutional carry proposal.

That's all well and good, but the show could have used a bit more gun control rhetoric, according to Washington Post contributing music writer Chris Richards. Why didn't the awards show use the opportunity to call for gun control, he wondered in his Friday op-ed. He was especially "disheartened" by Brad Paisley, who he said was "acquiescing to Nashvilles disengagement reflex" and encouraging fans to ignore the violence - at least that's how he interpreted the song "Heaven South."
