"Anti-gun Chicago Mayor Richard Daley has reached a new low in his attempt to blame the Fort Hood massacre on firearms, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today."
"'Mayor Daley is deplorably capitalizing on the outrage at Fort Hood to push his gun prohibition agenda,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. 'This is the height of moral bankruptcy from a man whose administration was sued Wednesday morning by the Chicago inspector general over apparent interference with an investigation into possible wrongdoing by current and former city employees.'" ... |

"Do you get paid for what you do? How about your paper--do they make money?"

"Yesterday's article about Dick's Sporting Goods sparked a few questions from readers about my habit of carrying a firearm in Home Depot (mentioned at the end of the article)."
"Home Depot prohibits its employees from carrying firearms in the workplace, but it does not have a similar policy in place with respect to customers. Home Depot's policy is to follow state law, which in this case means that it will permit, in Georgia, openly carried or concealed handguns by patrons." ... -------

"A recent article in the Telegraph discusses the rise of 'ladies-only gun camps.' Why ladies-only? The article doesn't say, but I know that similar training efforts have been sex-segregated because some women feel a bit intimidated by the inevitable 'let me show you how it's done, little lady' behavior that some guys exhibit as if there's something intrinsically masculine about shooting a gun."
"Of course, there isn't. Nor should this be a surprise. The tragedy at Fort Hood was ended by a female police officer. What might have been an even bigger massacre in Colorado Springs two years ago was stopped because an armed woman named Jeanne Assam stopped a mass murderer with a rifle and 1,000 rounds of ammunition in the lobby of a church." ... |

"Much has been written ... about the impending McDonald v. City of Chicago case to be heard by the Supreme Court ... In this case, the [SAF] and [ISRA] are challenging Chicago's handgun ban (the NRA also eventually became involved)."
"Probably the biggest issue that will be decided here is whether or not the Second Amendment is to be incorporated by the Fourteenth Amendment, and thus apply to state and local governments, as well as to the feds. If SCOTUS does decide in favor of incorporation (which seems to be the expected outcome), then Chicago's outright ban of handguns will be history--although Heller illustrates to us that just about every conceivable lesser restriction will still be on the table." ... |

"Shouldn't an army base be the last place where a terrorist should be able to shoot at people uninterrupted for 10 minutes? After all, an army base is filled with soldiers who carry guns, right? Unfortunately, that is not the case. Beginning in March 1993, under the Clinton administration, the army forbids military personnel from carrying their own personal firearms and mandates that 'a credible and specific threat against [Department of the Army] personnel [exist] in that region' before military personnel 'may be authorized to carry firearms for personal protection.' Indeed, most military bases have relatively few military police as they are in heavy demand to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan." ... |

"Chicago Mayor Richard Daley has given new ammunition to gun rights advocates with his astonishing suggestion that the Fort Hood massacre was made possible because 'America loves guns.'"
"Daley had been touring a school project on Monday of this week that expands the city's Arabic language program when reporters asked whether the thought the Fort Hood incident would spark a backlash against Muslims. His reaction, captured on video, has been raising eyebrows since it flashed across the Internet, and it reaffirms what Mark Twain once observed: 'It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.'" ... |

An angry, frustrated, depressed man who cannot stand his circumstances or face his future decides not only to end his own life but to avenge himself on the group he holds responsible. "The shooting at Ft. Hood in Texas underscores again the problem with a disarmed populace: The base is a gun free zone. A condition created for a killing field. There is no way of predicting when or where someone will appear with a gun and begin killing. I have previously written about the futility of trying to stop someone the first time they become criminal. In the last week we had a shooting in Florida, Texas and Oregon. It is clear that life and death are decided in seconds, or at most minutes. Police are almost useless because the damage is done by the time they arrive. They can arrest or kill the shooter, then count the bodies."
