... "... Now that looks like a 'Human Target' who wouldnt emerge from Virginia Tech a professional victim hitting the Oprah circuit! ..." -------
Submitter's Note: Thursday's Gun Rights Examiner column looks at two human targets, one fictional, and asks why real ones should be required.

... "Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but when, in a discussion about government violence, Horwitz brings up the 'unbelievable amount of firepower on the streets' the officers are 'faced with,' it seems as if he's saying that law enforcement would kill fewer citizens, if gun laws were even more restrictive than they are now. In other words (while I'm going out on a limb here anyway), maybe if we banned so-called 'assault weapons' (for example), fewer citizens would be gunned down by their supposed 'protectors.'"
"Come to think of it, isn't that exactly the kind of political bullying that Horwitz purports to decry? ..." ... |

"Ear plugs in place, a firm grip, the smell of burnt gunpowder in the air, and shell casings all over the floor-and a picture of a would-be mugger goes 25 feet forward. A magazine full of fresh, 125-grain full metal jacket 9mm bullets are inserted into the cold, metallic grip of a handgun. Suddenly, all 15 shots make their way from the barrel of the gun and downrange, making neat 9mm sized holes into an orange paper 'bad guy.'"
"At a small gun range in Concord, North Carolina, a mother of three, practices with the weapon she keeps in her car for protection. Like millions of other law-abiding citizens, this stay-at-home mom exercises her Second Amendment right to protect herself from violent thugs who often plague society." ... |

"Product designer Montie Roland is a gun guy. One day, not to so very long ago, the former competitive shooter took his two girls to the range. Roland was weighed down by the usual clobber: guns, ammo and range bags. Oh, and a shooting rest. As Roland told TTAG, the 'I got to thinking, 'why is this thing so big and heavy?' Why indeed. The result: the all-American (down to the smallest screws) aluminium X-Rest and AR-Rests. ..." ... |

"But Hinds County Assistant District Attorney Kimalon Melton argued it was murder. She told jurors Wednesday that Hawthorne was unarmed and Pannu didn't have to kill him."
"'The question is do we value a $14.99 case of beer over the life of a human being,' Melton said."
