Were still trying to process how Gov. Ralph Northam is even in office, but thats another story. Just days after Democrats seized control of both chambers of Virginias General Assembly, Northam told NPR that one of his top priorities would be passing gun control laws in the state.

And the New York Times reports that the governor hasnt ruled out the confiscation of assault weapons, which we all know means popular semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15. (The wooden ones probably dont count; they dont look as scary.)

Well, it began in 1794 when George Washington designated the original Springfield Armory as our national armory to begin manufacturing muskets for defense of our country. The innovation continues, and last year Springfield Armory introduced their short-barreled .380-caliber 911 pistol with an enhanced G10 pivoting single-action trigger with 1911-styling for concealed carry. I do like the 1911 styling. Just recently and new for 2019, they have introduced the 911 sub-compact with 1911 styling in 9mm caliber. With the plethora of sub-compact 3-inch barreled 9mms in the market now, I was anxious for Springfield to send me this new sub-compact pistol for Testing & Evaluation.

As far back as the American Revolution and the Civil War, when they disguised themselves as male soldiers, women have a long history of proudly serving their country. During World War I, they served as nurses. In World War II they took on roles in aviation, medicine, communications, intelligence, science and technology. In 2013, for many, their roles crossed into uncharted territory as the U.S. Department of Defense reversed its ban on women serving in combat.

Veterans Day, celebrated each year on November 11th, was first celebrated on this same date in 1919, under the name of Armistice Day. The holiday was named in remembrance of the temporary ceasefire that brought about the unofficial end to World War I when, the year before, the Allied forces entered into an armistice with the Germans, stopping live battle on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

Hunting wildlife has long been ingrained in Michigans culture, but it is currently on a decline across the state as young adults opt to participate in other activities. Michigan had as many as 1.2 million hunters in the 1970s, 80s and into the 90s. But MLive.com reported Sunday that by 2018, less than 675,000 people had at least one hunting license in the state.

At the current rate of acceleration, backcountry hunting will soon be more popular than the Kardashians. And with good reason: private property aside, the backcountrymeaning anyplace that requires the extensive use of legs or a bush plane to accessis the only place left where we can escape the hordes and find truly good hunting. Its yours for the finding; all you need is desire, some gear, a bit of skill and a good pair of shoes.

Hunting the big woods of the North Country is different than any other kind of whitetail deer hunting. The severe winters keep deer populations relatively low and huge expanses of land are populated with only the few deer that can survive in a much smaller winter habitat. In these big-country wilderness areas, deer densities are low and there are often miles and miles of empty country between trophy bucks.

In recent weeks, gun owners have been given two prime examples of just how important strong firearms preemption laws are to the vibrant exercise of Second Amendment rights. On October 22, the Montana Supreme Court struck down a Missoula ordinance that purported to restrict city residents ability to transfer firearms. On October 29, Allegheny County Common Pleas Senior Judge Joseph M. James struck down a raft of Pittsburgh ordinances that purported to regulate the use of firearms in public places within the city and provide for the confiscation of firearms without due process. In both instances the tribunals pointed to the state firearms preemption statute as precluding the localitys anti-gun efforts.
