"I took the liberty (what few of those I have left) of putting President Bush's November 8 speech at the Georgia World Congress Center into the LewRockwell.com "truth translator".
This fun, little tool examines and interprets the rhetoric of government spokespersons, and translates such twaddle into the statist prose that it actually represents.
What emerges from the translator in this instance is an incriminating verbal assault on the sovereignty of all Americans..." --Karen DeCoster |

"...law enforcement agencies have not noticed any increase in the number of people applying for concealed weapons permits..."
Los Angeles police spokesman Jason Lee would not say how many concealed weapons permits the LAPD grants, but there aren't many. "You can count them on one hand," he said.
KABA NOTE: This article says both that sales are on the rise AND that it is in decline in CA. |

[Ashley] Nettles will join about 1,500 other high school students at 10:15am Tuesday at Bass Performance Hall for a citywide event, "Imagine: No Violence." The purpose? To teach kids how they can help create a safer community.
Mayor Kenneth Barr said, "This will be a chance for young people to go on record about how they feel about violence, and maybe help us come up with some solutions to the problem."
The original "Safe Cities" program steers gun-related cases to the federal system, where sentences are considerably longer. |

"Ironically, pilots today are being asked to assume risk and responsibility for the safety of as many as 435 passengers and multimillion-dollar aircraft -- without being provided the means to defend themselves from acts of piracy onboard their aircraft. ...
Guns for cockpit crews are a necessary item of life support and survival equipment needed on airliners in the geopolitical climate that exists today." --Stan Smilan, retired airline pilot |

On the subject of terrorism, South Dakota Gov. William Janklow said terrorists and their associates should be treated like prisoners of war.
Instead of giving them attorneys, "you've got to kill the prisoners of war or put them in POW camps. They're soldiers, they're going to kill you if you don't."
Janklow said if someone kills a terrorist in his state, "I'm going to pardon them." |

Don Bird, a Rancho Tehama resident who never leaves home without a sign reading "Gun registration: Just say no," displayed on the back window of his station wagon, standing outside Raley's supermarket dressed as Samuel Adams.
"Samuel Adams was the original rebel," said Bird, 67. "He was a rebel that won fame as the man who instigated the Revolutionary War."
"Bird's own rebellion is against state officials who have passed gun control laws that are...a clear infringement..." |

A US Airways plane from Pittsburgh to Reagan Washington National Airport was diverted to Washington Dulles International Airport because of an unruly passenger. A Marshall was on board and he handled it. BUT -- all the passengers "were ordered to put our hands above our heads, and then we were quickly diverted to Washington-Dulles."

Violent crimes in Michigan should decrease slightly in the first year of less-restrictive gun laws, according to a national expert, but a local prosecutor isn't buying it.
John Lott, a research scholar with the American Enterprise Institute in Washington and author of "More Guns, Less Crime," debated the issue Wednesday with Washtenaw County Prosecutor Brian Mackie. The two participated in an hour-long discussion on the University of Michigan campus hosted by the U-M Law School. |

"The reason this particular group (Violence Policy Center) chose to attack our businesses is because it is a gun control issue," Smith said. "It has nothing to do with terrorists, the war. It has to do with politics.
"And, in my opinion, it's very unpatriotic for them to do this at this time, for us to have to put out so many fires and spend so much time talking about insane accusations when we should be supporting our military," she said. |

A Second Amendment rights group says an amendment to the Aviation Security Act authorizing pilots and flight engineers on commercial airliners to be armed may not survive a House-Senate conference committee.
"After seeing the list of names, it is not certain how the 'armed pilots' provision will fare," said a GOA press release. "The committee is almost evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, and some of the anti-gun Republicans could very well vote with the other side." |

The latest misinformation and propaganda from the mis-named "Violence Policy Center".
Example: "Adding a handgun to a volatile domestic situation only increases the risk of fatal violence to a woman."
KABA NOTE: Of course, they don't mention the times when that gun is in the WOMENS' hands so they can protect themselves. |

"The various organizations that make up the anti-gun lobby have suffered an unprecedented series of defeats in the past year. Since many activists are motivated by a deep hatred of guns and gun owners, they will not simply go away. They will instead retool their approach to make use of limited resources. ...
"Anti-gun organizations have been forced to fall back on a basic and inexpensive tactic: putting their own slant on the news." --Dr. Michael S. Brown |
