The California mass shooting that cost the lives of a dozen people has immediately brought demands for stricter gun-control laws, but California is a state with very strict gun laws already. How many of those laws were violated by the murderer? Even the ones he obeyed did not prevent the tragedy. He reportedly purchased the pistol legally.

Three people have been killed and 17 others wounded in Chicago gun violence since Friday evening. Much of the bloodshed reported this weekend unfolded Sunday, when at least 13 people were shot � one fatally. Two people were killed and four others were wounded on Saturday. Meanwhile, the start of the weekend was markedly less violent, with only one shooting, which was nonfatal, documented on a snowy Friday.

Washington gun shop owners expect an increase in sales after state voters approved an initiative that adds restrictions to the purchase of semi-automatic rifles. Voters last week passed Initiative 1639, which will raise the purchase age for semi-automatic rifles to 21. Starting next year, buyers will be required to pass an enhanced background check and prove they have taken a firearms-training course. They must wait 10 business days to take possession of the gun, the Seattle Times reported.
