Would-be Obama aides must disclose Web posts, Facebook profiles

If you want a job in an Obama administration, be prepared to disclose every blog post or comment you've ever written.

A nine-page questionnaire requires applicants to list--and if possible, provide copies of--all "posts or comments on blogs or other Web sites" they have ever made. Also required are "aliases" or nicknames used on those sites.

Translated into English, this means that President-elect Obama wants to know far more about you than his predecessors did. That requirement would force applicants to disclose information about Facebook and MySpace pages, profiles posted on dating Web sites, and even what was posted on Web sites like CNET and YouTube that allow readers to append comments.

Across the country, people afraid that Barack Obama will take away their gun rights are rushing to buy firearms. The word for such people is: suckers.

Save your money for the mortgage. Save a restaurant worker's job by going out to eat. Democrats are not going to stop you from buying a gun. They are not going to take away the gun(s) you have. If you are a decent, law-abiding adult, it will not become illegal for you to buy or own a gun.

More people are enrolling in gun permit classes in Tennessee.

In the last year, the number of hand gun permits in Tennessee has jumped. In 2007, a little more than 186,000 people applied for permits. As of mid-November, 196,000 have applied this year.

Some people said they were worried about possible changes in gun laws when the president-elect Barack Obama administration takes office.

What Ive Learned from Gun Nuts

Ive owned guns for more than a half-century, going waaaay back to the days when I prowled around in shelterbelts with my single-shot .22 stalking cottontails, shooting gophers for the $0.03/tail bounty, plinking blackbirds of the telephone lines, and taking my bolt-action 16-guage to school with me so I could shoot pheasants....

I consider my right to bear arms one of my basic freedoms, but not the only one, so buckle up, gun nuts. I happen to think other amendments to our constitution such as Number 1 (freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition), ..., 14 (equal protection under the law), 19 and 26 (right to vote for women and all citizens over 18) and others might actually be more important than Number 2.

NJ: Banning Guns by the Size of the Hole in the Barrel

It seems that those intent on dismantling the Second Amendment brick by brick have found a new target of opportunity to demonize and ban: guns with a larger hole in the barrel than others.

On November 17, the New Jersey Assembly is set to consider A2116, which bans most firearms which shoot projectiles of 50 caliber or larger.

Many hunting and historical firearms fall into this category, so A2116 would ironically ban Revolutionary and Civil War flintlocks and muskets that won the very freedom that the legislation seeks to take away, not to mention popular hunting rifles. It could also ban a truly evil scourge of society that shoots 100+ caliber projectiles: marshmallow guns.

One year ago today, a 61-year old Texan named Joe Horn looked out his window in Pasadena, just outside of Houston, and saw a pair of black men on his neighbor's property. It appeared to be a burglary in action, so he called 911. But as he described what he saw to the emergency dispatcher, he began to get agitated. The police would take too long to get there, he decided. Instead, he'd stop the crime himself.

UT: Violence aimed at churches signals need for better security

Religious institutions tend to be easy targets for those seeking violent retribution. Many faiths mandate that congregants welcome any and all people. The vulnerability this approach creates is heightened by clergy and congregants who assume every human being has reverence for houses of faith and thus would not dare violate their sanctity.

But the rise in deadly school, business and church shootings is forcing religious leaders to re-evaluate security strategies. Churches are assigning volunteers to guard their doors; some of these volunteers are armed. In December, a volunteer guard at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo., wounded a gunman who had killed three people in the church parking lot before turning the gun on himself.

"I've been to some shooting ranges, and some of the customers say to me, 'Wow, it feels like youre shooting with gang bangers here,'" Cooper said. Thats not what we want here. Our whole goal is to make this a family-friendly place. ..."

The key to achieving that, he said, is requiring memberships. He runs the place like a health clubwell, a health club that scans your finger before giving you a code to the door that leads to the rangeand the prices work the same way. He charges an initiation fee, then a monthly membership, but once youre paid for the month, you can use the range as much as you want (you pay for the ammo, of course, and you bring your own gun, although he does rent them).

Handgun purchases in Wisconsin skyrocketed 82% in the days before and after Barack Obama's election as president compared with the same 13 days in November last year, figures on state background checks show.

Most of the early November background checks took place after the Nov. 4 presidential election, a sign that gun owners anticipate new restrictions with Democrats taking control of the federal government.

Calls for background checks that are required for the purchase of handguns have flooded the state agency. In the first 13 days of the month, 2,642 background checks were requested. During the same 13 days last November, 1,453 background checks were performed, state Justice Department spokesman Bill Cosh said.

Gun owners arent waiting to see what change President-elect Barack Obama will bring to Washington, D.C., when he becomes the nations 44th president on Jan. 20.

Fearful that an Obama administration and a Democrat-controlled Congress will mean tighter firearms restrictions, gun buyers are stocking up on handguns, rifles, ammunition and accessories.

Im sold out in many items, and restocking is the hard part, said Jake Hosman, whose family owns C&C Guns Sales in east Vancouver. Theres no beating around the bush. Everyone is worried about the Clinton (military-style) gun ban coming back, so they are picking them up as quickly as they can.

Residents and visitors of a city that thrives on history had a chance for something a little different Thursday, when a national firearms and self-defense expert gave a presentation on one of the most defining moments in American history.

Energy efficiency for Northrop's chains is supposedly in the 20 per cent region. This suggests that a full-bore 100kW battle ray will weigh about 1.5 tonnes and require half a megawatt of power. That's pretty hefty, but it's within the ballpark for modern combat vehicles.

Portable blaster rifles or carbines aren't really on the cards yet, then. But a reasonably useful laser tank could well be a goer if Northrop can do what they say.

There was no word on possible waterproof versions, with handy attachments for mounting on the head of one's hollowed out volcano lair swimming-pool menagerie.

It amazes me that people are running to gun shops and buying up guns because they think President-elect Obama will rewrite the Constitution and do away with the Second Amendment.

Like every other vicious lie that was spread about him over the airwaves and Internet, no one bothered to hear him say that he believes in the Second Amendment but wants to get the assault weapons off the street.

After all, what does a homeowner need with an AK-47? Surely, you wouldn't shoot a defenseless deer with it. Law enforcement is already outmanned by such weapons on the street. How many times do we read where an assault weapon was used in a home invasion or robbery?

Fears that Obama and a Democrat-controlled Congress will strip away Second Amendment rights has customers lining up at gun shops all over the country, and here in the Kanawha Valley.

Even those unfamiliar with the trigger are wandering into stores to buy a gun for the very first time.

"We have a tremendous amount of first-time gun buyers," said Jeff Beane, owner of St. Albans Gun and Archery. "They say they want a gun in their house before Obama does anything stupid with them."

WHEN the U.S. Supreme Court in June found for the first time an individual right to bear arms, as opposed to a collective right, we noted that if a liberal justice writing for the majority performed a similar feat of legal gymnastics, "the word 'activist' would be ringing throughout the land."....

The Times also quoted Judge Richard Posner, who wrote in the New Republic in August that the Heller decision "is evidence that the Supreme Court, in deciding constitutional cases, exercises a freewheeling discretion strongly flavored with ideology."

Obama was being misleading when he denied that his handwriting had been on a document endorsing a state ban on the sale and possession of handguns in Illinois.

If there was any issue on which Obama rarely deviated, it was gun control. He was the most strident candidate when it came to enforcin and expanding gun control laws.

If you want to wring the maximum level of power performance out of your rifle or handgun, then try a box of Buffalo Bore ammo and prepare to be impressed. This ammo hurts at both ends when you pull the trigger, but I guarantee whatever the skinny end of the gun is aimed at gets the worst of it. Buffalo Bore loads use specially imported non-canister powders to jack up the power of cartridges to the limit. For that reason, it's use is only recommended in certain firearms, a list of which can be found for each load on the company's website and on the ammo box.

It's been a week and a half since Barack Obama was elected president. He won't take office for another two months. But he's already got one big group of Americans on their feet.

Seeking to reassure gun owners, Mr. Obama told a campaign audience in Ohio in October: "I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won't take your handgun away."

But the crowds mobbing America's gun stores this week say a large number of Americans -- including first-time gun buyers -- don't believe him.

STEELTON, Pa. -- No charges will be filed against a man who shot at a burglar in his home Thursday, Steelton police said.

Officers were called to the 500 block of Lincoln Street just after 3 p.m.

A resident called police and said he was holding a burglar at gunpoint.

The resident had caught the burglar in the second floor of his home, police said.

Before police arrived the burglar placed his hand in his pocket, which made the victim believe he was armed. The victim fired three shots at the burglar who fled.

It's not known if the burglar was injured.

The suspected burglar is a Hispanic male, about 5 foot 7 inches tall with some facial hair and a pony tail.

This week, it became clear that the new administrations anti-gun agenda even infects the process of staffing the administration. A widely disseminated questionnaire for those applying for administration jobs asks:

(59) Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.

President-elect Barack Obamas transition team is showing its hostility toward lawful firearm owners by weeding out job applicants who own firearms themselves, a Second Amendment group says.

The Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) notes that question 59 part of a 63-item questionnaire given to Obama administration job applicants asks for information about firearms owned by the applicant and his or her family.

Found in the questionnaires Miscellaneous section, question 59 reads, Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.

Evidence of the Obama team's distaste for firearm owners may be found as Question 59 of a 63 item questionnaire administered by Obama staffers to all potential applicants for positions in the Obama White House. The question asks for sensitive information about firearms owned by the applicant and his/her family.

"Question 59 provides clear insight into how Obama and his people perceive firearm owners," said ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. The questionnaire poses a number of questions asking the applicant to reveal any unethical activities, or embarrassing Internet chats, then wraps up by asking if anyone in the applicant's family owns a firearm. Obviously, Obama feels that owning a firearm is akin to talking dirty in Internet

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. John Stuart Mills
