"Clearly, the place is a Bloombergian Paradise, giving the self-styled common sense gun safety zealots everything they publicly are willing to admit theyre after without revealing too many of the other cards in their hand. And here is yet another example of the failure of such edicts to do anything but make conditions more dangerous for those who have accepted being disarmed as their lot in life."

Jurors spent two hours and 40 minutes deliberating before finding 44-year-old Adam Brooks, who worked nine years for the Bryan police prior to his March 2011 arrest, guilty of the Class B misdemeanor offense, punishable by up to six months in prison and a $2,000 fine.

Vice President Joe Bidens message to immigration reform advocates: Dont let your issue die like gun control did.
Speaking on a conference call of Catholic clergy and other faith leaders, Biden said it will be incumbent upon immigration reformers to be louder and more engaged with Congress than reform opponents. ...
This kind of reminds me of the gun control kind of fights we had, and gun safety. You know, the people who dont want anything changed to have a more rational position, theyre the ones who show up in large numbers. The ones who strongly support us, they dont show up. You guys have to show up.
The White House lost its fight for expanded background checks for gun purchases when the Senate killed the legislation in April.

Pasco County Sheriff Deputies arrested a man last week after he allegedly attempted a daring heist. Deputies say 48-year-old Charles "Chuck" Barry went to the drive-thru of a Trinity Dunkin' Donuts, identified himself as law enforcement and then proceeded to demand a discount for donuts.
Smelling a rat, the clerk refused, drawing ire from the hungry impersonator who allegedly held up a gun -- still in its holster -- and said, "See, I'm a cop!" ...
After being identified by the vigilant crew of Dunkin Donuts, Barry was arrested and charged with one count of False Impersonation of a law Enforcement Officer and Improper Exhibition of a Firearm.

The tip line was set up in New York State by Gov. Andrew Cuomo as an outgrowth of the infamous SAFE Act, reports David Codrea, who quoted from a news item published in The Niagara Falls Reporter.

Rogelio Valencia peered out from a sandbag bunker outside Tepalcatepec in a fertile region of Mexico's Michoacan state, keeping an eye cocked for marauding gangsters.

"They might come in 10 or 12 pickups. But we are prepared," said Valencia, a civilian with a pistol tucked in his waistband and a two-way radio at hand.

Tepalcatepec is in a "liberated" region of Michoacan state, where an armed uprising of civilians has succeeded in lifting a yoke imposed by a crime group with a feudal-sounding name, the Knights Templar, which keeps a searing and heavy hand on the majority of Michoacan's 113 municipalities.

Minnesota statute states you can shoot an intruder, or even kill, if you feel threatened with great bodily harm or death, or if you are trying to prevent a felony from occurring in your home.
However, Minnesota does not have a stand-your-ground component.
The self-defense law contains a "duty to retreat' provision, through which a person facing a threat has a duty to retreat, where practical, before responding with reasonable force.

Adopting sensible gun reforms without affecting the Second Amendment is not an impossible task. With compromise to protect everyone's rights, this can be a reality. Comprehensive background checks and closing gun-show loopholes are two reasonable compromises to end our fast-and-loose gun sales. Reasonable, responsible law-abiding gun owners know this and are supportive of these reforms. It's not the only answer but it is one way to help keep guns out of the wrong hands like felons, domestic abusers and children.

Our towns impending bankruptcy symbolized New York Citys complete moral and financial breakdown. Even then, I didnt feel the need for personal protection.

But, two years ago, at the age of 70, I changed my mind. Was it watching my neighbors, friends and patients die on 9/11? Was it seeing the kids faces at Columbine? Was it reading about the slaughter of unarmed solders at Fort Hood? Was it old age? Who knows? But one thing was for sure. If I ever had to step up to the plate and protect my wife, children and, now my grandchildren, I would be ready.

Our new journey started when my wife and I, two 70 year old retirees, took a gun-safety and home-security course, given by an NRA instructor.

Knife Rights Knife Owners Protection Act, H.R.3478 (KOPA), was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives today by sponsor Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ).

Knife Rights Chairman Doug Ritter explained, KOPA will protect law-abiding knife owners travelling throughout the U.S. from the vagaries of restrictive state and local laws.

As long as possession of the particular knife is legal in the state where the journey starts and ends, and provided the knife is secured in accordance with KOPA, a knife owner would no longer be threatened with arrest simply for traveling from one place to another.

Now to our newsmaker interview with B. Todd Jones, the new director of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives. The agency, charged with keeping track of the nation's 300 million guns, lacked a permanent head for the last seven years. Jones was appointed shortly after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, and he was confirmed in July.

I spoke with him this afternoon at the bureau's headquarters here in Washington.
