...Some of the claims in the debate Saturday night and how they compare with the facts:
CLINTON: "Since we last debated in Las Vegas, nearly 3,000 people have been killed by guns. Two hundred children have been killed. This is an emergency." She said that in the same period there have been 21 mass shootings, "including one last weekend in Des Moines where three were murdered."
THE FACTS: The claim appears to be unsupported on all counts.
The Gun Violence Archive has recorded 11,485 gun deaths in the U.S. so far this year, an average of just under 1,000 per month, making Clinton's figure appear to be highly exaggerated. |

High heels and combat. Could these two things really go together? Recently, almost 30 women mostly in high heels assembled in a rehearsal place in Midtown Manhattan. These women were not rehearsing for a fashion show or any of it likes. Instead, these women were doing vigorous movements lke fierce kicks, hammer fists, chokeholds.

Deer hunting has a long and storied past not only in Upper Michigan, but in the state as a whole.
According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan had an abundant deer herd in the south prior to settlement. As farmers and settlers moved in, deer were exterminated by removal of cover and unregulated shooting. By 1870, deer in that area were mostly gone.

It seems it happens all too often lately. Waking up and turning to your favorite source of news and reading a headline about another mass shooting. The feeling that follows is one of sickness deep within; how could someone do such a terrible thing to fellow human beings?

On a cool, mostly clear October day at the Rabbit Creek Shooting Park, Brenda Trefren hammered home a message for two dozen women learning about carrying a firearm for personal safety: A gun cant keep you safe if you arent first safe with a gun.
Long before firing a round, the women-only class went step by step through the motions with fingers off the trigger. Grip. Pull. Rotate. Extend.
The students came for differing reasons. One womans home had been broken into, Trefren said. Another wanted to feel safer home alone. Others sought additional protection in the event of a bear encounter. That they were all women was no coincidence. Women-only classes are one niche served by Soldotna-based Majority Arms... |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
There are other things so clearly out of the power of Congress, that the bare recital of them is sufficient, I mean the "...rights of bearing arms for defence, or for killing game..." These things seem to have been inserted among their objections, merely to induce the ignorant to believe that Congress would have a power over such objects and to infer from their being refused a place in the Constitution, their intention to exercise that power to the oppression of the people. ALEXANDER WHITE (1787) |
