Earlier this year, a friend of mine invited me to the shooting range to test out his latest purchase. The experience reminded me that you get what you pay for. Or penny wise, pound foolish. Or fill in your favorite financial proverb here.
My friend had purchased an inexpensive handgun. No, thats not right. It was cheap. Real cheap. Despite uninspiring online reviews, despite another friends uninspiring first-hand experience with the same model, he was dazzled by the low price tag and that was that. |

Mass shootings, police violence, and street crime have been in the American news for decades and have been portrayed as intractable problems. Our schoolchildren are being trained to escape bullets as campuses become hardened targets rather than hubs of learning and growth. The gun violence epidemic in the United States is driven bya violent culture in the United States and access to guns, says Margari Hill, co-founder and executive director of the Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 40,000 people die from gun-related injuries each year in the United States. This number includes homicides, suicides, and accidental deaths. |

The federal ban on gun possession by people with certain kinds of criminal records is often described as applying to "felons," but that shorthand is misleading. The provision, 18 USC 922(g)(1), actually covers anyone convicted of "a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year." That is why Pennsylvania resident Edward A. Williams lost his right to own a gun after he was convicted of driving under the influence, a misdemeanor, in 2005. Had Williams defied Section 922(g)(1) by possessing a firearm, he would have been committing a federal felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison. |

So far in 2023 there have been more than 565 mass shootings, which the FBI defines as incidents in which at least four people are shot or killed. Gun-related incidents take the lives of 120 people a day in the nation and is the No. 1 cause of death of children, Dettelbach, J.D. 91, noted during a Monday evening talk at Harvard Kennedy School with Caroline Light, a senior lecturer, director of Undergraduate Studies in Women, Sexuality and Gender, and author of Stand Your Ground: A History of Americas Love Affair with Lethal Self Defense. |

The Springfield Armory Hellion has been out on the market close to 2 years now, and it in my mind is the bullpup people have always wanted. It has ambidextrous errrything so you can fluently run this machine regardless if youre a righty or lefty. You have an adjustable gas system to tune it to your exact liking for suppressed shooting or otherwise. It also has more simple yet appreciable features throughout like good ergonomics, solid accuracy, and an above average trigger for bullpup standards. All of that being said, I need to check myself at the door Im a bullpup hater. I like a common manual of arms weapon manipulation procedure. |

Enter the case of Edward Williams. In April 2000, he was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). He was arrested a second time for the same offense in 2001, and then again in 2004 and 2005. Despite this long and unhappy history of his battle with alcohol, he was never imprisoned. Instead he was placed under house arrest for 90 days, was ordered to pay costs and a fine of $1,500, and to complete a rehab program.
But, like Range, he was, under that same federal law, deprived of his rights under the Second Amendment. Wrote Judge John Milton Younge in Williams v. Garland: |

The Second Amendment, which codifies Americans right to bear arms, will not loosen its grasp on American politics any time soon. On Nov. 7, the Supreme Court of the United States finished hearing arguments in the United States v. Rahimi case, which considers whether the Second Amendment should extend to domestic abusers. The plaintiff, Zackey Rahimi, committed a series of shootings after being placed under a domestic violence protective order. |

The new Colorado gun law that went into effect Oct. 1, imposes a three-day period that will stay in effect. A judge made the decision on Monday.
In August, Rocky Mountain Gun Owners filed a lawsuit claiming the news three-day trial law violated the Second Amendment, but a judge rejected that lawsuit claiming the organization had not done enough to prove the new law was unconstitutional.
Rocky Mountain Gun Owners issued a response to the ruling and said that they would not stop fighting. |

On Tuesday, an Ohio House committee passed a bill that would ban state and local enforcement of a wide range of federal gun control. Passage into law would represent a major step toward effectively ending federal acts that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms within the state.
... The Second Amendment Preservation Act would ban state and local law enforcement officers from enforcing, attempting to enforce, or participating in the enforcement of any federal acts, executive orders, administrative orders, rules, regulations, statutes, or ordinances regarding firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition that are not mirrored in state law. |

They had raised privacy issues over proposed rules changes that would require them to submit a pre- and post-class report as well as a roster of students. |

Fired by the dozens or hundreds in rapid succession, bullets from AR-15s have blasted through classroom doors and walls. They have shredded theater seats and splintered wooden church pews. They have mangled human bodies and, in a matter of seconds, shattered the lives of people attending a concert, shopping on a Saturday afternoon, going out with friends and family, working in their offices and worshiping at church and synagogue. They have killed first-graders, teenagers, mothers, fathers and grandparents. |

In todays market, fans of large-caliber pistols will eventually find themselves considering the 10mm vs .45 ACP, but which of these is really best for your needs? The .45 ACP has enjoyed a long tenure of being touted as Americas king of pistol cartridges, but is the newer 10mm Auto a better choice? That depends.
Like rifle shooters, pistol shooters can get pretty persnickety about the cartridges they prefer. Some of those preferences are based on experience and sound reasoning, others arent. You might encounter drill-sergeant-like blowhards at the local shooting rangeor internet forumwho say things like: |
