In the same vein, you can be a strong defender of the right to private gun ownership for self-defense and also agree that background checks are a good idea before a federally licensed firearm dealer sells a gun.
Ed.: No, you can't. Turning a right into a privilege is anti-gun. |

One would think that U.S. Senate Democrats might smarten up and back off their stance on gun control after Hillary Clintons devastating defeat in last weeks presidential election.
One would be wrong.
Any chance of the Democrats turning from their all-out push for more restrictive gun laws was dashed on Tuesday when they chose Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.one of the most anti-gun federal lawmakers in historyas Senate minority leader. Hell be replacing Harry Reid, D-Nev., who is retiring. |

Buying a gun is the easy part. Knowing when to fire it is much more complicated.
While most states do not require training for gun licensing or ownership, it is still a good idea. Importantly, that training should go beyond the safety aspects of handling a weapon and marksmanship.
The National Rifle Association, which provides firearms training for more than 1 million people each year, offers more advanced courses on personal protection in the home and personal protection outside the home. |

I doubt when James Madison wrote the Second Amendment, "A well regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed," he had any idea how much consternation the term "well regulated militia" would cause America. Once again, the boys on the Brazos opted for more clarity.
In the Texas constitution of 1836, a Bill of Rights provision was adopted that stated, "Every citizen shall have the right to bear arms in defence of himself and the republic." Simple and direct, and with no pesky reference to a "well regulated militia." Instead, "every citizen" was a beneficiary. |

One of Florida's most controversial laws may be linked to a significant increase in homicides.
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) led by the University of Oxford, found the "Stand Your Ground" law which allows people to use force, even deadly force in case of self-defense may have contributed to a 24 percent rise in monthly homicide from 2005 to 2014 and 31.6 percent increase in firearms-related homicide in the Sunshine State.

On the heels of our list of six great concealed carry pistols people might consider for their Christmas wish list, Breitbart News thought the time is right to point out five revolvers that are great for concealed carry as well.
Full disclosure I am a sucker for revolvers. I love the fact that they are ultra-dependable, and I like the nostalgic aspect of carrying a wheel gun for self-defense. Moreover, although many 21st century revolvers offer multiple caliber options, I like the tried and true .38 Special round and the forever formidable .357 Magnum. |

The city's mayor and council approved a revised firearms ordinance Tuesday night.
Under the new ordinance, residents may fire a weapon to defend themselves or their property. But all other firearm use in residential areas is prohibited, due to safety concerns. |

The research team looked at what happens when people want to temporarily remove firearms from their home because they fear someone in the house might be considering a suicide attempt. In some states, they found, gun control laws may actually hamper the ability to easily transfer a gun temporarily to reduce suicide risk.
What's needed, according to Jon S. Vernick of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in Baltimore and colleagues, are laws that allow for temporary storage of guns by federally licensed firearm dealers, law enforcement officers, family members and friends. |

Authorities in Douglas County say a man who shot and wounded his son apparently acted in self-defense and isn't expected to face charges.
Sheriff Chris Degase says charges are expected against the 34-year-old son for allegedly attacking his mother moments before the father shot him Sunday in a rural home.
The wounded son was taken to a hospital, though his medical status was not immediately clear Wednesday.
Degase says deputies had been called to the home several times before for domestic disturbances caused by the son. |

In the past, said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, the Department of Justice has taken action against various other civil and constitutional rights abuses. It is time for the DOJ to prosecute violations of the Second Amendment and federal laws including the Firearms Owners Protection Act, by state and local governments. State and local governments that adopt laws designed specifically to infringe on the rights of honest firearms owners or discourage people from exercising their right to keep and bear arms for legitimate reasons, including self-defense should be held accountable. |

I have been a registered lobbyist in Florida for over 40 years and I represent the views and interests of people who respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. More specifically, I represent people who want their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms protected.
I don't get paid with taxpayer dollars. Yet almost without exception when I testify to protect Second Amendment rights, those who testify against me and against protecting your rights are lobbyists who are paid with taxpayer dollars. In short, your tax dollars are being used to lobby against your constitutional rights and best interests.

Instead, the Court concluded that because of the way the Kansas Legislature wrote the state law, it did not apply to this case. Specifically, the Court held that the Kansas law, by its terms, applies only to federal statutes enacted under the authority of congress to regulate interstate commerce. But in this case, the federal prosecution was for violations of the National Firearms Act, which is part of the internal revenue code and was enacted pursuant to the power of Congress to levy taxes, not its power to regulate commerce.

Imagine being convicted of a crime that you were never arrested for, never charged with, never offered an attorney to defend yourself from, never went to court or appeared before a judge to answer fora crime you were never even notified that you were convicted of, until you tried to buy a gun and were told that your right to purchase, own or even touch any firearm had been revoked.
Thats exactly the Kafkaesque nightmare too many veterans are facing in America today. |

According to NJ.com, SCI also recommended lawmakers adopt an electronic tracking system similar to the one used to monitor prescription drug purchases so that digital records of ammunition purchases are readily available.
SCIs recommendations come after a review of New Jerseys requirement that ammunition purchasers show state-issued firearms identification to buy ammo. The ID does not contain a photo, so SCI is recommending the ID be changed to include a photo or that two forms of ID be required to purchase bullets.
SCI said that digitized firearm purchase records could be harvested into a database and reviewed to look for signs of trouble or to determine if one person was buying too many rounds of ammunition... |

The judicial nomination of a top deputy to Attorney General Maura Healey was narrowly approved Wednesday by the Governor's Council, over the objections of gun rights advocates opposed to Healey's crackdown on so-called copycat assault weapons.
The council voted 5-3 to confirm Assistant Attorney General Christopher Barry-Smith, who was nominated by Republican Gov. Charlie Baker to fill a vacancy on the Superior Court. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
To prohibit a citizen from wearing or carrying a war arm . . . is an unwarranted restriction upon the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of constitutional privilege. [Wilson v. State, 33 Ark. 557, at 560, 34 Am. Rep. 52, at 54 (1878)] |
