People Died in Red Bluff, California and There are No Easy Solutions

A man willing to murder also ignored other laws. We already have 23 thousand firearms regulations, and that didnt stop this murderer. Since stopping crazy criminals is hard and passing laws is easy, I expect California politicians to call for more laws to encumber honest and sane citizens. These new laws, and the media opportunities the generate for politicians, wont stop the next murder either.

The real problem is complex, and frankly, the problem is beyond the sound-byte politicians in Sacramento.

Best Pistol Caliber for Self-Defense Is the .45 ACP Outdated?

According to The Yankee Marshal, the .45 ACP is out of date. Well, actually, he says it sucks. Since Ive subscribed to his YouTube channel for a while now, his claim here doesn't surprise me. Hes generally amusing and often provocative, and even when I disagreeespecially when I disagreeI like seeing opposing views. His specific point in this video is that the old .45 limits magazine capacity and lacks enough hard-barrier penetration. At the same time, he says that we each have to make our own decisions on what we carry.

During trials, I'm often glad I'm able to watch from the gallery instead of the jury box. That was especially true during the homicide trial this week for Kevin A. Miller. Many people have asked me if the jury got it right when they found Miller not guilty of all charges, indicating he acted in self-defense.

So far, my answer has been, "I don't know, but I hope so."

It was a tough case because Miller never tried to say he didn't shoot David Frankhouser on June 4, 2016.

So what impact have these mass shootings, coming little more than a month apart, had on local guns shops here?

"It's just normal here," B and R Guns Owner Rich Stuntebeck said. "I don't see any difference at all, not like it was four or five years ago."

Stuntebeck said his son, Bryan, who works for a large distributor of guns and ammunition, has not seen an increase in his business either because of the frightening events in Texas and Nevada.

Nick Adamczyk of Gene's Sports Shop in Perham echoed Stuntebeck's comments about his gun sales. The third-generation businessman has not seen any spike in his sales.

Law abiding citizens can and do own guns. We acknowledge that there are some in our society that are NOT allowed to own guns under current law- for example those with criminal records, mental health issues, and/or a history of domestic violence. No one is seriously suggesting buy backs, bans on ownership or seizures, so lets just drop the straw man arguments in advance.

Secondly, hunting as an American past time, has been offered as the reasonbut not sure the founders would have thought hunting worth a Constitutional Amendment.

Only occasionally, does any one discuss the real reason the Founders and the American people of the time offered and adopted The second Amendment; the right to posses arms. Simply stated, it is a right created to sustain the Constitution, and maintain the primacy of the people and states over the federal government. It is intended to prevent a fascist government from stealing our republic from us. It is a right to remind the federal government who they work for!

The #1 Mistake Shooters Make When Training

However, if you choose to take one of these classes whether its local or at a larger training school such as Gunsite or Front Sight, I encourage you not to make the mistake that I see the majority of shooters make.

So what is the mistake?

Its not training the way they regularly carry concealed on the street. In other words, when Im carrying concealed Im usually wearing jeans and a T-shirt. Unless Im going to church or doing consulting, I try and avoid a suit at all costs. Therefore, when I go to a gun school I am dressed in jeans and a T-shirt.

A linguist at San Diego State University, Jeffrey Kaplan, argues that the prefatory clause is false. America, despite having no more militias, remains a free state, as do many other countries. He says that in parallel constructions like Today being St Patricks Day, I will buy drinks for everyone in the bar, if it turns out today is not in fact St Patricks Day, the promise in the main clause needs repair: a chance to cancel the offer or negotiate something else with the patrons. He put the St Patricks Day problem to 50 experimental subjects80% said that if the presupposition was false, the offer was no longer operative.

Hohenwarter and other gun rights supporters keyed in on a statement Rep. Marjorie Decker, a Cambridge Democrat, made at the hearing as she was testifying in support of various gun control measures and against bills she said would erode Massachusetts status as the state with the lowest rate of gun deaths.

It is a privilege that we allow individuals to hold onto something that causes harm and death, Decker said. It is a privilege to have a car license, it is a privilege to have a gun license.

A state lawmaker has pre-filed legislation to stop not only the use, but also the possession of bump stocks in Georgia.

Representative Mary Margaret Oliver, D-Decatur, filed House Bill 651 Wednesday so it can be taken up by the General Assembly when they convene in January.

"This is an opportunity for Georgia voters to engage in this discussion," explained Rep. Oliver. "Do they think that this device--cheap, easily implemented--should be lawful to turn an ordinary weapon into a lethal, rapid-fire, assault-type weapon?"

Given that wistful proposition, lets consider another improbable but perhaps viable response to Americas firearm scourge. What about a Second Amendment Reparations Tax, levied on all American households and corporations? If the Second Amendment is essential to American identity, and if additional firearm-related legislation is a long time coming (if ever), then why not create a communal fund to assist those families and institutions devastated by inevitable gun violence? Such a FEMA-administered reparations tax would commit all of us to the task of binding up the wounds created by firearm violence. If we cant affect the laws, the least we can do is help pay for the funerals.

Columbia, South Carolina mayor Steve Benjamin is once again attempting to violate the Second Amendment (and state law) by imposing new gun restrictions on the residents of the Palmetto States capital city.

Benjamin published a letter this week announcing his intention to do what our federal and state governments are either unable or unwilling to do. Specifically, hes referring to a proposed ordinance which would ban the use of bump stocks or trigger cranks within the city limits.

According to his letter, Benjamin was inspired to take action against these devices in the aftermath of last months mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada that left 58 people dead.

Picard is a Second Amendment advocate who also happens to detest random drunk driving checkpoints set up by police. On Sept. 11, 2015, Picard and a friend were standing on the side of Park Road in West Hartford near the I-84 on-ramp entrance. He was armed with a video camera. In his holster was a pistol for which he had a valid permit. He was also holding a sign that said Cops ahead. Keep calm and remain silent warning motorists of a sobriety checkpoint about 700 feet beyond that was set up by Connecticut State Police. As you can imagine, this was a source of great annoyance to the cops who were trying to nab drunk drivers.

Id love a compromise, where no one had (or felt they needed) handguns, and hunters and recreational shooters got to enjoy their registered and safely stored shotguns and old-fashioned repeating rifles. But the responsible owners are a dying breed. The future of the gun debate in the United States is a ruthless political fight between an anti-gun majority and a hysterical, well-armed revanchist minority. That minority will have one of our two major political parties, the Supreme Court and much of the judiciary, and a lot of arms industry money on its side.

Ed.: It isn't a 'compromise' when you get almost everything you want, and gun-owners get nothing.

Picketts sculptures are an attempt to lampoon and take some of the power out of guns which he fears. His aim is to inspire viewers to think about and discuss issues of gun violence. I think we need to reevaluate the gun laws in this country. Not everyone gets to have a drivers license, and not everyone should be able to own a gun, he said. People ask me why I make these sculptures if Im so afraid of guns, and I guess its because it is a way to face my fears. He grew up hearing gunshots every weekend in his neighborhood, and when he was eleven years old, his uncle tried to shoot him.

That group included Summers and Cashmiere Hill, 18, of Appleton.

Authorities state in court documents that McKeever came to Blacks resident to confront McKeevers estranged wife and added McKeever knew his wife was involved in an extramarital relationship with Black.

Authorities also state in court documents that McKeever banged on the door waking up Black. Black came to the door with a .44 Magnum pistol and confronted McKeever. McKeever struck Black in his right eye but did not have any other weapons.

Black told authorities that he fell backward and then the gun went off, striking McKeever. According to Eschenbachers report, the state cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the killing of McKeever was unjustified.

The Second Amendment is under siege now more than ever. Every day, we see more assaults made on our Constitutional rights to keep and bear arms.

Radical gun-grabbing organizations like Moms Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety, and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence are just a few of the national organizations that seek to take away law abiding citizens guns, and its not much better at the university level. Theres a Student Pledge Against Gun Violence and a campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus. In many cases, students cannot exercise their recognized rights just because they step foot on campus.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Nations and peoples who forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms. Robert Heinlein
