The gun battle followed a road rage clash that led both Soliz and Rios to exit the highway in 2020. Soliz testified that Rios swerved into his lane, nearly hitting him, and that he never identified himself as a police officer. Prosecutors and defense attorneys differed on who fired first.

The jury found Soliz not guilty Tuesday after deliberating for more than seven hours, the Houston Chronicle reported.

It seems that the list of gun-related topics President Joe Biden is not joking about continues to grow.

On numerous occasions, when making his ignorant assertion that, Deer dont wear Kevlar vests, the president has followed that with a terse, Im not joking. Now, apparently, hes not joking about banning popular semi-auto firearms legally owned and used by millions of lawful Americans.

By the way, I'm going to get an assault weapons ban, Biden told Jake Tapper during an Oct. 11 CNN interview. Before this is over, I'm going to get that again. Not a joke, and watch.

Hawaii County is the first in the state and one of the first municipalities in the nation to pass legislation regulating where licensed firearms can be carried with a valid permit.

After weeks of work and hours of discussion and testimony, the Hawaii County Council on Wednesday adopted Bill 220, detailing several sensitive places where carrying a licensed firearm, concealed or not, will be prohibited on the Big Island.

The bill now goes to Mayor Mitch Roth for his consideration.

IL: Pediatricians: Our children are at risk of dying from shootings. Pass an assault weapons ban now

We strongly support a common-sense ban on assault-style weapons and large-capacity magazines in Illinois. Why? Because bans of assault-style weapon work. When the federal government banned assault weapons from 1994 to 2004, there were fewer mass shooting fatalities.

According to the Rockefeller Institute of Government, mass shootings with assault-style weapons are more deadly than other shootings. Weapons of war have no place around children. They are designed to inflict severe and deadly wounds on multiple individuals in a short period. The destruction is multiplied when assault weapons are combined with large-capacity magazines.

In a bizarre case of self-defense, a home intruder was sent to the hospital after waking up the wrong person.

Just after 8 PM on Saturday, Poughkeepsie police received a call saying a man was shot inside an apartment on Main Street in the city. After racing to the scene, officers were met in the hallway before they were even able to reach the apartment by a man who greeted them with a weapon.

The unloaded handgun was laid out on a table by a 46-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident. Inside the apartment, police discovered another man suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. The injured 39-year-old was on the floor and police say it appeared the bullet entered the man's face and exited out of his neck.

Now that Republican leaders have fended-off the widely anticipated Red Wave, Left-leaning politicians who are keen on relieving Americans of their constitutional rights can pursue their previously unspoken agenda.

Gun control wasnt a big issue in the midterm elections, largely because most Americans dont like it. But now that the dust has settled, the American Left is free to seek more gun control.

A careful study of murders last year by a non-profit research institute called Just Facts concluded earlier this month that a U.S. citizen faces 1-in-179 odds of being murdered in his/her lifetime, rather than dying of other causes.

Just Facts President and co-founder James D. Agresti revealed in a lengthy report that the FBI murder data for 2021 is woefully incomplete, and the true numberbased on an examination of death certificate datais about 10,000 more slayings than the estimated 14,677 reported by NewsNation and other outlets, which is Based on a misunderstanding of new FBI data, Agresti wrote.

Oregon sheriffs are vowing not to enforce a strict gun control measure passed by the states voters last week.

At least five county sheriffs are openly refusing to not enforce at least parts of the law, according to Fox News. The officials say that the law oversteps Constitutional gun rights and will be an additional drain on law enforcement while failing to address problems with more serious crimes.

The biggest thing is this does absolutely nothing to address the problem, Sheriff Cody Bowen of Union County told Fox News. The problem that we have is not magazine capacity. Its not background checks. Its a problem with mental health awareness. Its a problem with behavior health illness.

The number of U.S. adult handgun owners carrying a loaded handgun on their person doubled from 2015 to 2019, according to new research led by the University of Washington.

Data come from the 2019 National Firearms Survey (NFS), an online survey of U.S. adults living in households with firearms, including nearly 2,400 handgun owners. Compared to estimates from prior UW-led research, the new study suggests that in 2019 approximately 16 million adult handgun owners had carried a loaded handgun on their person in the past month (up from 9 million in 2015) and 6 million carried every day (twice as many as carried daily in 2015).

Chatham County Superior Court Judge John E. Morse acquitted Charlie Sapp, 55, of multiple murder charges on Nov. 2 by way of a "directed verdict," determining there wasn't enough evidence in the case to support a conviction.

According to Savannah Police reports, Sapp was arrested around 6 p.m. on Oct. 8, 2021, after responding to a call about a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest at the 100 block of Coastal Place, the same street where, according to a bench warrant, Sapp resided.

New York will be able to continue enforcing its latest concealed carry restrictions because of a new order from a federal appeals court.

The Second Circuit Court of Appeals accepted New Yorks plea to add a stay to a federal judges ruling blocking much of its gun-carry law. The stay will remain in effect until a panel of Second Circuit judges hears the case. Residents will be subject to the states permit-application process and numerous gun-free zones while that process unfolds.

Non-violent felons may be barred from owning guns, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit held on Nov. 16 in the first major federal appellate court ruling applying the Supreme Courts new standard for reviewing Second Amendment cases.

The Supreme Court ruling gave rise to many new legal challenges to existing gun restrictions.

The 3rd Circuit ruling itself came in the context of a Pennsylvania man who challenged the ban after he was convicted of welfare fraud 27 years ago. At the time, he was ordered to pay a small fine and was not sentenced to prison time.

Former Union officers, who had led the costly battlefield effort to free 4 million Americans from bondage, chartered the National Rifle Association (NRA) in New York City on this day in history, Nov. 17, 1871.

Civil War veterans Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate created the organization after they were "dismayed by the lack of marksmanship shown by their troops," states the NRA in its online history.

The association was determined to "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis," Church wrote in a contemporary magazine editorial, the NRA reports.

Good Lord, do I love a good scattergun. Shotguns have held my interest ever since I was a little kid. We were a family who used shotguns for everything, from hunting to sport shooting and home defense. My first gun was a shotgun, and I still own that Remington 870 in .410 to this day. The shotgun world is a massive, undeniably huge genre of weapons. There are innumerable shapes, models, and styles. So how do you determine what the best shotguns are?

Well, you can begin with this primer.

Iowans voted to amend their state constitution to add an explicit right to bear arms, with language specifying that any laws restricting gun rights would be subject to strict scrutiny by the courts.

All but five states have such a Second Amendment analog in their state constitutions. Iowa is now the fourth state with similar strict scrutiny language in its constitution, following Alabama, Louisiana, and Missouri. The National Rifle Association has been advocating for similar measures across states for years.

He adds turning the magazines in at buy-backs is preferable to selling them to criminal organizations that may not be concerned with the criminal penalties for possessing high-capacity magazines.

Another man brought more than 100 $5 magazines and received $15 for each, noting that because of a loophole in the program, he could feasibly buy cheap magazines online and turn them in for twice or three times the value.

TX: Federal Judge: Disarming those under protective orders violates Second Amendment rights

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge David Counts handed down a decision that said a federal law banning a person from possessing a firearm while under a restraining order actually violates that person's 2nd Amendment rights.

The ruling comes five months after the Supreme Court struck down New Yorks concealed carry law, saying that there's no historical context for laws like that one.

Josh Blackman, with South Texas College of Law says this decision is a direct result of that.

The judge in Texas said that theres no historical tradition of taking guns away from people who are under protective orders because the idea of protective orders is fairly novel, Blackman said.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53
