"If Obama perceives his presidency is going to be a one-termer, or even if hes gambling that conditions will change enough to make the fallout to his next campaign worth the risk of a temporary appointment, whats the downside? After all, whats he going to domake conservative gun owners not want to vote for him?" ... |

"Open Carry demonstrations continue to draw criticism, both from people who abhor firearms and people who don't want people to abhor firearms. This time 'round the debate's in the great state of Indiana. 'Discussions online [at indianashooter.com] indicate some gun owners plan to openly carry rifles and handguns around Monument Circle on the day after Thanksgiving,' theindychannel.com reports. 'According to a flier that will be handed out by participants, the purpose of the walk is to, 'educate our fellow Hoosiers about our rights to lawfully keep and bear arms.' The 'Black Friday' event fits the usual non-strident, loosely organized template for open carry demos. But it's still got some (ostensibly?) pro-gun folks twitchy . . ." ... |

"When I lived in England, I would rail against the governments intrusion into its citizens private lives. During my time on the island, the U.K. became the most surveilled country on planet Earth. The natives werent restless. 'If you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear.' Its the same argument gun control groups use when they lobby in favor of gun registries. 'Legal owners have nothing to fear.' Yes, well, what about this, then?" ... |

"All that talk about complicated matters such as Social Security and deficits and tax brackets can get a little wonky in the midst of campaigns and the post-election season. So it's not that unusual for a candidate, a politician -- or a talk show host -- to hammer home a point with a touch of violent rhetoric."
"... We'll walk you through such a controversy that involves three political figures -- a Democratic president, a conservative South Florida talk show host, and a fiery talking newly elected Republican congressman -- and a slew of words that relate to violence (bullets, guns, knives). And we'll mix in a popular movie." ... |

"My politically astute friends say theres no such thing as a free market. All I know is that shopping in the Eastern block countries before the fall of the Wall was about as exciting as discussing free market economics with people who say theres no such thing as a free market economy. You want fun? Buy yourself an AR-style rifle. Just watch your wallet. Even in these post post-Obama days (or pre-post Obama days, depending on how you look at it), a grand day out with an AR can cost $300 in 5.56 ammo. Problem? Market solution! Manufacturers are building AR-style rifles that shoot .22 caliber (mostly LR) bullets. Like the ISSC MK22. Well, almost . . ." ... |

"The Truth About Guns has been investigating the Bushmaster ACR recall. As you know, a small number of examples were going fully auto. According to Bushmaster customer service, the rifles firing pin was the problem. 'It was too heavy for certain types of ammo where the primer stood proud,' the agent told us. 'We're putting in a lighter pin and a stronger spring at no charge to the customer. Our current turnaround is two weeks.' So, the question is this: why didnt Bushmaster test the ACR with all types of ammo before they sold the gun? The answer may be simple enough . . ." ... -------

"Quick recap: Ruger sent us an SR40. In my review, I revealed that the gun was sexy, reliable and comfortable, but the trigger felt completely different from the previously reviewed SR9c, and not in a good way. The go pedal was mushy, vague and stacky. I called Ruger for an explanation. They denied the problem, claiming that the SR40 used the exact same parts as the SR9c. They sent me another SR40. Same trigger trouble. Ruger blamed our cleaning process. I sent the second gun to our Gun Doctor. He discovered that the SR40 did NOT contain the same trigger parts as the SR9c. He then broke down the second SR40 and another SR40 (for reference) and examined both weapons in detail. He found a workbench full of not good . . ." ... |

... "Some people actually know the laws, but there is still some confusion on how they works. Every individual has rights. These rights come from all sorts of places."
"A common misconception is how they work. The problem is many people create their own interpretation of the right, and some people don't know when their rights end. First let's look at my favorite 'right' mistake, which is misinterpretation. The Second Amendment, amusingly enough, gets translated in all sorts of ways. The Second Amendment gives[sic] you the right to bear arms. This, no doubt, is kind of vague. Therefore a mutated spawn of translations were bound to come out of this amendment." ... |

Submitter's Note: And once again the Brady Bunch displays all the logic and clear thinking of their television namesakes. The suit is about the prohibition on 18 - 20 year olds purchasing pistols from FFLs. They can lawfully possess them, but must buy them from non-FFLs, and all the suit asks is that this ludicrous provision be stricken from the law. |

"These 'enhanced' penalties, because the criminal had a gun, punish the criminal not for the heinousness of his crime, or the amount of harm he inflicts on society, but for his exercise of a Constituionally guaranteed, fundamental human right. A predatory animal in human skin who commits rape while armed with nothing but size, strength, and ruthlessness that his victim cannot match is just as evil as one who commits the same atrocity while armed with a gun, and deserves to be punished just as harshly. A beast who strangles someone with her bikini top is no less evil than one who shoots his victim to death." ... |

"The National Rifle Association of America strongly opposes President Obama's nomination of Andrew Traver as director of the [ATF]. Traver has been deeply aligned with gun control advocates and anti-gun activities. This makes him the wrong choice to lead an enforcement agency that has almost exclusive oversight and control over the firearms industry, its retailers and consumers. Further, an important nomination such as BATFE director should not be made as a 'recess appointment,' in order to circumvent consent by the American people through their duly-elected U.S. Senators." ... |
