Thursdays murderous attack with a handgun by a disturbed 16-year-old student at a high school in Santa Clarita was terrible. As a father, I grieve, as all good gun owners and humans do, whenever madmen or violent criminals kill innocents. As I think about how much I love my young sons, I cannot begin to imagine the grief the families are experiencing. Its heartbreaking and terrifying. |

On Friday, the Supreme Court requested the Solicitor General to submit his views on the mootness of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. New York City, a Second Amendment challenge pending before the Supreme Court that the city of New York has been desperately trying to wriggle its way out of since certiorari was granted. The Citys principal argument is that, because they changed the subject law, there is no case to hear. (Despite, of course, several doctrines preventing exactly this type of abuse from standing.)

We hear a lot these days about how new gun-control laws will supposedly stop firearms from getting into the wrong hands. There are so many hazy ideas afloat in the political spectrum being presented as solutions to the problem of criminals getting guns. Weve heard many suggestions about how the federal government and new regulations will make a dent in stopping bad guys from getting and using firearms; the many proposals weve heard include possible new gun laws that do nothing but complicate matters for responsible law-abiding gun owners, and even about mythical solutions like smart guns (thanks, Biden). |

The 35-year history of Steel Challenge is marked by significant milestones and the great shooters who achieved them, shooters like Max Michel, who was the first competitor in Steel Challenge history to break the 80-second barrier with a centerfire pistol in 2007. Ten years later, B.J. Norris would become the first one to shoot below 80 seconds with an iron-sighted gun. Prior to 2007, it was thought that the 80-second barrier couldnt be broken, then it was thought the 80-second barrier couldnt be broken with an iron-sighted gun. Yet, through stories of incredible perseverance, single-minded dedication, and a whole bunch of spent brass, these seemingly insurmountable hurdles eventually were surpassedand history was made.

For hunters in years past, smart phones offered a way to pass time while waiting in the deer stand. But nowadays, hunters use their phones for a variety of reasons. Thousands of hunters hit the woods this weekend for the opening of rifle season. "Certain times it sounds like a war zone, you know. Just shots all over the place," Jeff Donohue said.

The station cited sources as saying Woolery offered $40 to an undercover officer posing as a prostitute.
Submitter's note: $40. She must have been one ugly prostitute. |

Colt released the .38 Super Automatic cartridge in 1929, as a hotter and heavier load than the .38 Automatic Colt Pistol (ACP) that it was modeled after. The .38 Super is in a twin case to its parent and designed for Colts semi-automatic, magazine-fed pistol in a 1911 style.
The ammo features a bullet of the same size and weight, a .356-inch lead projectile with a standard weight of 130 grain (gr), loaded into a semi-rimmed (and sometimes rimless), straight-walled case that measures .900 inch. When fit with the bullet, the round comes in with a total length of 1.280 inches. |

In a case that could either uphold a federal law prohibiting legal actions against firearms manufacturers or potentially knock it cockeyed, the U.S. Supreme Court has cleared the way for families of several victims in the Sandy Hook school massacre to sue Remington Arms and Bushmaster.
CBS News and other news agencies were quick to report the high courts decision to not hear the case, which allows the lawsuit to move forward in Connecticut state court.

The National Rifle Association 's embattled top executive earned about $2 million last year at a time when the gun rights lobby is beating back challenges from regulators, longtime members and gun control groups, according to tax filings cited in media reports. The tax filings come as the NRA faces investigations in New York and Washington, D.C., that threaten its nonprofit status. Nonprofits file tax documents every year, and they are a year behind, capturing the NRA's finances for 2018 the year before internal strife spilled into public view. |

Anti-gun-rights politicians in Washington State have a new weapon in their effort to discourage gun ownership: a gun and ammunition tax that financially penalizes law-abiding gun owners for crimes they did not commit, while apparently appealing to a growing segment of the state population who are transplants from somewhere else.
Evergreen State rights activists are calling it a Second Amendment tax or tyranny tax, and it could have national implications, since the idea of taxing guns and ammunition sales originated in Cook County, Ill.

One of the tropes that we like to repeat about ourselves as gun owners and concealed carriers is that were law-abiding, that were the most law-abiding folks around. Law-abiding, safe and responsible. Now, for the most part, its actually true. People who legally own and carry firearms tend to not be criminals, because thats who were concerned with when we buy one anyway.

Its deer-hunting season in the Midwest, but there is no evidence that the increased use of rifles causes more violent crimes, says a Ball State University researcher. Paul Niekamp, a Ball State economics professor, has analyzed daily crime data with statistics from deer hunting seasons spanning 20 years and 21 states for his study, Good Bang for the Buck: Effects of Rural Gun Use on Crime. |

It's the first weekend of New Hampshire's deer hunting season for those using regular firearms, and officials are reminding participants of some of the rules. The season started Wednesday and runs through Dec. 1 in northernmost New Hampshire, and through Dec. 8 in the rest of the state. The state Fish and Game Department is reminding hunters to avoid urine-based lures, which can potentially spread fatal Chronic Wasting Disease to deer and moose. |
